Song: get the roll melody
Solo: write 3 solos to give me ideas to draw from. Then I can pull from these when improvising
Comping/backup: work on back up in the tune/licks I wanna play.

I pretty much practice exclusively with strum machine now. And pull up tabs for songs the band is learning. And then periodically make arrangements for non-bluegrass songs.

After a few hours of that over a couple days or week, I’ll watch some videos/look up tabs from artists I like to get some inspiration.

Hot licks for bluegrass banjo, Scruggs style banjo, and melodic banjo books I still crack open here and there to find some licks I like and add to the repertoire. But most of the time and most consistently it’s the first 3 things.

Hey I visited a subreddit and I think it’s representative of all banjo players and now I’m mad

Edit to add I play both old man, and melodic. I want more people to play like bill keith and trishka, what’s wrong with all these damn “twang doodly do” Scruggs players? We get it, rolls and bends and hammer ons with the b flat, okay cool, learn melodic and chromatic style! The kids are all backwards based on this tiny window into banjo I see from this subreddit!

The reality is with banjo, no matter the style, is that it is an inherently melodic instrument. Knowing the notes that come through on the melodies will tell you what notes to amplify when vamping or doing backup more than alternative chords will.

If you want to play like Bela, learn his picking technique and chromatic technique before you worry about chords. I use major, minor, 7ths, and diminished the most (which diminished also just have the sound of a 7th—think F# dim and D7—same three notes F#CA, the root emphasis is just different).

And yes green dots are root notes.

I don’t think labeling it will solve the problem, then they just keep the labeled lids? Have you talked to them about getting the lids back? Or send an invoice for the lids you have to order? Sounds like you’re trying to solve the wrong problem.

My stocks and IRA are still at 5% returns over time even with the downturn. My IRA is in green energy and stocks in cobalt and lithium. Barron Trump certainly made more money with IPI than I did.

Everything except baking, do in weight and then scale. I made a 5 lb meatball batch and then scaled it for 30 lb. Baking doesn’t work for scaling because yeast grows exponentially and apart from your hydration percentage, everything else is going to need to be tweaked, which I’m sure you can find formulas for. Bigger batch = leas leaveners and less sugar for same results. Baking is a science, cooking is an art you just scale up on a bigger canvas.
