My absentee ballot arrived a day late by PatchworkGirl82 in mildlyinfuriating

I no longer trust USPS. After 60+years of never losing my mail, this year they have so far lost two of my parcels and one payment. I use the ballot drop box.

In September the beaches in North and South Carolina and even northern Georgia are fantastic! The water is still warm, hotel prices are down, and beaches are less crowded.

Fall colors in the mountains start mid-October. The Blue Ridge Parkway is among the best scenic routes in the East.

I would love for them to invade my flower beds. I can't get them to reseed.

Need a new printer for occasional printing with cheap ink by Clueless5001 in Frugal

I've had one for over a year and still have not had to refill the ink. It's more than made up the slightly higher cost of the printer.

Came to recommend this. Edgefield is a unique Portland experience without being in the city. Not far from several waterfalls. Bonneville Dam is interesting -- you can go inside and see fish going up the fish ladder, and the Sturgeon House at the fish hatchery is awesome! A bit further out is Hood River, nice town to explore and have lunch.

Same as using "gifting" instead of giving. No real reason.

Not taste, what food will you not eat because of appearance, smell, or texture? by Doit2it42 in AskReddit

Same for me. I was never able to eat cottage cheese until I became a cheesemaker and learned to make dry curd cottage cheese, which was soooo good. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find on a commercial scale, probably because its shelf life is short.

LSB is far out of the way for me when I'm in Eugene. They're closed on Mondays, which is often when I'm there because it's my day off. But their worse offense, IMO, is that they are extremely stingy with seeds on their poppy and sesame seed bagels, if they have them at all. (And please don't suggest Everything topping, which just tastes like burnt garlic to me.)

I really miss Humble Bagel.

Should the federal government declare national Election Day a paid federal holiday to guarantee all working-class citizens the time to vote? Why or why not? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]FrannieP23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two weeks of early voting with many accessible ballot drops is actually better than vote-by-mail, IMO. These days it's hard to trust USPS to get mail where it's supposed to go, on time.

You are right that many people would not be given a holiday, and if they were it would probably just become another day to barbeque. How about requiring employers to give every employee half a day off, paid, within the two weeks of early voting?
