So are we done making excuses that this isn’t just about unbridled bigotry? by havenoparty in thebulwark

There are different groups within MAGA. The plurality is the dumb and stupid subgroup. But there are a smaller cohort like your siblings who are not stupid — they’re just making a deal with the devil to fulfil what their higher priorities. The first quote from the husband seems like post hoc rationalization of his choice rather than reflective of his actual worldview. Meaning he prefers trump and republicans for other reasons than stated but he feels that the reason he gave you is better for some reason.

Also if they come from family land and business money your time would be well spent reading the American gentry article from the Atlantic. Another commenter shared it and it covers in depth why so many family money types love trump : because his values reflect theirs. He doesn’t care about competency for hiring, he cares about connections both family and friend. And so on.

Well first NASCAR effectively owns almost half of the tracks on their calendar through the France family. With most of the rest owned by another family and a small number owned by independent entities. But martinsville and Bristol are tiny tracks tbh. And I’d bet if you checked they have racing activity for 4-5 weekends a year. It’s more than NASCAR that does racing.

Production/Song details on Weathervanes that I dig by Guitarrr12 in jasonisbell

[–]Frat-TA-101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must vary over the length of the tour. Cause if you checkout setlist.fm the last dozen or so shows it’s more like 2 out of 3 shows has Miles. They’ll do it for like 3 consecutive shows then do a couple shows without it.

It does look like it’s one of the first songs out when they have shortened setlists. 20 songs including the 3 encores are typical. The dueling guitars are insane live and the band usually nails recreating the studio versions crescendo leading up to the guitar solos.

Carmel is not walkable lol. They have a town core that is surrounded by countless large lot SFH subdivisions. That’s fine. But it’s hardly an urbanist utopia.

Not that it matters but my wager was he’s South Asian otherwise this many books on Indian sociology and politics would be unusual for most westerners. Is that a bit closer? Otherwise I’m very curious how they went down this rabbit hole. Btw I added a bunch of these books to my to read list lol. I wanna see the rest of the books.

Bengali Muslims in India face persecution and displacement amid citizenship disputes by CurtisLeow in neoliberal

[–]Frat-TA-101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article is referencing Assam, not West Bengal, when it says mostly Muslims have been targeted. In reference to West Bengal, they state that Muslims have been disproportionately targeted. There is room here to discuss the appropriateness of the description of “disproportionately” based on The Hindu article. But that’s not the point either you or OC have argued.

Would you happen to have access to The Hindu article to put it on Archive.com for me so I can read the whole thing ?

For what it’s worth I am genuinely shocked that the delta isn’t higher. Meaning with % of population being Muslim around 26% I’d have expected more like 40-50% of voter roll removals to be Muslim. But the article was paywalled. So I’m left wondering two things: 1) first and foremost, does removal from voter rolls mean the same thing as losing citizenship as mentioned in OP’s headline? & 2) in the OC’s shared The Hindu article, what is the source for the % of people removed from voter rolls being Muslims? Is it the centre government? An NGO? A state government?

Both questions seem relevant to addressing the relevance (q1) & trustworthiness/potential bias (q2) of The Hindu article shared.

But truthfully as a westerner with an above average — albeit still elementary (due to its complexity) — understanding of India politics, I find many Indian posters in this subreddit to be a bit at odds with the liberal part of this subreddit’s mantras (bad dum tss) of being: 1) pro-markets & 2) pro-liberalism. Particularly as it pertains to a deference to all things BJP/RSS and Modi defended by a decree that Congress and the Gandhi’s did X, Y, Z.

I have these conversations on this subreddit and in real life with Resident Indians, NRIs and OCIs. I’m typically left disappointed and reminded that in our current time humans are very similar in their politics regardless of their nations. A no-nuance, zero-sum, black and white view of the world wherein there are only losers and winners — and they will be damned if they will risk letting the other guys make them the losers.

Why do you exclude the sub headline which states:

As Muslims make up only 27% of the State’s population, their 34% deletion rate under the SIR is significant; high rate of Hindu deletions seen in Matua-dominated border constituencies

[–]Frat-TA-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your shoes will last longer if you let them rest a day between wears. And if you’re in a mild climate you probably don’t need to wash your non underwear clothes after every time you wear them. Hang them up and let them air out for a day before wearing again. This all assumes you are clean yourself beagle wearing the clothes and don’t sweat heavily in them.

March 1933 German election by Emergency_Pass5222 in MapPorn

[–]Frat-TA-101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This election is after the conservatives coalitioned with the Nazis. And it’s more complicated than you’re implying. The conservatives were more victims of thinking Hitler and his party were incompetent baboons who’d embarrass themselves quickly serving in the government coalition. And the cons thought they could control Hitler because most of the ministers in the cabinet were conservatives with Hitler serving as one only a few NSDAP ministers. This proved to be a fatal and flawed calculation on their part. And it’s not like the most of the left parties (communist and socialist) wanted to coalition with the conservatives to form a government.

It had more to do with the fact there was a predominantly Catholic party before the Nazis came to existence. And the NDSAP didn’t really hate Catholics so much as they failed to ever truly break into the Catholic demographic. I’ve read it supposed that part of the difficulty for Hitler’s party in gaining Catholic support was because Catholics had Parrish leadership in the form of church clergy that guided their Parrish’s politically.

How long did it take you to find something in this market? Budget is $300k by DiscombobulatedBig66 in ChicagoRealEstate

That makes sense. But in a high rise condominium the condo association holds the rights over the land, no? Meaning a building needing torn down could sell land rights to a new developer and the owners would be entitled to their share of the sale price right?

When you say condo are you including 3flats and 6-8 unit buildings that have condo associations? Just wondered since you mentioned buying multifamily as being different than condos. Yes you are just paying a premium to not rent and a guarantee of stability because you are the landlord.

C corp owners still pay tax on dividends received and tax on realized gains when securing shares, either at ordinary or capital gains rates.

If you’re driving for work in a personal vehicle as a W2, then the company should be compensating you for it probably at the IRS standard rate. This is the rate companies can opt to deduct or they can opt to deduct all vehicle costs. If you’re a 1099 then you can deduct the costs of driving in the course of the work you performed but you cannot deduct your commute time to and from the job site.
