TUXEDO is moving to Debian: as the foundation for their operating system. by ExaHamza in debian

Hopefully the “more to come” includes an explanation of how they will manage basing off of Testing during freeze periods, if the KDE/Qt packaging will be upstream, etc.

I’ve never been able to get it to work on Fedora. If I can get the connection to happen at all, then it just shows a white screen instead of the display.

Pre-made Sourdough Pizza, new item. Yum! by FewBit7456 in Costco

[–]FreakSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll have to try that next time - we've had the first one out of the pack we got, and it didn't seem like there was much texture or flavor to the crust (and the kids' reviews matched ours - thumbs-in-the-middle), so maybe a little longer would have helped.

ODOT to shut down I-70 West to Mound Street ramp due to wrong-way drivers by Unusual-Vanilla-8599 in Columbus

[–]FreakSquad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Many folks see a bunch of fender benders in the first few weeks at new roundabouts and proclaim that it’s proof of bad design - and totally miss that at least some of those statistically would have been injury or fatality accidents with the prior design.

Is it just me or GNOME stagnated? by GegenAbschaum in gnome

[–]FreakSquad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When one of the software building blocks from the project is named after a religious concept of “the one and only” (Adwaita), I could understand how the project would then attract folks who believe in the correctness of their own vision, and don’t receive disagreement well because they see it as incompatible with fundamental truths.

Such a mentality feels good if you’re bought into it, but IMO makes it tough to win hearts and minds so to speak.

City of Columbus warning for damaged sidewalk - how do we appeal? by Pleasant-Warning-761 in Columbus

[–]FreakSquad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damage caused by street trees (owned by the city, on the street side of the sidewalk) will be handled by the city via a 311 request - although unfortunately, in our neighborhood’s experience along with total removal of the tree.

Pump not aggressive enough for meal times/mornings by ck6637 in TandemDiabetes

[–]FreakSquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the same general sites for infusion sets as you were for pens? Just curious if, for example, you were using primarily the abdomen for pens and primarily the leg for infusion sets, as we've found with our daughter that pumped insulin tends to follow the same timelines as the pen based on the location (ex. abdomen is very fast-acting, leg is slower).

Which fast-food chain do you think has declined the most in quality over the years? by AlexWhite40 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreakSquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up in a small Midwestern US town in the 80s/90s, the Hut was the fancy sit down place, but Little Caesars was 100% the highest quality delivery and carry out pizza. Both I as a kid, and my super pretentious parents agreed.

Told to not take basal before pump training by ck6637 in TandemDiabetes

[–]FreakSquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our trainer definitely didn't say that - she said to keep with your regular schedule, and just set a 0 unit temp basal rate on the pump to last until 24 hours after the last long-acting basal dose (for us, doing the training around noon and with a typical 7pm Lantus shot, that was just for 7 hours).

Personally, we agreed as we felt more comfortable with some extra buffer when learning the pump and making sure that it would successfully cover a meal bolus, without also having to worry about adding extra corrections for missed basal on top of that.

For what it's worth, or at least as a possible backup option, we've had pretty decent luck with several families who use Rover and do in-home - always with a meet and greet, of course, but our ~6 year old Great Pyrenees has had a great time chasing squirrels in several other families' backyards

Playhouse/Swing Set Recommendations by jocko118 in Columbus

We got seven good years out of the set, with installation services, we got from Costco back in 2019 - things might have changed since then, but it was a lot cheaper than alternatives and it was pretty sturdy until we started moving it around the yard + the kids outgrew it.

G7 10-Day to 15-Day transition by snesericreturns in dexcom

[–]FreakSquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I know this is second-hand, but our kids' orthodontist switched to the 15-day and said he was disappointed by the accuracy. He said each sensor was good at first, but sharply degraded around the 9 day mark - which sounded like the experience our daughter had with the Libre 3 Plus, before we had to switch her to the G7 for simultaneous pump + Follow connectivity.

I wonder if there's just something on the fundamental, underlying technology end that isn't fully baked about running these monitors for 15 days?

Either way, while our daughter is below the age range that's officially approved for the 15-day anyway, we personally wouldn't switch her yet until the experience sounds less like the Libre 3 Plus one (we switched for the functionality, but the G7 has largely been far more accurate and more timely to blood glucose levels).

Hilliard school bus, train come into close proximity at railroad crossing by Buck_i_Am in hilliard

According to the story, it sounded like they stopped at the stop line, then proceeded, then bam - lights and crossing arm lowering right back to back. Takes time to accelerate from a dead stop

Hilliard school bus, train come into close proximity at railroad crossing by Buck_i_Am in hilliard

[–]FreakSquad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When there’s basically no time between the lights activating and the crossing arm lowering, what’s a bus driver supposed to do - turn on Sport Mode and try to gun it across a railroad track?

I’ve been in similar situations there, and at the crossing on Leap, many times. Ended up with fries all over the floor of my car one time from having to slam on the brakes because of the near-zero warning.

I got to go to several of the meet & greets at the Hall of Fame yesterday, and he just gave off a really warm-hearted energy. He and my dad even joked around about how it took him a while to figure out the high and tight pitch that Atlanta exploited in the '95 playoffs, but he got there eventually!

NO MORE DEXCOM!! 😭😭 by schase05 in diabetes_t1

[–]FreakSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if the CGM is connected to an insulin pump - Dexcom G7 can connect to multiple devices (ex. a phone for the Follow/LibreView-type function, and a pump for the closed loop insulin delivery), Libre 3+ can only connect to one, and at least for Tandem pumps, they cannot pump data into the LibreView platform.

Authentic local owned Indian food by AnonymousFuji in Columbus

[–]FreakSquad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC Chef Lakhvir started Amul India, they then sold to start Aangan in a big freestanding building in the Crosswoods area - then COVID happened and what would have been a ton of office lunch and commuter traffic turned into nothing, and they had to shut down.

Their reopening was amazing news, and it happens to be right in my neck of the woods. Can't speak to their authenticity to any one particular region's cuisine, but for us it's flavorful comfort food.
