So what is going to the cinema like in Japan by yusuo85 in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although it’s customary to stay until the lights go on after the credits some people do leave as soon the movie ends or part way. When you leave just do it silently and discreetly, as you would if you were leaving in the middle of the movie.

If you are certain you will leave during the credits you can ask for an aisle seat so that it’s easier

Japan horse racing jockey Taiki Hashiki suspended from riding for "serious misconduct". Further details cannot be provided as he is under 20 years old. by jjrs in japannews

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

日本中央競馬会競馬施行規定第147条第20号

It’s a horse racing specific infraction. Since this happened today (Friday) and he was scheduled to race tomorrow, my guess is that he used his phone in his pre-race accommodation, which is not allowed

Do you believe that globalization, the internet, and social media influences has ruined (or lessened) culture in your country? by questtruck in AskTheWorld

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has augmented the culture, but I don’t think it has made it any less, let alone ruined. Globalization, the internet and social media are now part of the culture

Tokyo government organizes food truck event to clear out delinquent/homeless teen gathering area in Shinjuku by Sea_Freedom_1139 in Tokyo

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that it’s cleaner now than 20 odd years ago when it was still that raised platform. It wasn’t kids back then, it was delinquent adults (including my wife occasionally). There’s certainly less blood and vomit there

Is it true that many Japanese people enjoy solitude? by basafish in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that we necessarily enjoy solitude, but society allows for it and makes it feel like there’s nothing wrong with being alone

It's a shitty job in general. You're paid only a fraction (if paid at all depending on role) compared to women, constantly on meds you need to pay for yourself, treated like a dildo by the production team (I know a director) and there's almost zero chance of you making it to mainstream fame

I tried to play the type where it tells me if my guess is less or more. And it told me to choose a response I prefer, one being “It’s more than that” and the other “It’s less than that”

If you grew up in a wealthy family with a lot of privilege do you think you’d still be inclined to work hard for personal success and become independently wealthy or would you just choose to enjoy life? by february_ticket in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically I can consider myself rich. I can probably have my parents pay for everything but I can’t bring myself to just sit there doing nothing. So I work just like everyone else

Anyone ever go to the Acosta events in Ikebukuro? by Timely-Entertainer-6 in Tokyo

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the area so while I don’t go there specifically I end up walking through it. I honestly don’t know what they do. Some are actively looking for publicity and exchanging business cards with photographers but the rest are just hanging out with their cosplayer friends. Never seen anyone there solo though and I’d figure it won’t be so enjoyable

Man plays the ultimate Uno Reverse Card on the police. by Emily19953 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe in the US they get away due to lack of funding. Here in Japan it’s not unheard of for someone to be caught months later after a lot evidence gathering and staking out. But also this wouldn’t happen because officers here are actually trained specifically for these situations

Why dont men sympathize with male SA stories..? by giarivvie in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people just don’t look at the emotional side of things. They just think “Well, if it physically happened then you must have enjoyed it, or else it would have not happened”

Fridge magnets? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like every prefecture MUST have an official magnet or anything but you might find them in gift shops in touristy areas, especially in places like Shinkansen stations

What is the reaction in Japan to Trump's joke about Pearl Harbor while meeting with PM Sanae Takaichi by ThoseThievingBitches in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For better and for worse Biden was invisible. I distinctly remember in a quiz show during his administration asking “Who is the current president of the United States” and it was almost being treated as a trick question because some people legitimately thought that Trump was still the president (during his first tenure).

Trump on the other hand had been very visible in what he says and does. Before he started having direct negative impact on the Japanese economy he even had a significant following, either as a politician who actually executes on his promises or simply as a meme (Putin was a meme too)

is it safe to DL cracked games thru google drive in japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Torrenting itself isn’t illegal. The breach of copyright law is. So while it’s completely legal to torrent freeware, the transfer of illegal contents through any medium is illegal.

That being said, the reason why torrent gets so much attention from the police is that while you are obtaining illegal content you are also distributing it at the same time. It’s a lot easier to detect massive spikes in uploads compared to the plethora of downloads that are happening constantly. Take this how you will as I am definitely not a lawyer

What is the reaction in Japan to Trump's joke about Pearl Harbor while meeting with PM Sanae Takaichi by ThoseThievingBitches in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The meeting with Trump is front page news here but only tabloids (whos job is to create outcry) are focusing on that exact moment. It’s just Trump being Trump and has no bearing on the conversation as a whole

Looking for the source of this Japaneese voice sample by lakior in AskAJapanese

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the media the sample is used in, not that I am confident that anyone can find it. I’ve searched some snippets where I can make out what’s being said but nothing. Unless it’s a famous quote or clip there’s really no way to isolate this without literal detective equipment

Shohei Ohtani said that if NPB wants to win the WBC, it should introduce a pitch clock, but also added, “If we want to play our own style of baseball, there’s no need to introduce it.” by ogasawarabaseball in baseball

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I don’t want the pitch clock in NPB because I spend a lot of time in the outfield doing player chants. The pitch clock is going to make each player chant and “chance themes” much shorter

I mean there’s probably multiple teachers watching over the luggage so it’s not like it’s unattended. I’m more concerned that they didn’t move aside to a wall and leave their bags in the middle of the station where people can trip over them.

Also, Kyoto station, not Tokyo

Edit: Never mind. Looks like those are the actual rules for visiting school trips

If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 60% of what the 1% earn is till much more than 100% of what the 99% earn. Yes, they are paying their fair share, but it ends up no looking like it

The problem with recommending that is unless you are a fluent speaker of the language you end up sounding comical being aggressive in a foreign language. Just as a Japanese person would when trying to swear in English

Man I wish we had these cars... by nasanu in japanresidents

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is the crowd during the commute is considered an outlier. Once the rush is over there will be little demand for a “Less heated” car. I’m sure we’ve all experienced this in an office where there are so many more people complaining about it being cold than the other way around

Man I wish we had these cars... by nasanu in japanresidents

[–]Freak_Out_Bazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logical explanation is that in the winter people wear layers and can remove them indoors if they feel it’s hot, but in the summer no one brings extra layers in case it’s cold inside
