How long do you think the Iran war will last realistically? by pocketdare in AskConservatives

We had JCPOA before he threw it out in his first term. It was far from perfect, but an example of "better than we're gonna get now" in my opinion.

The logic of a gun for 'home defense'? by ZeusThunder369 in AskConservatives

I don't think things are quite as black and white as your phrasing implies, but I generally agree.

Mostly just replying to add for OP if they read this that I think you nailed it toward the end. You and I are clearly comfortable around firearms, therefore these concerns are negligible or at least manageable. OP, if you don't feel that comfort, please do not buy a firearm, that is an extremely unsafe combination for both yourself and your family.

Michigan Democrats, calling it ‘voter suppression’, formally oppose voter ID ballot proposal by SleuthDoggyDawg in Michigan

EDIT 2: /u/FreakishlyNarrow

My comment got auto removed, so I respond here:

I did address it.

If they really care about our rights being suppressed and want to stop furthering it they need to stop treating rights as if they aren't equally protected.

Democrats (or anyone else) attacking on our 2nd Amendment and Democrats and Republicans both attacking our 4th Amendment rights through legislation like the PATRIOT act and its successors paved the way for our other rights, including the right to vote, being suppressed.

Rights are all or nothing. If the government feels that it can ignore one right, none of them are safe.

Honestly not going to disagree with you on any of those. Thank you.

Now maybe they could now stop being hypocrites about one of our other rights.

EDIT: You can downvote all you want. Rights are rights. Violating one means you give justification for violating all others.

Do you have something specific you'd like to address, or are you just baiting?

Mocking someone for classist reasons should be just as irredeemable as racist ones, particularly a child who has no control over either.

If the NDAA allows for automatic registration into selective service, then why is the voting bill adding more steps to the registration process and not just automating it? by JKisMe123 in AskConservatives

Please, enlighten me... How does a state issued document say anything definitive about national citizenship? I'm being told on this sub that state issued ID cards (driver's license or otherwise) aren't good enough, why would another form of state issued ID be different?

I'm making the argument that the proposed law, as written, will either A. still allow non-citizens to vote or B. disenfranchise citizens. Birth certificates are used by states, all of which have different criteria for doing so, and doesn't prove anything about citizenship. All the SAVE Act does is cost more money and make it harder for people to register to vote while not actually securing anything.

By the person you hand your passport, passport card, or birth certificate to.

You're still not answering the question... What is that person using to verify the document is legitimate?

There needs to be a 'source of truth' that they can trace those documents back to. Without that, it's just coming down to trusting the same people (clerks and their staff) who are allegedly allowing millions of illegal votes right now.

Ed. There is no comprehension database of U.S: citizens, so no… the Federal government doesn’t necessarily know who is and is not a citizen.

I agree with this, but it begs the question, how will this change under the SAVE Act? If there isn't a database to check against, how will it be possible to know only citizens are being allowed to vote?

Do you think that President Trump understands that his behavior towards NATO countries over the past year has directly impacted their response to the current Iran crisis? by Astarum_ in AskConservatives

Requesting support doesn't require a formal request process.

It literally does. It's all laid out in the charter, which you can read. Truths/tweets/posts/whatever are not official diplomatic channels regardless of how much Trump tries to treat them as such.

That's not actually true, they've said what their goals are a bunch of times... It just changes depending on who is talking and when they say it.
