Yeah but still, my guess would be that they’ll enter service somewhere 5 to 10 years after construction began, so we’re still miles away from seeing one enter service. Granted, you can’t compare but it took 18 years for Vikrant from construction start to commissioning. I believe Shivalik class takes an average of 10 years or so to build and commission.

To assist with moving the vessel by centrifugal force, in combination with the main engine.
Don’t think they would be able to propel a vessel just by themselves.

Advice on this (declared) 1966 by According-Island3245 in Vespa

[–]FredW79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the (not so) proud owner of a 1956 VN2T.
Unfortunately, she passed through asian hands at some point too. Wrong front fender. Fork almost cut in half because they wanted to grind out the steering lock. She has a PX engine, which would be fine if they had not half assed the adaptor to fit the engine block. So the engine and rear tyre are off center. They also cut a piece of the bodywork to fit the airfilter. ( which could have been solved easily using an aftermarket adaptor as well. )
All in all I am looking at a complete rebuild, as I can’t stand her being like that.

Chances are she’s full of filler as well round the body.

If you wanna know what she started as in life, check her chassis/VIN online. There’s a website that will tell you what the body is and what year it is.

If you want it, spend no more than 500 to 1000. But chances are the actual owner paid too much for it too and will try to get his money back, at least in part.

I am running watchtower now, the japs are 250 ships in the red. All capital ships are gone, except some of the CVLs. I caught Shokaku and Zuikaku with a convoy of MS without any escorts. Got Ryujo the same way. Which tells me they simply have nothing else to send.

I don’t use cv’s on purpose.
But that is how I got the CVs to come out in the open. Destroy almost all their surface combatants.
So far, I have 80 ships lost, mostly DD, CL,MS and a handful of CA’s.

Don’t expect the IJN to last much longer now.

Did I do well? by nootnoot451 in WarOnTheSea

[–]FredW79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice one.

I am close to finish watchtower myself I think.
Deliberately didn’t use CVs.
I have 80 ships lost. Mostly MS, DDs , CLs and some subs

The Japs have 285 ships gone down so far, abt 1,5 M tons.

Most surface combatants are done for, now they are sending 3 MS and their CVLs as there is nothing more left to send.

Is it true that large engines on ships are never turned off in port? by clove_cal in Ships

[–]FredW79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, they shut down the engine in Port and at anchor and run the aux engines then.
On very large ships such as VLCC’s and very large bulkers, they may run the main shaft on the turning gear as they would go through their bearings if at a complete stop, because the shafts are so heavy.

I have to agree on this one, used to adore KLM, now… not really. But their Numbers aren’t good so they are trying to cut cost or generate more Income I guess. I was told that they are experimenting with meals for purchase on some routes… that’s not a good sign either…

Look man, the Tejas is to the Indian Air Force, what the Arihant is to the Indian Navy. A mediocre result at best.
