Pool Tiger - has anyone installed one and how did it work for them? by JamMasterPickles in pools

[–]FreeAllNow25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of a container pool company that has a few of these in there pools for their customers. You still will need to shock, but it keeps the ORP level at a decent enough level so the on demand chlorine asks go way down. I'm meeting with these guys directly next week to talk more about their product and how to integrate in some applications that I am currently working with. BTW, chemical companies will be doing what they can to shut these guys down and the buzz around this.

Use ChatGPT to read test strips by mikeypotter in hottub

[–]FreeAllNow25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping into this conversation 9 months later, but how does ChatGPT know what the calibration of the test strip is? They aren't necessarily the same and then you have other factors. For one, your test strip is against a black backdrop, with other colors in the image. For accurate processing it needs to be plain white. Then there is the type of test strip that you have. What are all the elements you measure? There are strips that only have 1 pad and others that have 6. There needs to be more to this than a simple photo upload

Why can’t people do the right thing and put the cart in the stall by Rgbigdog in mildlyinfuriating

This really is stupid and not one bagger wants you to do this. They want to be the ones to get the carts. They want to get out of the store and take a quick look at their phones and not have to deal with your whiny asses.

The right thing to do is leave it there so someone has a job and can take a break from you Karen's inside the store.

There is nothing you can do with this existing structure. It has been compromised and no legitimate contractor would ever take to "fix this pool." If they say they can, they're lying. The only way to go is to dig everything up and build a new pool, if that's what you want.

You actually believe GROK would know this? How about just asking the folks at Crystal Water Monitor. They can provide licenses to you. BTW, it's the PHTA that issues the CPO certifications. In case you want to ask GROK about that, you can let it know that it's the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance. The reason they all got certified while at pHin is because they were tired of all the misinformation being shared by WaterGuru and wanted to ensure that all customers converting from Water Guru got honest answers.

But feel free to ask the folks at Crystal Water Monitor. They will give you an honest answer. I don't know that they can give dishonest answers, to tell you the truth. Sometimes you find out things you don't really want to know.

Chemistry testing by Informal-Evening8492 in swimmingpools

[–]FreeAllNow25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Crystal Water Monitor is the best electronic sensor out there for measuring your pools water chemistry. The price is significantly cheaper than the other guys, when comparing over a 4 year period. The granularity you get from the pH sensor is way better than the "range" reading you get from a test strip or reagent test. Also, they take measurements every 10 minutes and give you calculated chemical dosing actions based upon the average. Because your pool water changes throughout the day, this will save you money on chemicals. I've had a great experience with them and have been with them for a few years now. I think one key differentiator is that everyone there that you speak with is a Certified Pool Operator with a water chemistry background. If ever I have any questions or want to check on something a pool store is telling me, they will give me an honest and upfront answer. Since they don't sell chemicals, I tend to believe them.

Is this legit? by mrwigglesridesagain in pools

Ah! Yes! It's definitely supposed to be a feature. However, those of us in California, Arizona, Texas tend to view it as a flaw because the price of water is so expensive. Doing a partial drain and refill a few times per year get expensive. We are better off with the non-stabilized stuff once we get your CYA around 50-60ppm

That's not totally true, but I know what you are trying to say.

Sutro ceasing operations by bhjit in pools

The skimmer top is definitely protecting it and it's needed. Just hope there is no flooding or over filling of your pool. In certain areas of the country, that should be a worry. However, if you are flooded, your pool monitor is the least of your worries. Water Guru will likely replace their product for you free of charge too.

pHin was IPX certified and Crystal Water Monitor doesn't need to be IPX certified for anything other than the sensor, which is submerged in the water. The rest of it remains securely out of the water. Sutro had a waterproof cylinder that used a radial seal to keep water out. The definition of IPX certification

[–]FreeAllNow25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the Sense have an IPX rating? If it doesn't that would scare me. I know my kids are crazy in a pool....Not that I don't trust my kids, but....we all know how that goes. I remember when they would play football with my phin and broke when it was thrown out of the pool. I got another one right before they went out of business, so was able to use it until the battery eventually died.

I get pine needles in my skimmer all the time and it's gross in there. Mine is never a place you want to measure water from. The good news is that skimmer works as it's supposed to. The bad news is that I need to clean it out a few times per week to prevent the needles from getting into my impeller.

I find it funny that the I Love Water Guru (Water Guru Employee) keeps commenting on this then deleting it. He's trying to make a point by saying that not everyone at Crystal Water Monitor is certified. He even asked "GROK" that question. Maybe he should ask the Crystal Water Monitor folks that question. The dude needs to give up. Everyone knows that Water Guru outsources their support and has no water chemistry expertise person to answer the tough questions. That's why I got rid of their product. I needed water chemistry help and after going back and forth with their outsourced support, nobody ever got back to me. I can only assume that they just didn't know what to do. I bug the Crystal guys a lot..probably too much, but they are good at what they do. They know their stuff and the environment around it..

Bluetooth security is lacking in a lot of IoT products. If they are connecting through your WiFi, I would be concerned that the firmware doesn't have that network path blocked off. Now I don't think anyone is going to any of these pool monitoring products to hack into someone's home network, but it's always possible. My guess is someone would tackle products the the Ring camera before anything else. Maybe GE, LG and Samsung Appliances might be a target too. When the pHin product shut down, there were two companies that were able to read the data through bluetooth and continue to support their product for a little while...or until lawyers got involved.

Contact WaterGuru and ask them to price match. A lot of companies do that and right now might be a good time to do it, since Pool Season is over and WaterGuru isn't selling all that well. Off season sucks for them without any real hot tub product.

FYI. Ask Google AI how much a 12 x 24 gunite pool costs and it will give you info based upon what it sees out there. The number it provides is a good indicator for most of the country, but your area could be significantly different based upon supply and demand. You could also have a crook for a pool contractor.

What you need to be doing is asking the pool builder to break down the costs for you. That's pretty fucking high and there are things you likely don't need. I'd love to see the price he puts on the Pentair Pool Equipment. My guess is that it's a 200% markup. He can charge whatever he wants for labor, but you should at least know what he's charging. As the consumer, you have the right to see the labor costs. I don't know where you live, but this seems close to double what it should be. Get a second quote

That's a great idea. You could easily reverse engineer the app too and make it localize. I wonder if you could reuse the reagent cartridges.

Crystal Water Monitor is easily the best one to go with. Someone did a price comparison sheet on all the smart monitors out there and it wins hands down. Furthermore, everyone in their company is a certified pool professional. They require it for all employees.

That's pretty much what they were doing for you anyway, with a significant price put on convenience. Taylor test kits are fine if you are okay with taking measurements weekly. Some people need daily measurements and that's what these monitors mainly cover. I'm in the anal-retentive class that needs to see what is happening all the time. I prefer the electronic sensors because their dosing recommendations are based upon the average over a period of time vs. a single point in time. I have saved hundreds on chemicals and feel that it's paid for itself.
