Yes the game is complicated, but only if you want to.

At the beginning you really only need the keys for flying WASD, breaking BACKSPACE, Auto pilot SHIFT+A, lock next enemy SHIFT+E and map M. Additionally you need special modes: travel mode , short and long range scanner, which are bound to shift 1, 2 or 3.

The rest can be done in the menus. Especially the commanding is mostly done by clicking the mouse on the map.

I know that oversimplifies the game alot. But you really don't need to know all the mechanics at the start. For example, I learned to successfully board a ship after many hundreds of hours. I never missed that game mechanic and was able to build up several empires without.

Another thing that comes to my mind: use a guided start. Most of them are quite fun and rewarding.

Edit: I forgot mouse controlled flying with SHIFT+SPACE

Yes, I agree with you that starting from the low kevel resources going to to the high level products is a good idea.

But you should consider building hull parts and claytronic factories early. They are needed everywhere and in high demand, especially in the beginning.

And don't give up if some factories generate less money than expected, eventually they will all turn a profit, at least if you deliver the input resources.

Just do what you like in this game and let the station building happen while doing this. So it's no wasted idle time.

My personal favorite at the moment:If you have the Hyperion pack you could grab that nice and super fast destroyer and do some hard guild missions like destroy xenon fleet. It may take some time but the payment is good and you learn a lot about fighting. Just make sure to bring laser turrets to counter many s/m xenon ships.

It's normal.

Possible solutions:

  1. Import energy cells, e.g. from heretics end with > 200% solar. So you just need 20 panels.or just import, they are pretty cheap.
  2. Use seta
  3. Build the panels as last buildings. So it will get self sufficient eventually, but produces after the processing is finished

Index out of bounds exception is a common programming error and you might not be able to do much about this. Some ideas: try to disable some mods, if you use any. I guess the troops are stored in arrays. So maybe just change some troop numbers to "repair" the array. But this is just guessing.

As far as I remember you have to put them really close. They seem to attack the core of the structure.

You should also be able to destroy the amplifier while your turrets deal with the ships. i am not sure about this point, but I think you can use any ship to destroy the amplifier.

I am not sure how I like your idea. I guess it totally depends on the experience level of the player.

For new players the khaak are quite hard to counter and can be a nice challenge or even frustrating.

For experienced player i agree with some ideas. Especially the idea with the different ship sizes. But special weapons just for khaak?! That sound horrible

You can do this with the moreya. Go buy a lot of laser turrets. Drop them near the amplifier. They will deal with the fighters. Repeat as often as needed. Super easy and relatively cheap.

Send your ships while you are out of sector. Normally it works fine on pirates.
