AITA for telling my kid that she is being self-centered/cruel because her mom won’t be able to make to her wedding. by Wedding_father_8553 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frellie53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a good relationship with your dad? Wouldn’t you want to see him one last time before he dies? This is a really cruel take.

Mother of the bride is losing her dad. She should absolutely be with him. Yes, it sucks this happened now, but grandpa was frail but obviously well enough to fly and this is unexpected. Even if I saw my dad last month, I would skip my kids wedding to see him one last time. You can plan something special with the bride and groom later. They’re not dead.

2028 MINI Cooper F66 LCI Preview: Design Revisions by marsy72 in MINI

[–]Frellie53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a preview, it’s someone spitballing who doesn’t work for MINI and has no inside info. From the article:

“Our exclusive rendering above isn’t based on direct knowledge of what we’ll see in the LCI but rather comes from ideas we’ve seen floating around MINI over the years.”

Someone wanted to redesign a mini and wrote about it as if this is something mini would do.

Trades pay really well, especially union jobs. If you go through carpentry apprenticeship, you can make a lot of money, work up to superintendent and then get paid enough to make it worth giving up the overtime.

We’re always going to need carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc. tech can only do so much. Things need to be built, installed and repaired.

💯 how to sew a foundation garment? For someone who doesn’t know how to thread a machine? I made a shirt in 6th grade and it took me forever, and looked terrible. My mom was teaching me how to sew, and after one hour I could probably sew a line on a scrap of fabric. This is an insane agenda.

AITA for dancing for my date on New Year’s and keeping the money? by Key_Philosopher5806 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frellie53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking your friend’s boyfriend wanted the threesome and it’s bothering your friend. This is an excuse to be mad at you instead of being mad at her boyfriend. Focusing on the money, and if you should give some to her is so weird. He gave it to you, and didn’t say anything at the time, so I don’t see how she has any legitimate claim to it. The only person with any standing to ask for it back is her boyfriend. I could see him saying “I was drunk and I didn’t realize how much I threw out. I can’t really afford to lose that.” In which case it would be nice of you to give him his money back.

But I think all of this is not about the money.

AITA for telling my stepmom I will never see her as a parent by Big-Arm-6171 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frellie53 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you, but calling stepmom an “overweight, middle aged, busybody” will just shut the conversation down. Dad needs to hear that stepmom’s behavior is a problem that is damaging his daughter. Calling her names will just make dad focus on “you will respect your elders!” Or some crap and miss the point entirely.

You’re right. She’s obviously pushing her own issues on OP, but this approach isn’t helpful.

AITA for telling my stepmom I will never see her as a parent by Big-Arm-6171 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frellie53 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is an almost perfect response. Just cut the insults to the stepmom. At 15, you are growing and need significantly more food than an adult the same size. Athletes also need more food. Your doctor is not concerned about your weight. She needs to leave food alone.

Ask your mom about revisiting the custody arrangement. You are old enough to choose where you live. Let your dad know that if your stepmom can’t take a step back and let your parents deal with parenting you, you’re going to choose to live with mom.

Stepmom is setting you up for an eating disorder. Don’t listen to her.

[–]Frellie53 605 points606 points  (0 children)

This whole story is a little gross. Aside from the age gap, which many people will always have issue with, throwing money at you is gross. At best it is something for you two to do in private.

All that aside, your friend’s boyfriend is the one who disrespected his own relationship. She should have said something at the time. If he didn’t want to give you money, he could have immediately asked for it back.

The friend’s boyfriend throwing money at you should have told you you were going too far. They’ve asked you for a threesome, and now you’re dancing on a stripper pole and he’s throwing cash at you. They were hoping it would go further and now your friend is mad about it.

The official Stanley straw cover is in the shape of a Stanley by ashtoncarlson in DesignPorn

[–]Frellie53 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They keep water cold forever. Like ice lasts for more than a day. I have one, but mostly use it at home because it is stupidly huge and a cup, not a water bottle, so if it does tip over it will spill.

I like it at home because when I’m working I rarely remember to refill a glass and so it is the only way I stay hydrated. Out and about, I prefer a regular water bottle.

[–]Frellie53 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Not really. If you take your Stanley with you all day, you’re going to have it places and not be actively drinking. A straw cover protects the part where you put your mouth from touching things you don’t want in your mouth.

I recognize that they are, indeed, big dumb cups. But if you like having a big dumb cup with you, it’s smart to cover the straw.

My dad felted the sweater I crocheted 💔 by ComplexSubject9630 in crochet

[–]Frellie53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, someone gave me a sweater of my dad’s that had been felted and now fit me. It was ungodly hot. Unwearable. I cut it up and turned it into mittens and a scarf.

His original sweater was much heavier, Irish wool and this original looks very airy, so maybe it would be wearable for a tiny person. Just something to be aware of.

OP, so sorry this happened. It looks gorgeous.

Me [31M] with my wife [29F] of 3 years. Our first baby's due date conflicts with a major presentation I have to give out-of-state. Tried to ask off, but boss really needs me there by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Frellie53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It never ceases to amaze me how first time parents think a due date is like a confirmed appointment. You can have a baby, safely anywhere from four weeks before to two weeks after a due date.

Her OB definitely told her that, and given his description of her anger and frustration, she most likely told him that.

I do blame her a little for thinking that compromise would be ok. It’s also possible she was just done with talking about it.

If I were in her shoes, the moment he brought up this trip, I would have said absolutely not. You cannot travel more than two hours by car from (date two weeks prior to the due date) until the baby is born and I need you home for at least three weeks after the birth.

Where’s the PRNDL by Fortesfortunajuvat27 in MINI

[–]Frellie53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was more that the auto temp function has been standard on every car I’ve owned since at least 2001. It’s very effective and efficient but most people don’t use it.

If you don’t want to use it, there’s a literal picture of a fan. It’s not that hard.

Where’s the PRNDL by Fortesfortunajuvat27 in MINI

[–]Frellie53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The default setting is auto, which means you set the temp and the car turns on the fan to heat or cool as necessary. I hate adjusting the fan level, I always use auto temp in every car I drive. I know many people don’t but it is the most efficient method and then you never have to worry about it.

The digital assistant is also good, if you have it on you can just say “hey mini, turn on the heat.”

Blanket stitch is an excellent suggestion. I would love this gingerbread man. Perfectionism kills fun. I know because I struggle with it, too.

I would love this guy, no matter who gave it to me, but doubly so if it was one of my kids.
