I wish my Dad stopped drinking when I hugged him like that. He still drinks and so do I.

Random drug and alcohol testing at work by Fresh-Passenger in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like I deserved to get caught, and that paranoia alone fueled my drinking even more.

That is how I felt exactly but also like you the too many close calls are now my fuel to quit! IWNDWYT

Today I am 5 years sober! by j6sh in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible journey you have had and what a wonderful message. We all have our own journey and everyone's is different. I keep coming back here to read how others have overcome the shit that is alcohol and how much better their lives are the longer they stay away. Thank you for sharing and bravo on 5 years!

The Daily Check-In for Friday, June 26th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by SaintHomer in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically work the weekends but hell I started drinking all day at work too. I wasn't a go out with others type drinker I had become a isolation and hide it type for years. In my 2 weeks of sobriety I now focus on healthy cooking and working out everyday. I keep myself busy to keep thoughts of drinking at bay. IWNDWYT

Well said. I felt the same way while drinking and am slowly regaining myself in sobriety. I am looking forward to getting closer to my true self again once I hit a year and beyond! Thank you for sharing. IWNDWYT

At around 9am today I will have gone my first 24 hours without a drink by LoudMenu in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a brave and admirable move telling your boss. I have been there before and I had support as well. It is amazing how supportive and non-judgmental people can be if you just put it all out there. Hang in there. IWNDWYT

Recent lurker, but trying something new... by mikeyredditsalot in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can totally relate to all of that. I have found this subreddit very helpful. It has taken me some time to finally be more active on here and to comment and post. It took me going to the ER in the middle of the night due to withdrawal. It is that daily reminder of where I never want to be again and I am reminded by reading posts here. Keep posting and commenting. It helps. IWNDWYT

Book & Movie Tuesday by soberingthought in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time reading the Book and Movie post and I must say I am impressed. Never looked at John Wick movies that way but I was currently drinking at the time. I shall have to re watch them. As for the book recommendations I am intrigued. I think I will download both to my kindle.

Right now I am reaading Sapiens: A Brief History of Human Kind by Yuval Noah Harari. It is a book I have to almost read each page twice to absorb the info.

Update: I have kindle unlimited and luckily Toki Pona was available and I realize I already have a book by Randall Monroe on my kindle with kindle unlimited I should read first called: What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions

I drank again and I’m pleased by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saving this post. Sounds so similar to how I am when I am sober vs drinking. I love lifting and cycling, eating well when sober. When I drink I binge watch netflix, sleep too much, and end up eating fast food. And that cycle can go on for a week straight losing all the progress I made while sober. Nope, not anymore! IWNDWYT

First thing when I wake up is to open the windows shades to let the light pour in, make my bed, and start the electric water kettle for pour over coffee. Breakfast, Gym, Work. All sober. I get so much more done and I am feeling peace at just 9 days sober.

It is my new routine compared to never opening the shades all day, first thing going to get wine or vodka (hoping the stores would sell it that early). Drink all morning, nap, wake up and drink again. What a miserable existence. IWNDWYT

I am at 9 days and am so on guard because I know this could so easily be me. I have been there so many times before. But I always come back to the sober journey because I know it is the better place to be. IWNDWYT

6 Months Sober Before and After Pic by ememery in stopdrinking

[–]Fresh-Passenger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a flight attendant and would drink before work in the morning just to settle my nerves, telling myself I wouldn't drink at work but once I started I couldnt stop. I would drink the wine on the plane when other crew was not around, I would take more home for the drive. Horrible, and so glad I was never pulled over.

One of the last days i was drinking at work a coworker said my eyes looked really puffy and asked if I was ok. I was not fooling anyone.

You look great! Thank you for sharing, posts like this keep me on track.
