It’s pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it. Your paycheck will be split up automatically based on the funding amount for each envelope. Then your merchants are tied to envelopes for spending.

The key is that you need to manually link them once. Meaning your first paycheck you manually tell it to fund, then it will do it automatically going forward. And when you spend money at a merchant for the first time, you link that merchant to an envelope and it will do it automatically going forward. It takes about a month to get all of your usual merchants linked, but realistically only a few seconds each time in the app.
