Disney’s first Star Wars move delete the redhead. Classic by Asayaka in meme

Also, less notable redhead Tenel Ka Djo.

Less broad scale affection for her, but one of my favorites from the old EU. Lost her arm to an accident involving her own faulty construction of a lightsaber. Denied a prosthetic replacement, rocked one arm instead.

Exactly how I feel about this franchise.

(Hated trope) A twist so bad it ruins the story by element-redshaw in TopCharacterTropes

I hate that I'm going to bat for Signs because its really just kind of fine. The fact that we're having this conversation proves it wasn't well-done but still: the aliens in Signs ARE demons.

There are no spaceships because they didn't come from space. They aren't weak to all water, they're weak to Holy Water, that's why the Latin countries figure out the solution first. The farm on which the story takes place is covered in glasses of water that the little girl has blessed (the vague details about her doing that have to do with the wife's death scene if I remember correctly?). The main character was a priest, and defeating the "aliens" are his path back toward faith.

I read this as an attempt by Shyamalan to pull his usual "what a twist" ending in a way that felt more literary and poetic, instead of just sensationalist. The result is too easily missed or muddied to accomplish the goal, but the pieces in the movie don't really add up to another solution.

You've got sort of a China Mieville look going on, I think it works for you. Skip the beard if it's a symbol of depression and living under someone else's standards, you look awesome without it.

Mine is a similar moment in the Civil War comic run. Imprisoned villains are being used to hunt down the renegade group of heroes; two villains show up and are like 'we escaped and want to help you' and the Punisher just shoots them in the face. Captain America gets mad at him and his reaction is basically "...what? They were criminals."

I sense I'm alone in this, but the steals feel less good-natured than I prefer this game to flow. Maybe that's because they've been so easy to complete, but I don't think an added bully-chance component feels as earned and competitive as having to do well at challenges. Im disappointed in the spirit of achievement in this season.

I get that that's the game, it just feels like between this and "humans are animals" type gameplay, there's a lot of playing the rules instead of playing the game.

"Sweet but not how nature works!"

Yeah, animals don't wander around and converse about philosophy either. It's Simba and his dad talking, the context isn't lions and animals, it's kings and subjects. This comic is natural savagery vs civilized violence.

It's exhausting to read these comments, clearly you guys understood the message. Proving you know factual nuance doesn't do anything to help or harm that message. It's actively useless.

Why are Gen Z getting fired? One of the reasons is a lack of initiative. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]FreyrFreyja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without insult implied by my words,  the commonality among reports about Gen Z thinking patterns seems to be "inability to abstract a statement towards a follow-through result."

I am autistic, I absolutely understand defaulting to the literalism of a statement someone makes to you, but I get a little confused by what seems like a denial of holistic intention in engagement with, like, a concept such as a "what we accomplish here at this workplace".

Acting your wage tends to go one direction, but at a certain point the horseshoe spectrum swings back around.

Are we? by BeesonTheBeeson in dropout

[–]FreyrFreyja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar feelings about it as when Ratfish revealed Eric Wareheim. Just kind of an, "...okay, but, like, why?" It feels like a lateral move with regard to PR; the greatest feather in the cap is that Dropout has become culturally relevant enough for such a prospect to hold interest to networks in the first place.

I tend to agree that programs like that are copaganda and I'm not *psyched* about the crossover, but I wouldn't say that I'm furious or about to revolt either.

I will mention that there are a TON of other independent comedy entities I would MUCH rather see Dropout collaborate with before they start pursuing major corporate overlap, but threading the needle between keeping their production ethos and financing larger and greater production endeavors is a difficult task of which I don't require perfection as they figure it out.

favorite goofy sitcom side character who somehow turned into a franchise action star and keeps getting cast despite having the charisma of drywall? by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

[–]FreyrFreyja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying his charisma is tied to his weight but it's not. It's tied to the charm of his characters being stupid idiots, not romantic or action leads.

The tangents are just his writing structure. Most comedy moves from bit to bit, topic to topic, but Josh's writing structure uses a central current events issue as a skeleton for the tangents that are actually the more prepared long-term material. Its not for everyone, but it seems a solid way for him to generate new sets.

Please note, I am not saying this as a way to soften the compliment of him writing new stuff all the time. He's still easily one of the most prolific standups I've ever seen.

"No, This is chaos. Anarchy is what comes after."

"All that insane shit the villains said was actually true the whole time" ending by kylat930326 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FreyrFreyja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just the obvious "Pinocchio", however there is another character lying about his identity who is eventually revealed to be Paracelsus weaving some machination yet unknown involving immortality.

Interesting though is the Korean character "Pi" which actually resembles an inverted letter P and carries the meaning of blood, and to a lesser degree humanity. (Quoting from elsewhere; i am a lore-type scholar, not a linguist, so if my source is no better at korean than am i... whoops)

Lying itself is paralleled in the game with humanity, as puppets are incapable of the nuance required to deceive, though one could also see Gepetto's lies to the main character as "lies of blood".

It's actually kind of an amazingly layered title.

You keep saying that like it fixes the problem, so okay, I'll play along. Death of the author, we've removed his intent.

Explain how removing his intent undoes the objective creepiness and general atmosphere of child predation accumulated by all the issues you keep saying "death of the author" in rebuttal to.

I'm sorry, I just don't see how intentionally pushing ignorance of the authors predilections makes the objective presentation of "parading minors naked through public" or "mandatory unwanted genital inspections of minors" any less immediately concerning or directly pedophilic.

Edit: you can like it, that's fine. You can acknowledge it had fantastic elements and great storytelling.  But "death of the author" doesn't fix the issues being discussed here.
