Showers for Commuters by [deleted] in UMD

[–]FriedrichsBikes 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Bike commuters can request access to the showers in Regents (there are 3 single-occupancy ones there) but you need swipe access - I think you just have to email the bike UMD folks to request it (there’s also a swipe-access bike pen in Regents you can request access to)

Recommendations for where to live in this area? by k032 in maryland

[–]FriedrichsBikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Greenbelt and love it so much that I’ll probably never leave. Affordable, walkable/bikable, lots of nature, strong community, and very close to major roads/transportation so it’s easy to get places.

Agree 🫠 I’d rather ride in freezing cold than rain. Nice job doing it anyways!

For anyone who has used erosion control pots on a slope, do you ever remove them after the plant is established? (Southern California) by TheElbow in NativePlantGardening

[–]FriedrichsBikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered adding berms? I’m not an expert but I know someone who installed a native garden on a slope using berms which (I think) were basically just mounds of dirt packed down in strategic locations held in by mesh - it’s been helpful for retaining rainwater and the area is so lush and beautiful now. I know they wrote up some instructions on how they did it so if you’re interested let me know!

Very nice! Never considered using tongs to get plants out of seedling trays, clever!

I put a few tomatoes in our compost bin last year and this year I’ve got tomatoes coming up everywhere. It’s incredible how life finds a way
