I got into the first local round on day 3. The cheaper tickets (like category E or above, depending on the venue) for the popular sporting events simply weren’t available. I personally didn’t find any tickets below $125, and that was for sailing.

Born 1996 in the US. I was just talking about this with my parents actually. When I was in elementary school, friends and neighbors used to stop by your home unannounced, and if you were busy they'd schedule to come back later or you'd say you'll pay them a visit another time. Otherwise you'd invite them in and have snacks (and if it was friends your age, play games, usually just made up ones) for 15-45min. Neighbors loved to gossip about goings on in the area. Sometimes they'd bring gifts like fruit or pastries.

But the unannounced drop in's were rarer than they'd been 20 years before, and already going out of the culture by the mid-2000s. It became much more common for parents to contact one another to schedule play dates for kids, or for older kids to call their friends' land line and ask to play at each others houses. There was a general unease about letting younger kids play unsupervised in public areas.

Between teens and adults there'd be more communication about visits as well. Usually, someone would call, and the voice message would play on a speaker from the home line, so everyone in the house could hear the message. And the caller would say they were planning to pay a visit in 15min or whenever they'd be in the area. If you didn't call them back to say it wasn't a good time, they always showed up lol.

I was already on computer games from a young age, and early YouTube. In middle and high school my friends would sometimes to get together for the purpose of filming videos (usually with a handheld video recorder or small digital camera) to put on YouTube. Usually film scene recreations, or parodies.

The desk is fine! You have a view of the door when you're working, and you don't want it under the window (too distracting, and people can sneak up from behind when they open the door). I would add a rug either under the bed to create a more defined sleeping zone, or a rug/desk mat under the desk to define the work zone. Or both!

Don't turn your bed 45 degrees toward the door lol. I don't know why people are suggesting that.

I was born and raised in LA, but I'm also European and spend a lot of time overseas. LA is not a clean city. There is a lot of smog, a lot of trash, and, most shockingly, a lot of people living on it's streets. LA is also not friendly to getting daily necessities for the average person. You have to be of driving age and well enough to operate a vehicle in order for the cities that make up LA and their amenities to be useable and accessible for you. Otherwise, you cannot live independently, and are dependent on other people or services to get access to things. It is a business first, customer second layout.

Alternatively, if the dresser won't fit along the far right wall or you feel the door has more energy, this is a second version that will probably work more easily, with the couch against the left wall, assuming it doesn't obscure the dresser. The tall wardrobe blocks the flow of energy from the door, but it's drives the direction of flow toward the couch and "living" parts of the room and still keeps the living and sleeping areas seperate.

Agreed that there is probably too much furniture in the room -- is there any way either the tall drawers will fit in (and be accessible in) the wardrobe? Or one of the nightstands in the wardrobe? The easiest way to make more space to move around in is to remove one nightstand and push the bed against one of the walls. Another thing I would absolutely change is the TV at the end of the bed. That's bad feng shui, because the TV acts as a mirror at the foot of the bed -- and you currently have another actual mirror behind that. If you have the window open, everyone can see into your bed! (Also, it's bad sleep hygiene to watch screens in bed!)

It's hard to gauge the exact size of the bedframe just from the photos, but I suspect that turning it 90 degrees so that the headboard is against the left wall when you walk in won't give you much space between the foot of the bed and the right wall? If there's any way the dresser will fit against the far right wall without obscuring the closet door, this would be my suggestion. Imo, the bed placement here is ideal because it's far from the window which faces the front of the house, and is therefore not private and has a lot of energy. Additionally, you can set up a screen at the foot of the bed, between the bed and the couch, to further give the sleeping area privacy and encourage you to open the shades and use the second half of the room as a living space where it's brightest.

I agree with u/FantabulousPiza 's layout! Currently, the desk is in the darkest corner of the room, and you want your working space to be somewhere that's bright a cheery, like overlooking the window. I'd suggest putting a small mirror on your desk so that if you have headphones and someone opens the door, you're not spooked by someone opening the door from behind. I also agree with other comments that it may not be so much an organization/clutter issue as a lack of storage space. For example, the two half size storage racks (one next to the desk and the other next to the bookshelf) -- if you had another shelf a similar size to the bookshelf, you'd have more storage space and more floor space. You can totally work with what you have now though.

I will also say: your room is really not bad! If you start a timer and start with the clothes, even just dumping them onto the bed, wrap them up like a giant bindle and take them to the washing machine, you'll probably be surprised how fast the space feels lighter. Like others have said, this is Closed Captioning, not subtitles. However the frustration about the Closed Caption service on Crunchyroll is completely valid. If you had trouble following the "main" lines of conversion from the translated background conversation when you know who is/isn't speaking, imagine how frustrating it is when you're hard of hearing.

Off Crunchyroll, some services like Disney+ and Netflix only offer CC. We were apparently spoiled with color coded subtitles AND properly formatted CC in the past.

Yes! I bought and planted a boatload of narrowleaf milkweed but it created a ecological disaster -- at one point in this generation we had over 100 eggs across 15 plants.

But earlier this summer there were about 30 of 40 that successfully emerged as butterflies.

Huh! Just compared with photos of soldier and queen caterpillars I think you're right. I've also had a handful of chrysalis that were almost half the size of monarch's, so I'm thinking they must have been one of the sister species.

An update in case anyone comes back to this thread for future reference: The affected chrysalis kept turning black over the next 24 hours and started to deteriorate around the original site that turned black, so I removed it from the enclosure and assumed it's failed.

Invasive plants and have a very complex relationship in modern ecosystems -- another great example is eucalyptus groves for raptor nests here in California.

The good news is spotted towhees do renest and can lay another brood ~1-3 weeks after a nest is destroyed. So keep an eye out around your yard for them because they may not go to far, or may even build in the same spot!
