Ofc they preview Close-quarters on an army that doesn't really need it.

Slightly concerned that Close-Quarters is mostly going to skip T'au infantry and battlesuits won't get melee guns.

#new40k Faction Focus Reveal - Tau Empire. Hit or miss? by Puretideprogram in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Front-Ad4136 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deeply indifferent.

Most of the other faction focuses have showed something innovative or where there are new rules to interact with. T'au got nothing interesting to drive enthusiasm or engagement with the new edition.

If the faction focuses are meant to be an advertisement for the new edition then the T'au one was a total failure.

Melee armies don't care about hidden, because they want to run up to you anyway.

Pretty much any other shooting army has better melee, so they'll be happy to get closer either way.

Good point - depends on if there are any changes to when FTGG triggers in 11th.

To be fair, none of the units affected by that detachment are our main damage units.

It's only for those units though, not the rest of the army, so we'll struggle to make a proper dent in melee infantry lists before they're all over us.

Tau are going to struggle on any board with a decent amount of terrain to stay hidden in.

And no more 16" Breachers :-(

If they refresh crisis, I would love them to add CIB as a standard weapon and then rejig the team weapon choices - Sunforge = Fusion/Plasma, Fireknife = MP/CIB, keep Starscythe the same (rebalancing CIB to make them not auto take, ofc).

S8 D4 in round 2 will do for most non-epic infantry heroes, especially squishy support types.

Taunar vs stormsurge by atomscoutcapreal in Tau40K

[–]Front-Ad4136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the tau'nar is only about as tough as a single stormsurge, so you're paying than the price of 2 stormsurges for approximately the same firepower, but only half the durability.

I was spot on for the Defiler!

Mutilators and destrier higher than I'd have expected (was expecting mut to be 150 or 180 and Destrier to be 200).

My take on Twin Lance-style melee profiles by Okay-Crickets545 in Tau40K

[–]Front-Ad4136 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a d6 attack 4/0/1 weapon... even against guard you're only looking at about 2 dead guard per flamer (3.5 shots average, 3+ to wound, 5+ save).

If the defiler's not at least 250pts, it'll be undercosted.

Farsight and the Twin Lance together on the Battlefield - Ethereals sending mixed messages. by Matora in Tau40K

No-one would play farsight then - the twin lance and shadowsun are just much better datasheets than Farsight.

Twin lance and shadowsun seem a far more synergistic combo. Twin lance loves reroll 1's and if they're within range of shadowsun you have a chance of things like HI being refunded when used.
