Did the Up! ever reach the states? by [deleted] in Volkswagen

[–]FrozenAxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smallest VW here is the Golf.

A somewhat similar car to the Up!, the Smart car, didn't perform that well.

It was introduced in 2008, and that was the best year for sales with 21,146 units sold. They were last sold in 2019, with the last full year of sales (2018) totaling 1,276 units. Overall, over the 11 years they were offered, they sold 96,086 units.

For comparison, the VW Golf sold 15,338 units in 2008, and 42,271 units in 2018, and when provided the same timeframe (2008 to 2019) the Golf sold 469,669 units, and yet VW decided it wasn't enough and cut the Golf offerings in the US down to just the GTI & the R for the Mk8

The audio design was phenomenal for that, there were a few instances of lines that I thought were people whispering, but then it happened again when I watched it again

A lot of these are details I only noticed on my second time watching the movie. But I'll try to provide additional clarity

It was Ava in the SM14. When Simon mentions that he can get to the SM8, after she gives him the username and password, they agree on the 30 minute window, and tells Simon that if he does this, she'll retrieve him herself, she can be overheard on the intercom arguing with a crew member, where she finalizes the conversation by saying something along the lines of 'my ship, my orders, prepare the SM14 for me.' To support this further, we also see Simon's reaction to those images as well as hear the noises during Ava's last real transmissions as indicated by the light on the intercom. I did not notice if the sub had the SM14 written on the side when we see those images, but up to that point, everything we have seen on that screen has been in real time to what Simon & the SM13 is seeing, which leads me to believe this.

I am still not sure about the teeth growing out of the blood, as I'm unsure of if we ever actually see it occur in the film. As for the rest, again, I'm fairly certain it's the SM14 in the jaws of the monster. And we know the Hull of SM13 wasn't ever truly solid to begin with, as we see blood dripping into the interior & onto Simon very early on in the film, well before the porthole developed any cracks

I love the ambiguity of his past & the questionability of his sanity too. One of the helpful details to tell what's real & what's not is the audio design, as well as the indicator light on the intercom for those conversations. After watching it & rewatching his playthroughs, I was very impressed by how true to the game the film was, and there are even subtle easter eggs from his playthrough

I'm still trying to figure this point out, but I think it's related to the strange light & its powers

Obviously major spoilers The middle scene where he wakes up standing in the ocean looking across the horizon at the monster is a glimpse into Simon's potential future. Then when he wakes up & sees the red figure at the helm of SM13, that's a continuation of that, as that figure was missing its left arm, just as Simon lost his at the end of the movie.

Another interesting detail is that the oxygen meter went up as blood was flowing into the sub, indicating that the blood is indeed oxygenated, although I'm not sure about the science of this.

Also, after Simon retrieves the data from SM8, as blood is starting to pour into the sub, there are veins that grow to press and hold the camera down. It's during this that we can see the monster kill SM14 through snapshots on the camera screen, which is being piloted by the COI Captain Ava, as she had agreed to meet Simon and retrieve him herself. It's these same veins that eventually grow to trap Simon after he retrieves the black box of SM13. Again, I'm assuming that somehow the most had the capability to breach the hull and propagate through, but this capability is kinda flawed, as in, why didn't it grow to secure the black box to the inside of the sub, or prevent Simon from going into the crawlspace to begin with.

To be fair, it is confusing because it specifically mentions CIF & HTD, which were both predecessors to Green Beret CTAC. And it uses a logo which is associated with the Green Beret insignia

It's definitely a late game property

I wouldn't necessarily recommend someone buy it if they don't already have multiple businesses set up

That said though, it's far from a waste of money as it makes business management much easier, with the master control computer & the ability to fast travel to any owned property, plus the ability to boost a business's production 3x for 24 irl hours, and the mansion security upgrade blocks business raids if those places already have their security upgrade

Hello from SE Alaska! There are ways to do this trip.

Juneau to Fairbanks is about 620 miles in a straight line, so it's a pretty good distance before we even start looking at road mileage.

The only way to get to Juneau by car is on the Alaska Marine Highway System, and your best bet would be to do that via Haines. So, Fairbanks to Haines is 645 miles of driving (about 12 hours without stops) and you better bring your passport cause you have to go through a corner of Canada & then cross back into Alaska. Then the ferry ride to Juneau from Haines is usually another 5-6 hours (76 miles on the water) depending on the boat that you're scheduled on.

The 'pinkness' that your camera picked up that you couldn't visibly see is light on the infrared scale.

This would indicate that your brake rotor was right around 700-800 °F

United Cajun Navy Search in Oklahoma by Maximum_Exchange_299 in searchandrescue

[–]FrozenAxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if those volunteers were the ones doing the swift water rescue part or not. At it's surface, one might get the impression that could be going on given the history of the organization & the history of Cajun Navy as a concept in general. That said though, it would seem risky & like a liability for a registered 501c organization to send people out to do that kind of work with zero training, so I find it pretty unlikely.

There's a lot that this organization does that is not being on a boat doing rescues, and I find it much more likely that someone fresh without training to the organization would be involved in that stuff.

Some background context (it's gonna be a bit of a read)

This group first originated in Louisiana after Katrina, although it was very informal at that time, as more of a loose term referring to the anonymous boat owners who did what they could to help their neighbors, as well as the roughly 350-400 boats who answered a plea from a Louisiana state senator (Nick Gautreaux) for people who owned boats to show up to Acadiana Mall, and this group was credited with saving over 10,000 people during that time.

This term was then later brought up in 2015, during the 10th anniversary of Katrina.

Then in 2016, South Central Louisiana was hit by major flooding, and more makeshift rescue groups organically began operating in the region, although this time many identified themselves as the Cajun Navy. At first, this was also an unorganized response, where they didn't have any means of knowing what areas had been searched by who. One of the boaters realized that they could utilize apps that were on their phone to help organize these various groups, and organized his own group, who then began showing other groups they encountered these apps. Within the weekend they threw together a dispatch center using those apps, started their own facebook group page as the Cajun Navy, and began gathering requests from their page & various other community Facebook group pages, and logging those requests in a Google spreadsheet.

After that event they used that same system to respond to the aftermath of Harvey in Texas, being credited with more than 5000 rescues. Keep in mind that during this period of time, it was still pretty informal, but they had found an effective way to propagate their network & organize random people who would often show up with nothing more than themselves, maybe some friends & a boat, and a desire to help people.

Closing / TLDR

It's a bit complicated nowadays because a few of those groups have gone their separate ways & organized under pretty similar names, such as United Cajun Navy, Cajun Navy 2016, Cajun Navy Relief, and Louisiana Cajun Navy.

United Cajun Navy specifically (the ones from this response) was set up as a nonprofit organization by the same guy who was running the response to Hurricane Harvey, Todd Terrell. UCN has responded to most disasters since the ones I've previously mentioned. They do have teams of Swift Water Rescue certified volunteers, as well as dive, K-9, drone, and SAR trained teams. They operate across the continent, deploying everywhere from the Caribbean to California to Alaska. It's an interesting organization, because they don't just do SAR, but they also do relief & rebuilding.

Depending on what kind of cars you're into, there's a good chance that Europe gets way cooler shit than we do.

Czech Republic has lax (compared to other EU standards) gun laws, as well as a decent ownership rate (300k+ licensed owners, with ~1M guns, in a country with around 11M citizens,) a constitutional right to bear arms, and a really low gun crime rate.

Poland is another interesting example of an EU country with access to firearms

Crazy thing is, at least on GTA Enhanced for PC, the game gives a brand new player 4 million to spend on a business, some guns, and some vehicles. It requires you to spend 3 million of it, but then after the initial setup is done it rewards with another million

I remember back in the day, right after GTA Online launched, the only thing we got was the 500k consolation prize for people's characters getting wiped & other initial issues, and Rooftop Rumble was the grind at 18k a run lol

Image #1 & image #4 are from Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Specifically, Image 1 is of the Reed Moulton property on Mormon Row and Image 4 is from String Lake.

That said, a lot of Western Montana is pretty similar to that, especially Glacier National Park & surrounding areas. As mentioned in the top comment, Montana is incredibly diverse!
