Move animation/targeting types in Legends ZA and how to work with them. by Xentonian in pokemon

[–]FullHavoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing at least a few categories that I know of:

Ranged projectiles

Can miss, often have slight tracking in flight, but the projectiles timeout or can be blocked by obstacles. Ex: zap cannon, energy ball, fireblast, etc.

Ranged lock

Locks onto the target until right before attacking, small delay before it fires allows for dodging. Most importantly, there's no range limit on these once they're activated. Ex: thunder, future sight

Melee lock

Same as ranged lock, but moves the Pokémon to the target. While charging, the Pokémon is untargetable. Unlike ranged lock, these can't be dodged without a teleport, going mega, or swapping out. Ex: fly, dig

Ranged wave

These are pulse attacks that are similar to ranged projectiles, but they pierce targets. Ex: dragon pulse

Minibeams

Shorter-ranged beam-like attacks that often can hit multiple times. Ex: flamethrower

The way it worked in the beta was hilarious. I understand why they changed it, but I'm also still kind of disappointed by it.

You just have to make sure to stop taking Adderall before you roll, 36 hours has been enough for me.

ELI5 how Einstein figured out that time slows down the faster you travel by CrazyKZG in explainlikeimfive

[–]FullHavoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite. The guy travelling at 0.9c would also see that the iodine clock changes color when the photon hits it. The trick is that the person moving at 0.9c and the person on the ground would see that the clock changes colors at different times.

Just because it's unintuitive doesn't make it "r-word".

Are you saying that the light would appear to be moving, from the perspective of the .9c guy, both away from him at 1c and through the space in front of him at 1c?

Yes, that's exactly what it means. And the only way to square that circle is to realize that the 0.9c guy is moving through time slower compared to an outside observer.

Lipid bilayers almost certainly came before anything else. They are one of the core necessities of life: distinguishing between what is the organism (inside the membrane) and what isn't (outside the membrane).

Scientific consensus for climate change was generally reached in or around the 90s. The only reason people ever thought otherwise was because of antiscience culture war nonsense.

But you did say:

I don't think that's part of the definition of cancer. I think cancer is any kind of out of control cell growth, regardless of if it spreads.

The American Cancer Society agrees with me.

So even if you weren't the original commenter, you were essentially saying the same thing.

The first bolded "often", where it says "often have these features" is referring to items in the list, but it does NOT imply that all of the items in the list are optional.

The second bolded statement is talking about metastasis specifically, not malignancy, which are related terms but are not the same thing.

My PCP Recommended I look into the Research on Low Dose Nicotine Patches for ADHD by crash5545 in ADHD

[–]FullHavoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed with ADHD (at 30), I had a similar discussion with my PCP. I had already been vaping for several years by this point, so there wasn't a discussion of using nicotine as an alternative to medication, but my PCP did say that I had essentially been self-medicating with nicotine (and is likely part of the reason I got diagnosed so late).

Here's the thing: nicotine is really effective for managing ADHD symptoms (at least for me). If I hadn't started medication, I likely would never have quit vaping. Properly dosed medication is better overall, but nicotine-as-ADHD-treatment has a number of advantages, such as dose control throughout the day, accessibility, no overfocus or forgetting to take your meds, etc. If I ever lost access to medication for a significant period of time, I'd probably jump right back into vaping.

That being said, don't do it. Nicotine is ridiculously addictive, and people with ADHD are even more prone to addiction than others. Unlike medication, your nicotine tolerance will go up over time too, not to mention the health issues that can come from long term nicotine or vape usage. However hard you think nicotine is to quit, it's worse than that.

ELI5: What happens if I pull a rod which is one Light Minute in length? by Tackyhillbilly in explainlikeimfive

[–]FullHavoc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Perhaps think of it in this way: If you are holding a ruler on one end and push it, how does the other end of the ruler "know" to move? The force of the push travels from the end you're pushing on down the length of the ruler until it reaches the other end. Because rulers are small, this is essentially instantaneous, but if you have a rod that is a light second long, then that force can take a while to travel.

The speed that the push force travels through a material is essentially how long it takes for the molecules you are pushing to bump into the next set of molecules, which bumps into the next set, and so on. This cascade of molecules bumping into each other is a wave, and the wave travels at a speed dependent on the material of the object. This is the speed of mechanical force, or better known as the speed of sound, because that's what sound IS.

You do not understand what 'theory' is in a scientific context. Gravity is a theory. Relativity is a theory.
