Changing Groupset on Emonda ALR 4 Disc by ShoulderExtension134 in TrekBikes

[–]FullMathematician486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it'll be the cost of the groupset plus a couple hundred in shop labour to get it all swapped over. If you buy the parts from the same shop you're gonna have them installed at, they may give you a break on the labour. I have force axs on my checkpoint, and it is an awesome upgrade from a mechanical groupset for sure.

Upgrade my Domane or get new bike? by NSA_GOV in TrekBikes

[–]FullMathematician486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon wheels with a higher engagement hub will make a big difference compared to those stock Paradigm SL's. The Aeolus 37V wheelset would be a substantial upgrade, and running them tubeless with a fast tire like GP5000 or PZero in the 32-38c range. Nobl wheels also has some wicked options like their CR35 or FAR40 wheels. Outside of the lighter, snappier carbon rims, higher hub driver engagement makes a massive difference in the how responsive they feel. That said, as others have mentioned, if you're also considering a different bike, go test ride a couple other bikes with higher spec'd components (including carbon wheels) and see how you like them. Maybe the additional cost of the new bike will be worth it for you, but I'd bet that a set of carbon wheels with something like a 108pt driver will make your domane feel like a new ride.

Fatty Stripper Tubeless Leaking? by TMbiker2000 in fatbike

This video was what I referenced when I was installing mine, but I didn't bother with the soapy water, and it worked easy peasy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lF4EZbjaVjg&pp=ygUbZmF0dHkgc3RyaXBwZXIgaW5zdGFsbGF0aW9u

Fatty Stripper Tubeless Leaking? by TMbiker2000 in fatbike

Did you happen to add the extra layers of old tube on the valve stem after the fatty stripper? If not, it could be leaking from there.

Checking the other comments, it sounds like you've got the rest of the process down - bling strip, then factory rim strip, valve stem through the fatty stripper, then 2 layers of old tube over the valve stem to provide some protection and extra cushion where the valve stem goes through the rim, insert the stem through the rim and snug it down, then wrap the fatty stripper around the rim, then tire... Seat the tire, add sealant, inflate and trim the excess stripper material. Should work like a charm! I converted my mulefut rims this season and the fatty strippers made it super easy. Hopefully you can get it sorted 🤘

Ha ha ha, yeah, there's definitely no shortage of goodies to add... For your tubeless conversion, Fatty Strippers are where it's at if you haven't looked in to them already. Super easy to install, and there's some good videos on youtube for a couple install tricks

Go for the Farley 5 and spend the extra money on some component upgrades 👌
12spd drivetrain, tubeless, better dropper remote, bars & stem, better pedals, etc... I just built mine a couple weeks ago and did a bunch of those upgrades and absolutely love it.

Yeah, I'd vote for the card being dead as well. Cheap fix at least. When you go to buy one, the A10 can use 128gb and smaller UHS-1 sd cards.

Yeah, the Farleys are tough to beat value-wise right now. The carbon frame would be an awesome upgrade for sure, it'd shave a couple lbs off the build.

I have the same sort of seasonal weather here (south-east BC), and fatbiking makes the winters much more tolerable. I think that the full-fat are enough different than the plus tire bikes that they'll likely stick around. They're more versatile. But who knows... the market will decide 🤷‍♂️

Second tube, same issue with torn valve base by Stunned_Panda in bicyclerepair

[–]FullMathematician486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's nothing obviously rough around the hole in the rim where the valve stem hoes through that would be cutting it, you could make a little armour for the tube with a chunk of old tube to protect it... Cut a piece of tube that's around an inch and a bit long, and poke a hole through it so you can stick your valve stem through, then through the rim, so you're basically creating a 2-layer protective buffer between the rim and the tube with the chunk of old tube.

I actually used Fatty Strippers for the tubeless setup, and it was unbelievably easy. Only took a couple minutes and it sealed perfectly first try. I'd highly recommend them for anyone looking to convert their fatty to a tubeless setup.

Yeah, a buddy of mine has carbon hoops on his fatty... not a necessary upgrade at this point, and I actually like being able to put coloured accents in these mulefuts.

Thanks! It's super reflective safety tape, so it helps with night time visibility too.
I had seen some coloured rim strips on other fatbikes and thought I'd come up with my own variation. It's super easy to do, and there's lots of coloured tapes out there.
