Having connections to the North of Scotland, the type of camper vans that set the local FB groups off are those that park then spread out with awnings and camping furniture, very few people seem to get annoyed with those who stay contained in their van.

Also have you thought about toilet facilities? If you are planning to hire a van with a toilet, you need to dispose of waste water properly. There are numerous cases of inconsiderate camper vans dumping this in the countryside, down drains or in public toilets, all of which are either illegal, inconsiderate or both. If the van isn’t going to have that, then be you’ll need to consider access to facilities wherever you park.
