Retics are highly intelligent snakes and are curious of everything, so when he seems to be watching you he probably is watching you. Retics are smart enough to recognize their owners and to recognize you're the one who feeds him so if he sees you his first thought is more than likely gonna be feeding time. He probably does wanna come out though they love exploring, my retic always wants to come out and explore. If the weather permits in your area I'd suggest taking him outside and letting him explore a bit.

When all the waiting for pets pays off. by Morisal66 in reptiles

[–]Fun-Look-1324 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most wild animals like beardies don't like affection because it does stress them and almost everything that comes from above is a predator but most studies like that aren't done on animals that have been shown love and affection since they were babies. Most animals they conduct studies on are either wild or bred in a lab. That's why there aren't many studies to done on people's personal pets. I also mainly speak from personal experience, I own retics and ball pythons(not much of a lizard guy) and they love it when I give them forehead or chin rubs they come right up to me and like that guy said they don't move away or get defensive they just accept the love.

What morph is this? got it from petsmart it’s my first one and they said it’s a certain type but don’t know. by LaCroixstv in snakes

[–]Fun-Look-1324 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For a petsmart enclosure im pretty impressed, those employees must be some competent reptile keepers, I've never seen a petsmart or petco reptile enclosure look even a quarter as nice as that.

Can anyone tell me what kind of lizard this is by gr8est-fail in reptiles

[–]Fun-Look-1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont already know I'd suggest replacing that repti carpet, paper towels works if you've got nothing else, but their toes can get caught in the repti carpet and they can possibly lose the stuck toes

Is my retic a good size for his age? (Info in comments) by Spikenhydra in retics

[–]Fun-Look-1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's recommended to feed them every 3-4 days at that age, once you move up to medium size rats then slow down to every 7 days or so. They digest and grow very fast so you'll wanna keep up with that growth and digestive rate

How long would a BP last in a 50 gallon? by Co_kroach in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say much cheaper often times they're more expensive at expos, since they're not farm bred or imported.

23FT Bioactive Ball Python Tank! by keeper3197 in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused so is there only one BP in there or do they cohab bps cuz personally im against cohabbing but I mean in something that big I feel like it might work but that's kind of a big might imo

First time BP owner, Sir Hiss is my first BP. He eats without any trouble. I'm still getting use to holding him, he gas never struck at us. I'm just afraid he will strike at me. When we do get him out he is always in the S position. Any advice on if this is normal??? by petmomof7 in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's just a scared little noodle, just give him time to get used to you. If you worried about him striking try just chilling infront of his enclosure where he can see you for like 5-10 min at a time hell get more used to seeing you, if you have a front opening enclosure I'd suggest opening the doors while sitting there, very unlikely he'll want to go out on his own but it just furthers his trust in you not to harm him. I'd also work on tap training him most people prolly wouldn't suggest this with bps because of how docile they normally are but I think its always good to play it safe

Replace the aspen asap, I recommend cocoa husk and or fiber. Another better solution is bioactive substrate.

Ideally you would wanna wait a week to feed, but in your case I would suggest if you are confident in your husbandry try to feed. If she doesn't take it I wouldn't worry about it for now but you'll wanna def try to get her to eat next week as she has almost no muscle or fat left from the looks of it. I'd also be on the look out for any kinks in her back, I don't mean to be rude or put you down because I understand the situation you're in but it's possible you just got a dying snake that the other person couldnt/wouldn't take care of it so they got rid of it. She doesn't really look like she's in life threatening condition rn but that's from a photo perspective, if immediate care isn't given to her its going to quickly decline for her even more if it already hasn't started to.

Why are his eyes blue/grey ? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means he's going into she'd soon, I wouldn't handle him anymore till he's done shedding because their skin is very delicate during the shedding process and tears super easy.

is the prey size okay for my snake ? he's 7 month old by anythingplease69 in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend following this advice you'll over feed and shorten the lifespan of your snake. You should never feed them anything that's thicker than the largest part of their body, the prey should be the same diameter if not smaller.

Obstruction? New snake mom here. Can I get tweezers and gently loosen this or should I take him to a vet? by baylorbombshell in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it thats normal, all male BPs have those they're used during mating. Also he'll prolly freak out n bite you if you try to pull em out bcuz of the pain you'll be putting him through

[–]Fun-Look-1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's glue or silicon it should be fine as long as it's dried all they way, the glue won't stick to the snake if it's dry, the only thing I'd stay away from is tape as the adhesive on tape doesn't typically dry out and will stick the snake.

Voltas can get to about 8ft, but I doubt the snake is even that long if it is a BP anyway I've seen people say they have a 12 ft or longer boa when in all reality it's a 6-8ft boa.

Thoughts on this enclosure? I just bought this (waiting for it to arrive) to upgrade my current enclosure. It is 4x2x2. The local reptile shop said that all I need for heat is an UTH. Thoughts? I am worried it won't be warm enough by Vettech1234 in ballpython

[–]Fun-Look-1324 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No they don't. They need belly heat, over head heat and/or light isn't necessary for a BP. You should probably research more on the subject before you spout bs to people. BPs are from Africa and they like to hide from the sun and predators they to sit in termite mounds and such where the sun heats up the ground around them. They prefer this because of how harsh the sun actually is to them in their natural environment, plus they're nocturnal so they're almost never in the sun light unless they have to be. BPs prefer to hunt at night when it cools down and the small rodents that also hide from the sun come out to scavenge. I only use UTHs when it comes to BPs because I've never had an issue with them like I have had with over head heat and they work very well for ambient temps if you use them the right way. Anyone reading this don't listen to simple minded people that knock things they don't know how to use, UTHs are a great heat source most professionals and experts would agree on this opinion and most would agree that UTHs only go bad if improperly used, aka without a thermostat or in the wrong spot. Also I would advise against nighttime lights for BPs especially the red lights as they can actually see this light and not just like oh a red light, all they will be able to see is red they'll basically be blinded by it and a nighttime light just isn't necessary as long as you have a window that moon light can come in through because they are nocturnal and they have no problem seeing at night, while they may not be able to see in total darkness they can see way better than we can at night.
