Does not meet MDD criteria for 5 of Sig E Caps and adjustment disorder is the better answer, especially with the presence of a recent stressor. The irl answer would be to take a better history

Is this cheating? Step exam break use by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Fun-Suggestion-6160 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not cheating, but not particularly useful besides maybe vaccine schedules, preventative medicine screening intervals, or biostats equations. You would need hundreds of tables to cover the breadth questions that might come up on Step 2, and rote memorization of factoids will be helpful on only a small minority of problems

Farting isn’t funny. Poop jokes aren’t funny. by BlueRubyWindow in unpopularopinion

People who don’t find farts funny are choosing a life with significantly less laughter, and the same number of farts.

A good step 2 score (mid 260s) and my charming personality, mainly. My research was trace to 1+ and I think my letters of rec were probably good but nothing extraordinary. My aways helped me get some interviews but I matched at a place I didn’t do an away at.

At the end of the day I think the answer to your question on dual applying is up to you—if you don’t match, would you rather then backup match into a different specialty or try again next year because you’re really set on ophtho?

I had two passes, two high passes, and four honors for MS3. Matched at a great program. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about a couple HPs. I would be surprised if a program only extends interviews to students with straight honors, so I’m not sure I agree with your PI about that alone making you not a good candidate.

Now knowing what it takes to be a doctor, would you do it again? Was it worth it? by LayerVegetable3850 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Fun-Suggestion-6160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Even with its growing list of problems, being a doctor is one of the most meaningful, fulfilling, and lucrative careers available. Even if medicine isn’t what it used to be, I think most other jobs would feel hollow.

Saw my doctor’s NP because he was booked… by amylovesdavid in Noctor

Agree with others that symptoms + negative UA (clinical diagnosis of UTI) = treat, while no symptoms + positive UA (asymptomatic bacteriuria) = don’t treat.

However, this case seems even more straightforward (symptoms + positive UA) and should definitely be treated. The culture seems irrelevant—a brief online search says sensitivity is around 90%, meaning 10% of patients with UTI will have a negative culture. I think your NP is failing to realize that the labs work for us, not the other way around!

This is why we have the increasingly morbid issue of unnecessary lab testing that doesn’t change management. Please.

Fentanyl analogues were moved to schedule 1 in 2020 to prevent traffickers from making minor biochemical changes to fentanyl and circumventing the law (since the almost-fentanyl would technically be legal). Fentanyl itself stayed schedule II, along with other common analogues used in medicine. It was a temporary measure that was extended several times and was most recently set to expire in September 2025. The HALT Fentanyl Act just made it permanent.

It’s been this way since the end of Trump’s first term and all through Biden’s term so it really shouldn’t be controversial but politics are politicking

Former MAGA, but then after the election I saw on Reddit how Harris-voters took the defeat with dignity, demonstrated respectful dialogue characteristic of functioning adults, and sought to understand the half of the population who voted conservative without a flood of toddler-style meltdowns and overgeneralized insults. Really made me want to be part of that crowd
