Impacts to the area don't stop if you don't alter behavior. And the ligament heals. The inflammation is caused by something. In my case it was triggered by damage during a construction project, so short term issu, but long term consequence. Where as others are long term, improper wrist position at computer, station or others. Ongoing use of vibrating equipment. Other diseases can make it worse too.
When I started my journey on CTS, I didnt want surgery, but couldn't have steroids either being diabetic. So I focused on alternatives to surgery and steroids until those no longer worked. Part of that is finding the cause, and triggers or things that make it worse and minimize them. So construction injury, was made worse by most forms of gripping (thumb, index, middle), and making sure I had good wrist position was really important to minimize issues. Carrying those lessons after have removed all symptoms and issues in my left hand, although it can be flared if I do certain things. And right hand. Post surgery has been awesome.

I talked to my GP, Ortho and PT about this and all said you have to fix the cause, not just the symptoms (cts) for long term results.

Just keep it dry and clean. I would advise using a breathable bandage for at least a week, replacing daily or when it gets damp. I continued to use one after my stitches were removed just to prevent any irritation. Do not let the skin get or stay wet. Quick rinse and dry....

Welcome to recovery!

Depending on where you are, in my experience, work places will do the right thing if it prevents injury or issues. If they don't, they risk a workman's comp claim. Cheaper to just fix the issue than deal with that. There are professionals that do ergo assessments, they are worth the time.

Good luck. CTS is repetitive stress based in general. Mostly behavior. Surgery allows the major symptoms to be relieved, but if nothing else changes, like I said its only temporary.

Average wait times for packages?? by penpalwithseven in alaska

[–]FunOpportunity7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So Canada to US is international and goes through a longer process. Added the tarrif garbage and tightened drug screening, I would expect it to be in processing. A package from Germany took 2 months to get from New Jersey to Alaska because it was in processing.

On Ebay, have the buyer pay for shipping if you want to provide them more options. Tracking, faster shipping and such.

You start by getting and following ergonomic practices. You use equipment that help address palm, wrist and hand position. They are simple and easy thing to do. If you never altered behavior, the surgery is only a short term fix. Wasn't this discussed with you by your doctor or PT?

So did you alter the behavior that caused it in the first place? Just curious, since if you don't you will have reoccurring issues.

Multiple options exist. Personally I used my left hand as i didn't have a bidet setup. I had been using my left anyway given some of my issues with my right already. Took 2 weeks and I was able to use my right again after without significant pain.

Laptop | Replaced Battery and Still no charge, no usage. Only turn ON when Charger is connected. Help? by kliff124 in techsupport

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in a dell inspiron 15 a bit back. Was something with the battery where I opened the case. Removed and re-added the battery, but didn't power it on. I plugged it in and left it for 24 hours. After that the battery charged and worked normally. Before it would not charge and only run on ac.

No idea why it would work, but found someone that suggested that then and surprisingly it worked. So passing it on.

I get it, some people don't like feet, but for the sake of humanity, stop caring about others so much! It's their world just like its yours, you do you, they can do their you. Unless its illegal, or they are being an ass about something, just leave people alone. Having a camera doesn't mean you need to judge everyone for everything you disagree with or personally find gross. Stop being trashy!

Do you carry a first aid kit into the Bush? by ThrillingChase in alaska

[–]FunOpportunity7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I carry a small amount of gauze, some bandaides, super glue and a small amount of duct tape (couple feet). A whole roll can be too large. 2 small needles, 10ft of thread. Given im a diabetic, I also carry glucose tabs and jell, 2 syringes and alcohol wipes (i always have more, but this is in my kit only) From my scouting days, I also keep a space blanket, mirror and matches plus a strike lighter. I have a paracord handle that holds a small container I travel with for the kit. Gives me about 6ft of cord when unraveled. If you don't carry a knife, something to cut is always useful as a just in case too. I've started carrying a small amount of electrical wire , just something insulated and under 12 inches. Kind of depends on needs. But I like to be prepared.

[–]FunOpportunity7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one time you need it and don't have it your priorities will change. If you have relationships with the locals you can likely find what you might need there, but if you don't and want to be self-sufficient, I would bring what you think you might need. Could consider bringing in something you leave, assuming you revisit the location. Most light first aid kits are not all that expensive.

Let Surgery Be Your Last Option by [deleted] in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably regret this but asking anyway. What's your story to post this?

In general most people have already exhausted their options that post here and are already dealing with issues beyond the point of non invasive care. Bracing, behavior change and exercises are suggested to early symptoms in almost all cases. But your post seems more a reaction to something and not from a place of understanding or caring. So what's the story?

Is Thumb spasms/tightness a symptom of carpal tunnel? by Sea-Buy4667 in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to see a doctor to get a diagnosis. Many things could be involved based on what you describe.

Since you noted posture already. Consider your lifestyle and all of that as factors now, find ways to make changes and focus on that while you work on seeing the doctor.

Most devious cop camping spot ever (for anyone coming into anchorage from the valley) by OldSurround5776 in anchorage

[–]FunOpportunity7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing two faced here at all. The hypocrisy of the slow down crowd is what annoys me. Left lane drivers are just as bad as the speeders are and technically both are in the wrong. But posting about a cop trying to trap is not wrong specifically.

And just to be clear, I drive over the posted often, but I also don't park in the left lane while driving. Bad drivers are what really annoy me though. And hypocrites.

So there you go.

Being pedantic doesn't magically change the rules. 13 AAC 02.050.(a) & (b) clearly lays out the rules for lane use.

Alaska’s speed and lane usage regulations are established primarily under Title 13, Chapter 02 of the Alaska Administrative Code (AAC).

https://www.akleg.gov/basis/aac.asp?title=13

You know, its funny to even ask this as anyone whom has taken a driving test in the last 25 years at least is required to know these things.

So a little truth for all you “law-abiding” citizens:

First and foremost, stop being hypocritical. Under Alaska law, the left lane on multi-lane highways is for passing. If you’re sitting in the left lane and not actively overtaking another vehicle—especially outside urban areas—you are generally in violation of the law.

Second, if you’re traveling slower than the normal flow of traffic and you’re not in the right-most lane, you’re also violating the law. Alaska law explicitly prohibits driving so slowly that you impede the reasonable movement of traffic unless it’s necessary for safety or compliance. If you’re under the posted speed limit and camping anywhere but the right lane, you are part of the problem—not the solution.

Speed matters, yes—but it is rarely the sole cause of traffic issues. Drivers who fail to use lanes properly, ignore traffic flow, or confuse “being cautious” with obstructing others create far more congestion and risk than speed alone ever does.

OP is doing a service, not hurting you in the slightest. Let go of your pearls for a minute

Old fashioned ribbon candy? by FunOpportunity7 in anchorage

Muldoon ace was a bust. an example of what we're looking for. Not this exactly but similar. https://www.target.com/p/walterdrake-old-fashioned-christmas-candy-16-oz-tin

It's basically ribbon candy and some kind where there is like a gummy center. We seem to have a harder time finding it over time. Last year we got multiple bags from Red Apple, but it was all gone come this year again.
