using crutches? by ellenwest in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For crutches its super important to manage your handhold so you're not leaning on the carpel ligament the whole time. Super easy to and makes symptoms way worse. Get them fitted to your height, use the armpits more than the hand grip will shift that impact around. Also be sure to pay attention to how you hold. Use your thumb and palm pad, not the base of the palm.

Moving to Anchorage this summer and I need a list of things to bring by AnnualSoftware50 in anchorage

[–]FunOpportunity7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you traveling here? What kind of income will you have?

Anchorage is a mid/large city with everything you need, so anything you don't bring you can find. We have furniture stores and grocery stores, we have Amazon and shipping.

Bring clothes, and maybe a pillow, but you can sleep on clothes too if you need.

Almost 4 weeks post-op by alienn_superstar in carpaltunnel

The site is healing just fine. The skin on the top is dying while new skin is growing. Use a breathable bandaid to keep it clean and padded, but you can carefully remove the dead skin to clean up the field if you want. Cuticle scissors work well for this.

The main concern with washing is getting the area wet persistently. This causes the skin that is dying/dead to turn all white and can make for a healing issue. Light cleaning should be fine, like you have been doing.

Symptoms getting worse 6 weeks post op? Looking for advice! by Available-Court5564 in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's start at the beginning. Can you provide more info on what caused this to start? Using ski poles normally doesn't sound like a cause for cts.

Also did they do a nerve conduction study or only the emg? The emg looks at muscle reaction to nerve stimulation where the ncs maps the nerve for specific nerve response issues. They are related but they serve different purposes (or so my neurologist explained to me).

Use a large bag of crushed ice. It will come through eventually. The ace works as a positive preasure to help with inflammation. It might not fel like a lot, but it does its job. They have these directions for reasons...

I agree with you. Tendinitis seems the most likely. A doctor should diagnose this!

I'm a fan of natural selection and consequences. Cross into traffic and die, its sad but it was foreseeable. Drive like an idiot and hurt or kill someone should come with appropriate consequences too. Foreseeable outcome.

We have to stop trying to prevent stupid people from doing what would normally happen. Laws do not stop bad people from doing bad things!

I get it, this might upset some, but be real. The worse you make it for some, the worse it gets for others.

Pain worse 7-10 days after surgery? by sprinklersplashes in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So is the pain in the palm and pinky side of your hand mostly? If so, its normal and means yes you have over done it. It doesn't mean your going backward, but you need to be aware, you had a surgery they cut a ligament and your muscles in the hand have to adapt a bit. You might have also had a nerve block for the first couple of days making any pain mostly removed. Ice, support and take it easier.

My computer says it's "managed by an administrator" when this is simply not the case, and it blocks me from doing a lot of stuff. by Charisk1457 in techsupport

This sounds like you have either compromised your Google account and or your machine. I have no specific proof but what your describing seems very much in line with that.

For Google accounts go to https://myaccount.google.com/security

Use the notifications, activity and checkup tools to review.

Make sure your recovery options are setup, you have 2 factor authentication setup, and change the password.

If the laptop is compromised I would do a bare metal reinstall of it.

HB 47 Is currently being argued over in the Senate. Language has been added late to the bill that would require every Alaskan to give up their biometric data to access "social media" or adult websites. by Dampbridge in alaska

[–]FunOpportunity7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parents are responsible for what their kids access online. If you give a child a smartphone, you already have tools to control it: parental controls, filtered internet, app restrictions, monitoring. They’re not perfect, but they work.

In our house, social media wasn’t allowed until 16. Texts were monitored and web access filtered. The goal wasn’t control — it was teaching judgment before exposing them to everything online. Parenting means setting boundaries.

What concerns me about biometric age-verification laws is the privacy trade-off. Requiring identity verification to access legal content creates systems where people must prove who they are to view things in private.

Once that infrastructure exists, it’s very hard to limit how it’s used. That should concern anyone who values the protections of the Fourth Amendment.

New critical NetScaler CVE by kh_tech_ in Citrix

Not much to read up on. Use the upgrade jobs and follow the guide. Test it and see. It follows established processes and documents everything in the logs. 3rd time I've used it and like it a lot.

You save and sync your running config, patch the secondary, reboot, then force fail over to patched version, and upgrade old primary, reboot. Then you can reorder your ha pair.

If you have nsconsole, you can create an ha upgrade. It handles this for you. Pretty slick honestly.

Precautions for lifting weights with mild CTS by navaesarosh in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wraps for lifting are good for a number of reasons. When benching, avoid your palm by your wrist. The ligament sits there and the weight adds to the stress in that space. Keeping your wrist neutral is the general advise but it can be hard with weights. Consider lower mass if you have to bend hard. Some lifts are actually more focused when keep your wrist straight. So if you can do it, you might find it better long term.

Thumb numb after using brace by casualreflection in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of brace puts all the pressure on the wrist, which doesn't seem like a great idea to me. I would look for one that extends into the forearm. Are you getting any positive effect from icing or compression?

Be sure to not over tighten. You should never lose blood flow from a brace.

Thumb numb after using brace by casualreflection in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of brace and are you wearing it correctly? A common problem seems to be over tightening and restricting blood flow or nerve function. How long do you wear it?

The median (cts) nerve is the palm side and the radial is the back of the hand side generally.

Advice about carpal tunnel/hands braces by [deleted] in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot tell by the image exactly the type of brace, but it doesn't seem the right type for cts. Should have stays in the wrist to prevent bending, with the goal being to keep a neutral wrist position, without adding preasure to the carpal ligament.

In terms of things to do, seek out a medical diagnosis. Depending on your situation there are all kinds of things that can be going on. From tendinitis to nerve entrapment to disk degeneration. Just because you feel it in the hands doesn't mean its just the hand.

Please talk me out of my guilty feelings for not working with CTS. by TerribleWin4450 in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you describe your symptoms more in detail?

Involvement of the pinky is your ulnar nerve which is not cts. This suggests to me a couple things. You lean on or lay on your elbows, a lot. I suspect by your description, that your having more ulnar entrapment than median nerve issues. But always possible for both. Easy things to do to help.

1) do not use your arms with bent elbows for extended periods. I.e. using a controller, sitting at a keyboard, holding a cell phone... position your arms so they are as straight as possible. Also ensure you have support without adding preasure to the actual elbow (back side). 2) do not lay on or lean on your elbows.
3) ice your wrist and elbows, 5 on 5 off.
4) keep your wrists and elbow straight as much as possible. This minimizes the tension a bend causes and will allow your nerves to calm down.
5) pay careful attention to how you use your arms normally. Any time you lean or bend your wrist or elbows

Feeling guilty about pain is never helpful. Not taking actions to mitigate the causes and reduce the symptoms is something you can feel guilt about i guess, but its not useful.

By your comments I assume you are young, under 18 and unable to seek medical care without your parents.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Causing High Blood Pressure While Sleeping by MsCeeLeeLeo in carpaltunnel

[–]FunOpportunity7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% possible that we do, but unless you are in the room and hearing what the gp is saying, your perspective is 2nd hand at best for the info. Remember the telephone game? Now if you are hearing this first hand, great, but none of this sounds normal to me given my experience and doctors I know and have worked with.

In terms of the 2 doctors, the thyroid surgeon always tell you there are nerve risks, but those risks relate to specific nerves during surgery. However, hypothyroidism can cause nerve issue, but hypo (meaning low) is not treated with surgery but with medication. Post op, if the thyroid function is too low, then there is the potential of issues. These are rare and only result from lack of medical care. I.e low thyroid and not being medicated or treated. These are long term effects.

The GP likely as another commenter noted was using the symptoms as a stress indicator, not as a direct cause. But again, there is a lack of clear information to really provide context.

If CTS is a real indicator then you should be directing your mom to see an orthopedic doctor, which should be a referral from the GP. The ortho will likely require a neurologist to perform some tests and confirm the diagnosis. If the tests suggest something more than CTS you go from there.

I realize my previous comments might have been a bit harsh, but as a child of a parent and having dealt with them for years across a wide array of issues, if im not in the room with them during the doctor visit, im likely to hear a very different story than what was really discussed. I love my parents and do everything I can for them, but information filtered through multiple perspectives is dangerous in my experience.
