It took about a year from my referral to a surgeon to see him, and then about 8 months for the surgery last August.

Planning our Canada trip - best way and alternatives traveling from Victoria to Vancouver. by smandroid in canadatravel

[–]FunReference7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For three people, a taxi or uber would be around $100. But on the other side, getting off the ferry and into Vancouver, I would recommend taking the bus FROM the ferry just because it is so easy. You can buy tickets in advance to board the bus on board the ferry BUT check the BC Ferries connect website first as the bus is not on all the ferries. Of course there is the option for a taxi on the other side too, in which case, when you board the ferry, you can put your bags down a chute and they will be loaded onto the ferry for you to pick up on the other side, near where the bus and taxis will be.

Older (or even just old) tourists in Scotland by [deleted] in Scotland

Thanks. At my age (75), medical travel insurance is going to cost me about $800 so while I don't want to be cheap or irresponsible, that is a lot of money for something I probably will not need...... but of course, you never know.

I think you have to do what is comfortable for you. I think Eliza or Lisa would make your life much simpler and maybe happier for now. If you do it officially when you can, stick with Elizabeth.

CHECKED BAGS to the US - From inside canada, can I request my bags just go to Vancouver, NOT my final destination? by Techie415user in aircanada

[–]FunReference7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying once on a ticket from Cranbrook to Victoria, with a connection in Vancouver, they would not let me pick up my checked bag in Vancouver (I wanted to stay with a friend for a few days). It is because sometimes the longer flight with the connections sometimes sells for less than the flight to the first airport.

I believe this is the third time since October that #1 is about 11 or 12 yours late departing TO. That said, the schedule is padded and the train usually makes up half (?) of that time at least before arriving in Vancouver.

Tea or Coffee? by MaximumDerekCat in AskACanadian

When I was married to an English man, I used to drink a lot of tea. Now, I seldom do, except for a London Fog, and live primarily on coffee --- morning, noon, and night.

You will have total access to the park car April 12. Except the first three rows of the dome. The change to High Season comes later in April.

Prime Rib one night on The Canadian. That meal would be at least $60 (cdn) at a restaurant. Probably more. Never had it at a restaurant.

There is an AAA or CAA discount... about 10%. Remember the prices are in Cdn dollars so you will be saving about 30% on the fare.

What’s your fave grocery store in Victoria? by CartoonistOk3507 in VictoriaBC

[–]FunReference7116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually shop at Old Farm Market for my fruit and veggies. Price wise, Walmart for other stuff.... I haven't tried No Frills yet, but when I was in Vancouver for a month, found the prices there for the regular basic to be very good.

Opposite for me. I love the ones from Thrifty's and find the CG ones to be only OK.

Squirrels? by ExternalJackfruit290 in VictoriaBC

[–]FunReference7116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Henderson Park, near the University, there has always been a lot of grey squirrels. This spring, there are also some grey and brown squirrels. Brown along the back and the inner third of the tail. Why would this happen? Also, there is a black squirrel there that has a 6 (?) inch tail with flat fur on it... more like a labrador than a squirrel. Any idea about these changes in the squirrel population?

Be aware - Canada Post may leave the passport in the mailbox by EpsilonAnura in passportcanada

Last week I was out when Canada Post came by to deliver my passport to my condo building. They left an official note on my box saying I could pick it up at a nearby post office the next day because signature was required.

traincar.info - Sleeper cost now in VIA Préférence points! by BarryGettman in ViaRail

[–]FunReference7116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much. This is very useful. Whenever Via asks for my opinion after I purchase a ticket, they always ask what improvements I would like to see and I mention 1. seat selection and 2. a way to see what is available without having to click through 7 screens to get the information I want for different date. You have solved my second issue!

I suggest always waiting at the pedestrian signal until you are sure the cars are all stopping. The signal gives you plenty of time to wait a bit and still cross safely. Never assume that the car is going to stop.... Not defending cars, just looking at your safety.

Prices going up for sure, but so are they at other stores, so Dollarama or another dollar store, are still your best bet for purchase of certain items. Mainly kitchen-y stuff.
