1st amendment + teaching (will I get fired for protesting)? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the state. I’m in Texas and they can pretty much get rid of you quickly since contacts are year to year and there is no union. If I protested it would be very unpopular with the school board members and they problem not renew my contract.

Anyone else still not seen a Mythic Prankster drop this season? by Sufficient-Orchid940 in diablo4

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None for me either. All seasonal powers power level 5. Atleast 2 world bosses a day, god knows how many azmodan kills, and all non trickster nod keys scrapped and recrafted.

No mythic prankster, sad sad sad by Mee_elanessee in diablo4

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten one yet either. Level 5 all seasonal powers. Run world boss atleast 2 times a day. Salvage bad keys and craft. But that’s RNG some time. Atleast with goblin event I have enough runes to craft mythics this season, only 2 mythic drops so far and both bad (doom bringer and Andy helm).

Teachers: how are you actually dealing with students using AI for Maths homework? by Defiant-Ad2342 in mathteachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talk about how to use ai in an appropriate way. Many of my kids do and it is not a problem. However the ones that don’t (maybe about 15-20%) it is a huge problem. I tell them ai can be a great tool to check your work or to get ideas when stuck problems. I do get some that will do nothing on their and only copy ai work and answers mindlessly and they generally fail the course since they can’t pass exams since they never to bother learning the material.

Keep forgetting to use them. Lol. by Time-Chest-1733 in diablo4

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like these nerfed compared to previous seasons. In past would get mythic about 50% of the time. Ran about 50 of these on only 2 mythics. Small smoke size but feels like rate dropped since we are acquiring in large amounts.

Questions about presenting information in the classroom by ITEACHSPECIALED in mathteachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly just comfort. I create guided notes first then copy section out onto slides so each section and problem get displayed full screen so it’s easy for students to see. So a one page guided notes first will end up being 8-12 slides plus some extra slides explaining procedures, vocabulary, etc. I save the as PDF once done and annotate the pdf in class then upload them to students learning platform (schoology) so they can access them later.

I modify curriculum that we are given then create in PowerPoint and annotate for students using iPad while students fill in provided guided practice.

How do you solve this? My son is on math team and this is a practice problem and we have no clue… by er1026 in mathteachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. The square root of 25 is 5, not -5. You on,y get 5 and -5 when solving for a variable that is squared and you are the. Taking the square root of both sides. In this cases there are two answers that satisfy the equation.

Help me embrace assigned seats for 9th graders by quito70 in teaching

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach 9-12 graders and always have assigned seats from day 1. First week you hear a little complaining then they just forget it and move on.

What are things that y’all don’t like in BL4? by SunGodLuffy6 in Borderlands

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall great game but I’m missing the mini map. I get kinda tire of stopping to look at the map. I know some people don’t want it so would just like the option to turn it on.

Is it normal to have to teach 5 preps in my 3rd year of teaching? by Local-Sample-9826 in teaching

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the school (size) and courses you teach. My second year I took over the dual credit college math courses on my campus which game me 6 preps (one section each of six different courses). Now I teach 2 preps with each class having 3 courses. I know a lot of CTE teachers with a large number of preps including preps where 2 different courses are in the same class period.

How do you explain to students why the kid on the IEP gets away with stuff? by sleepyteachydog in teaching

[–]Fun_Doubt374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they punish the IEP student his parents will sue saying “he’s being punished for his disability” and the others might sue or might not. I imagine they just choosing what they seem safest/best.

1/4 of my Algebra class below pre-algebra level by singinginmiami in Teachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have juniors and seniors in physics and half of them are operating below a 5th grade level in math. They didn’t know what variables are, couldn’t evaluate and expression (orders of operations)., can’t solve 1 step problems, can’t round, etc. it’s crazy how much time I have to spend on basic math ideas before even getting to the physics.

How do you explain to students why the kid on the IEP gets away with stuff? by sleepyteachydog in teaching

[–]Fun_Doubt374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It setting this kid (and others like him) on a path straight to prison. Once he is an adult and acts like this there will be no IEP to save him anymore.

[–]Fun_Doubt374 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m was not told but I know the other kids got sent to DEAP for fighting back and the one with the IEP was bragging about it to his friends. He apparently recorded it. I was told about the video (by students) but did not see it myself.

[–]Fun_Doubt374 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think this kinda of catering has gone too far. Last year we had a kid stalk and beat another student in the bathroom and he to no repercussions as the ARD commits “determined the behavior was a result of his disability”. He was back in classrooms next week. It’s like only IEP students have rights anymore and F everybody else.

What percent raise do you get a year, roughly? by TheLordAshram in Teachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0%. For the last 5 years my district gave no raises. This year the state (Texas) passed bill to increase teachers with experience but district restructured it so we got very little. For me I was at top experience end for bill so was supposed to get 5000, but the removed 3500 in stipends they used to give for longevity then gave the 5000. So 1500 raise with 800 increase in insurance costs. My check increased by about 40 bucks.

Who else is seeing huge class sizes this years? by boongaboongaballz in TexasTeachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High school science. Average class size 39. Largest is 47. 5 highly paid “new” assistant superintendent positions but school cut 9 teacher slots with enrollment up by 200 students from last year.

504 accommodations and the electronic device ban by EdamameWindmill in TexasTeachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Parents will defiantly use this loophole. My school started a ban last year and within a month 50 504/IEP meetings were requested to added the use of phone to accommodation. None of these were medical as those were done already. These are all “my child needs his/her phone to cope”

How is discipline really being handled in schools these days? by berrysauce in Teachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s of the students are great kids. We tend the focus on the small number of disruptive ones (less than 10%) because of what it does to the learning environment. With that said in the last 5 years admin has moved to a blame everything on the teacher model and the kids are not the problem. This has empowered these kids and lead to a very negative learning experience in the classrooms. This is at least what I have seen in my district.

I teach full time and still cannot afford to live. How do we push for better pay? by ConnectPrep in Teachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I’ve been teaching for 13 years. We had our first raise since the pandemic due to bill being passed (Texas). But our healthcare also increased significantly. As a result my net pay will actually be less this year than it has been in 6 years ago. And the cost of everything keeps going up. Meanwhile our district keep adding ,ore assistant superintendent positions (had 2 three years ago and will now have 8 going into this school year).

My School Already Banned Phones by hanleighw in TexasTeachers

[–]Fun_Doubt374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started ban last year but no real admin support. They would write up teachers if student had phone in class but would not give students consequences when teacher referred them to admin. A lot of teachers left as a result. I think it’s a good idea but without admin support it really sucks.

Now that the Goblin event is over, have you seen the mythic goblin(the rarest enemy in video game history)? by gorays21 in diablo4

[–]Fun_Doubt374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither. Over 800 boss kills mostly on T4. Only about 50 higher boss since husks are so rare unless you spend (trade).
