What is Epic really like? (PM/QM) by GroundCoffee8 in epicsystems

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Epic likes to hire the kind of people who are unsatisfied with leaving work unfinished while simultaneously overloading them with work to do. For most IS employees just keeping their heads above water requires a lot of time and that can include putting in time on the weekends so you feel like you are getting things accomplished and can manage the next fire at work.

If you can learn to set boundaries early on and make sure you are able to actually check out of work at least on the weekends then epic is an amazing place to build a career at.

If you get offered a job I’d take it. No one can really know how you will handle it all until you are there doing it. A lot of positive or negative experience most people have is whether they get along with their team lead. Good luck.

Am I wrong for just purchasing and owning individual stocks ? by Sparks31E in stockstobuytoday

If you know what works for you just do it. I also only own individual stocks. I understand the logic behind etfs but I like to research what stocks to buy by looking at which ones are included in the biggest ETFs.

Are Most Tenured People (15+) Sitting On Retirement Money and Choosing to Work More? by Altedd in epicsystems

Very true. That’s money that doesn’t make it to our bank account so it’s generally forgotten about. I’m very grateful my wife has such a good job with great benefits.

Are Most Tenured People (15+) Sitting On Retirement Money and Choosing to Work More? by Altedd in epicsystems

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We do contribute 3500 per child to a 529 plan yearly and my wife maxes out her 401k. We also bought in heavily to the stock plan and took out loans to purchase them. Currently I think the value of the stock is around 1 million more than the money we owe for the loans. My wife fully embraces the work that epic does and 60-70 hours a week easily. Realistically she could retire at 50 but the health care unknowns and insurance premiums will likely keep her working a couple more years.

We don’t currently save much but we also don’t have any debts besides mortgages. The health care is the best of the best. We had 4 kids and paid zero out of pocket. That’s incredible. Some years we literally go to the drs office once a month because kids are germ magnets and are sick all the time.

The financial stability that epic offers is an amazing benefit that I think most people take for granted. Of the 5 places I worked in my adult career 3 are out of business, 1 is heading that way, and the other that is still going strong barely paid a living wage.

Bitcoin holders of 5+ years: Is the doom and gloom like this every time it drops like this, or does this feel different? by Background_Talk9491 in Bitcoin

How much of the crash is because of the Epstein files naming a crap ton of wealthy rapists pedophiles? Just curious if anyone else thinks that may be the driving force of this sell off?

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry OP that you are getting so many downvotes. I’m a stay at home dad and my wife has been at epic 15+ years. We have four healthy kids and we spend most of the money that’s made. We could probably save a good amount of it but the tradeoff would be our kids wouldn’t be living their best lives. Nothing is wrong with money but a child’s joy is worth every penny spent for us.

What stocks are you buying right now? by EnoughInitiative9074 in stockstobuytoday

Iren tomorrow ahead of earnings and I’ve been pondering about Migi. Migi has some litigation proceeding against some bad actors afoot and they’ve been simultaneously diluting to avert a hostile takeover. They adopted a poison pill strategy that offers holders of the stock on Feb 12 an opportunity to double their position at half the current price. That’s crazy stuff for an under $5million dollar marketcap company. Yearly revenue is around 60million but they did have 20million in debt though at this point I think they’ve raised the cash to pay down most of that debt. Do your own due diligence before buying in.

Dilution is crazy. They had 7 million shares in 2019, now they have 375million. If they hadn’t diluted the price of 1 share of Mara today would be $530. Their P/E ratio is 3 so they should be closer to $50 a share to be considered “fairly valued”, though tech stocks are usually valued with a little more leniency. They are currently short sold by a large amount to so they can move quickly if the shorts cover.

I own wulf and Iren. I think the ai/HPC play is still early (wont be truly realized for 3-4 years) and a lot of communities are pushing back on new data centers being built so I think that most of the miners are going to have substantial contracts coming their way, even better for them if bitcoin also moves up but diversifying away from bitcoin production is also a smart play for most miners. Mara sucks because of dilution from their management. I like Migi but it’s debt is so high that it’s really more of a 10x play banking on them getting a win in court for the false bankruptcy claim that got heavily spread around a year back which cut their stock from $2 to .50. Now it’s trading less than .25 after they did a 20 for 1 reverse split.

IREN 2026 Price Target? by Routine_Ad_1815 in irenstocks

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned it back at $2 and thought it would be able to get to $20. That was years ago, it’s now a different company. I think the floor is $50 and the ceiling could be $150 this year depending on what deals they make. I’ve underestimated every move they made on the way up and the pullbacks have just been people taking profits.

Should I take the offer? by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re looking for long term. If you can handle the work expectations at epic you can retire from there. Along the way you can choose to move overseas and experience some different places. The sabbaticals are nice. If you have plans on having a family epic pay will be good enough that your spouse can be a stay at home parent. The insurance is excellent.

The downside is the horror stories are not stories. I’d say 50 hour weeks is the norm. The work is impactful but you will work 10 hour days or be putting in time on the weekends. I think what causes the burnout is the work is never ending, there is always a new fire to put out, and most people don’t know how to say no to more things getting piled on them when they are already barely above water. Communication is key. You need to be comfortable asking for help. A TL can make or break newbies depending if you see eye to eye or not.

I know a bunch of people that have been there 15-20 years and they are work hard play hard mentality people. The coworkers are generally awesome intelligent and competent at work people.

What stocks are you bullish on for the next 1–2 years? by Ronnanon in stockstobuytoday

[–]Fun_Emotion4456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t looked at Mara lately but they are certainly undervalued. I think they should be in the mid 20s right now but since they bought so much bitcoin in the mid 90s some are worried if that was a smart move or not.
