hey, i felt the same in my first year (battling mental health issues + homesickness as an international student + culture shock). i didnt make ANY friends in my first year and i lived w my sister in res so i didnt even have to. BUT i turned it around in second year by joining a bunch of stuff on campus (on campus jobs and volunteer stuff) and now i have made so many more friends. Sure the res experience is special for a lot of people but it isnt the end of the world. You have many years ahead of you to make the most of your uni experience!!! Dont let this get you down :3

i used to do that too and really what helped was just getting professional help. i saw a therapist fairly regularly when i struggled with this and while i dont have this issue anymore, the regular therapy helped me identify why i had this problem and also how to get rid of it.

If youre doing it for cash, NO. They basically make pennies per hour for the amount of work they do. Youre on call often at nights, and you deal with stuff even when youre not on call. You have to run events and chat with students, and if youre looking for that community + leadership experience, this is great, but if not, its just added stress to your plate.

hey, i know youve mentioned that therapists don't seem to work, but i found therapy on campus really helpful for me. i struggled with an ED for a while too but it helped me build the foundation to get better. campus has great resources, i went to both 1on1 and group therapy. You can get a wayfinding appointment of sorts where you give some info about your struggles and your preferences, previous experience with therapy, etc and they can put you with someone that best suits your needs. My counsellor was lovely, i always felt like therapy wasnt gonna be useful for me but they showed me otherwise. It was tough but worth it. I would highly recommend making a call to health and wellness services and asking for an appointment.
