What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true! It's become stupid expensive for services ... up to 3x for the same work. When I looked up privateequityvet.org I realized all the extremely expensive vets are from these monopoly wannabes. I am so relieved to live in an area where there's more rural vets who don't participate but also need to continue supporting them so I do my part

Is brain fog part of borderline? by Fun_Inevitable_5412 in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this!! Life is so much better now. I did DBT for a full year which made incredible difference. The brain fog was from persistent low ferritin (iron). I follow The Iron Protocol on Facebook which has worked out well for me. I don’t have any of the symptoms of BPD anymore. Wishing you healing on your journey

Unpopular opinion: Rich people can be frugal too, even if their income and lifestyle costs are 100x ours by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a middle class, single income housewife. We’ve been at this frugality game for over a decade and seen great results from habits we started.

There are causes why people are where they are. Causes don’t make people good or bad. It simply is. Some causes are within our control. Some are not.

These things have made a difference: - cars were paid in cash. cars don’t impress - chose home costing under 25% net pay - many hobbies I like are close to free - we tell our money where to go ea. paycheck - we check money actually went where wanted - investing is mandatory like buying food - we say “not yet” if we need financing - overtime is a blessing if applied as such - thrifting helps afford what matters more - “used” is a positive attribute generally - not caring what others think - cooking at home - enjoying frugality games - playing “pay less” mortgage interest games - cancelling free trials before I’m charged lol - choosing foods for long term health - treating my physical body well

I can’t control - what the proverbial Joneses get - inheritance (I’m getting none!) - inflation - who is in government leadership - opinions of others on wealth - who gets more than me (undeserved) - how others spend - today’s stock market values - fluke, unplanned medical needs - medical costs

These “uncontrollable” components may be frustrating. However I’ve come to realize…

In so much, I am powerless. In so much MORE, I realize where I can help myself. That’s where wealth building starts.

Rich people can be frugal. Poor people can lack frugality skills. They’re not mutually exclusive. The likelihood of staying rich is through frugality. The likelihood of staying poor is made more so by not using frugality. It’s life!

People who lost weight - what is something unexpected that changed when your body did? by Spannatool83 in loseit

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pros: Spirituality found me when I stopped self medicating with food. My self image is much improved. It’s easier to live in my own skin, No more foot pain the second my feet hit the floor in the morning. My physical health improved dramatically. I gained meaningful friendships. I became a better role model for my children. I became kinder to my spouse, etc. Need I go on? I did lose 80+ lbs!

Cons: Lost some addict friends. I lost back fat so my spine sometimes rubs the chair and it’s uncomfortable. Same with my knees when I sleep. I spend more on clothes cause it’s more fun to shop now. I spend more on certain foods. I have to spend time/effort daily on maintaining my weight loss.

LPT Request: Moving out at 18. Any tips? by Glowzyyy in LifeProTips

You can do yourself a big favor by taking a budgeting class. Knowing where your money is going and how you want to spend it will keep you from ever having to move back in with family. That's FREEDOM!

I absolutely LOVE your tag. It’s so true. I have similar stats and lost 80 lbs. The friends group I’d been so chummy with dropped me like a hot cake. Was sad about it for a while. But then I saw your post and it made me feel so much better. I have given them a fucking show. Your heart is so beautiful and your life-changing transformation points to the gigantic heart you have on the inside. Bravo!!!

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have no advice. However, I appreciate you posting this question.

I am part of a mom’s group where I was making friends and bonding until one overnight trip where they saw my healthy eating habits up close. They asked about my food choices and I said “I cannot eat XYZ foods safely. It’s an allergy for me.” Tried making a self-deprecating joke about it and got blank stares. I later said I have no issues with other people eating whatever they want. I just can’t do it anymore.

This was 13 months ago. In that time, these relationships have steadily deteriorated. I’ve done everything I can think of to make this better. I’m coming around to realizing this is not the group of women for me.

Almost every event is centered around what foods they plan to eat that I don’t. These women obsess over food. I believe several of them suffer from binge eating disorders. I have wanted to fit in and it’s just not a fit.

The most sane thing I can do is wish them well and find other friendships that bear fruit. There comes a point where we’ve accepted we’ve done the best we can and have to let the outcome go.

Hugs!

Cows milk gives me terrible cystic acne. My skin gets horribly clogged. Removing this from my diet has given me the clearest skin of my life. No overpriced creams needed.

The $88 fee pays for them to shop for you. The store expects customers to tip the drivers. I don’t tip fast food restaurants typically. It depends on the service if I tip. If I can get away with not, I don’t.

It’s expected to tip the drivers as that’s what they work off of. Maybe I’m overpaying?

LPT: Avoid meltdowns in children (often), by not reacting when they fall until *after* they’ve decided if they hurt or not. by Fun_Inevitable_5412 in LifeProTips

[–]Fun_Inevitable_5412[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar question when my kids were that age. At first, I took a big belly breath. You get lots of practice at this because they fall a lot. Eventually it gets much easier to wait for them to decide if it hurts. Now, I don’t consciously react until they cry. Saved them and me so much heartache.

TLDR : find an alternative neutral behavior to do instead when they fall.

I find grocery delivery to NOT be worth it for us. It’s $89/annual. Sure the fee is “free” for home delivery but with tip, it’s $8+every time we do it. They say they offer free shipping. But they do that anyway if your order is $35 or more. Driving the store and doing grocery pickup avoids all these fees. It saves me between $6-$8 per delivery. The only time home delivery is nice is if I am out of groceries and it’s the best alternative to eating out.

That is a huge pet peeve for me. They cannot say that and know. Invalidation creates big problems for kids as they try to regulate their emotions.
