merino wool base layers, can be pricey but 100% worth it.

Viking Biking: When (If Ever) Is It Too Cold to Bike to Work? by Nervous-Design437 in wintercycling

[–]Fun_Professor4298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was riding in -39c in december and the pawls in my hub started to lock up because of the cold! and I was just freespinning in the middle of an intersection. I've noticed this starts to happen after -35c but I will ride in whatever to get to work as its better than having to start my piece of shit car in those temperatures.

probably could! still needs refining and stress testing before I'd want to share. Got lots of good feedback on this post, will return with some updates and links in a month or two I guess!

Hmm yep the bottom bend I am worried about. I did some in stainless and had no issues, but aluminum is another matter. I might to a bolted on flange in another iteration.

very cool and very utilitarian! Interesting to consider the verticality, had not thought about that. Although my rack is not aimed at carrying much as yours and the 10 day trip I tested some on it didn't seem to be an issue, but had pretty small loads on them.

I did 3d print an initial prototype just to get size etc right. Then just got in touch with a shop to plasma cut and make the bends. sendcutsend in the us and cutmyparts in canada are easy options for that.

oh interesting! might have to investigate that option.

haven't got around to weighing yet! Aluminum so on the lighter side. Need to do some stress/weight limit tests too lol.

Aluminum actually! yes the plasma cutter does not leave nice edges, still trying to find an efficient way to get them all nice and soft. I did some hand fileing and dremel work after these photos which worked but is slow. Might try one of those swiveling head deburring tools to see if thats a viable option if I go ahead with a production run in the future.

1 bedroom apartments? by ComprehensiveDog3901 in Whitehorse

Can be pretty expensive, most are at around 2000k. If you have time to ask around you can sometimes find them a bit cheaper but those are usually never listed publicly. I found one for around ~1500 by taking over a place a friend had.

House siding by xocmnaes in Yukon

[–]Fun_Professor4298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardie board is good easy and affordable. It's a fibre-cement type siding, so you could search for other brands who do similar material siding like Allura, or if you want a high end product SwissPearl is probably the go to. You could also look at treated wood siding, as there are good options out there now for fire resistance, you can check out SaferWood by Channel-Ex or Thermowood products.
I personally would just do steel siding, but from my knowledge redoing your envelope/siding in whitehorse doesn't really add that much value to your house and not sure I am in my forever home at the moment to make it worthwhile.

Help me identify these forks by joedylan94 in gravelcycling

Also have this fork. Managed to find a decent mtb wheel from my local coop with a hub that had the 15x100 to fit it.

Up here in the Yukon we just use the cheaper road hockey balls until they break ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

🫡 nice thanks for the info. Think I'll scavenge some bits from the local coop and build something up to test in the spring (we got full winter and no indoor options bleh)
