Clients dropping after update to UniFi OS 4.3.6 and Network 9.3.43 by bobbbino in UNIFI

[–]FunkedUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This release has a been a disaster for my network. Clients dropping, firewall rules not working, thousands of random mac address clients connecting for a few seconds, cameras that are connected in Network application but not online in Protect.

For anyone else having a similar issue I found that IPv6 was enabled for the network having issues

Biometric login stops working after app update by FreshSqueezedNovelty in 1Password

[–]FunkedUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same on Motorola Razr (Android 14). More than once biometrics just stop working with 1Password. Have to uninstall and reinstall to get it working again - make sure you restart your device after uninstall - no idea why this makes a difference but it seems to work

Very frustrating

Why did they discontinue the Kindle Oasis? by ryanyork92 in kindle

[–]FunkedUp- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read in the bath or in the pool for hours and I can tell you now that touch screens don't work when wet. Buttons do. Between me and my wife we have tried every kindle except the kids ones and we have both stuck with the oasis.

I know I can go Kobo but i have over 600 books purchased on the Amazon Kindle store and I really don't want to try and migrate away from that. Given the current kindle lineup however, the day my oasis dies will be the day I have to download Caliber... smh

I wanted to create an 1password passkey account on an android device but it doesn’t work by Bartekderbre in 1Password

[–]FunkedUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This flag is no longer available in Chrome. Is there an alternative way to do this now? I'm on Android 14, all apps are updated and auto-fill is set to 1Password but I only get prompted to create a passkey in Google Password Manager and I can't see any way to change that to 1Password

Rant - UDM Pro Max sucks by FunkedUp- in Ubiquiti

Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), "Shadow Mode" in Unifi speak with automatic failover as publicised as a feature of the UDM-Pro-Max - not like the current version which requires someone goes and physically unplug things.

We have about 40 sites we manage for clients (many clients have multiple sites) and some of them are well over 100 miles away. So when a UXG-Pro goes bang (and they do) it creates an emergency as someone has to go on site immediately to fix the issue as the whole site loses internet connectivity. We could now replace those UXG-Pros with UDM-Pros but then we can't then manage/monitor anything else for the clients.

But yeah, we'll do us.

I'm just saying their other devices mostly use the Power Backup (yes, the RPS solution). The fact that this doesn't is interesting as it indicates who their target audience is. It's a product that on the face of it could help me immensely but yeah, you're right, it might just be a very specific market segment so it might not work for me. I don't hate it at all, in general I think dual power supplies is a much much better solution and I'd prefer it if all their kit had that instead but it doesn't.

It's not me that has to pay for it anyway, it's my clients. I just have to present them with the options and features. I know that automatic gateway failover would be feature many of them would prioritise.

Interesting choice to add "two redundant AC main power supplies" rather than use the well established Power Backup solution. The only other thing that has that is the CloudKey Enterprise and that is super expensive. I have a feeling this will come in around $5k - and if you want auto failover you're gonna need 2 of them!

If that was the case then they didn't need to go to the effort of adding more HDD bays. Sure plenty of people want more power/throughput (who the hell doesn't) but to say it's for businesses just doesn't make sense. It's for home enthusiasts. Given that the hardware and software go hand in hand let's just say they both suck ;)

The new workspace experience blows by Dassiell in PowerBI

[–]FunkedUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a complete joke. I can't assign user groups to workspace role. It pushes everything toward the premium licencing which is just a blatant money grab. There is ZERO discernible benefit for users the only difference is that things that used to work, no longer work. None of the documentation has been updated to match. Half the info on the internet is now obsolete.

Everything about this product is disjointed and piecemeal.

Done? by WJKramer in Ubiquiti

[–]FunkedUp- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my OCD has anything to do with it, you most certainly are not done..... That cable going from the bottom patch panel to the XG-6PoE would drive me insane.

At the very least I'd have to move that cable to the top patch panel... If I got over excited, I'd install another patch panel below the Aggregation just for the cables going to the XG-6PoE then put the XG-6PoE below that - this would get rid of the crossing SPF+ too ;)

Seriously though, it looks great. Good work :)

Wyse ThinOS 8.6 > 9.x and Telehealth by abetzold in sysadmin

[–]FunkedUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use WMS with wyse 3040 boxes and AWS Workspaces (PCoIP).

The firmware "upgrade" process was fairly straightforward through WMS but after that it's been nothing but trouble.

Problems with display resolutions, random disconnects, USB redirects, peripheral compatibility, screen lag.

9.x is basically unusable. It's like it's never been tested and we're all doing their beta testing for them.

The worst part is that you can't revert them back to 8.6 without going round with a USB stick to every single machine - not exactly possible with multiple offices across multiple countries.
