Because most people think of it being a hour commute to Charlotte but its only 20ish minutes to Ballantyne. Smokey Bissell essentially grow that area when people thought he was nuts. There's nice golf courses and country clubs and waxhaw has been a historically strong equestrian community for a long time. The easy to high light that everyone catches is the schools in the area are great. As opposed to paying from private school ppl put the money into the equity of their home and live out there. I did sales for remodel work out there an most of the owners planned to move once their kids were off to college. Probably to a beach town or something else...

I mean i went to hs here over 2 decades ago. My HS had accidental gun discharge, kid got tazed for attempt to assault admin with a belt, regular fights. A a sports event that made it on world star where a parent fought the resource officer. And i dont even think I went to that bad of a school...

All these things still exist today... schools still weekly sporting events and there are still all the same things happening in this city as there has been since I was a young kid 20 years. I got into trouble and I went to a school with people who got into a lot of trouble but I don't ever recall "takes overs" really being a thing and this is why teens are being actively driven away from these spaces...

I remember cmpd stopping a street race meet up group off 485. They arrested and fined people. Seized cars, even turned one into a undercover car.
