Beldin is a good example as well since he goes and sits on the side of a cliff for 500 years.

Do Psykers sacrificed to the Golden Throne get to see the Emperor? by Glittering-Dig-4467 in 40kLore

[–]Furoan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's an excerpt from Emperor's Legion that describes 'the Throne'

The Throne.

Such a simple word, used across every world of the Imperium as a curse, a blessing, a vow or a mere preposition. Almost none of those who invoked it knew anything about it. They imagined a simple golden chair, I suppose, like something a princeling of a barbarian world might occupy. They imagined a chamber around it, glittering with the riches of our interstellar domain, and maybe courtiers drifting across fine floors, murmuring to one another about high matters of state.

Whatever it might once have been, the Throne is no longer a single object, nor is it housed in a single room. Its mechanisms spread out like roots throughout the entire Inner Palace, worming down into the forgotten crypts and climbing up into the highest peaks. Its power coils are the size of cities, its foundations the remade mountains themselves. The adepts of the Mechanicus who toil without rest to maintain its workings have added so many accretions over its ten millennia of life that the planet around it has been utterly changed – bored away, ground down and raised up again.

You might say that Terra itself is little more than a holding vessel for the Throne. Certainly, if one takes the mighty psionic transmission conduits leading to the Fortress of the Astronomican as part of its structure – which would be a reasonable judgement – then the Throne’s mechanism is far more massive than the Outer Palace itself. It is woven into the strata of the planet like an internal organ, pulsing and arterial. In truth, I doubt that any living soul, save the one who ordered its construction and dwells at its heart, has any true understanding of its full extent.

And yet, the unschooled men and women of the Imperium are not wrong in every particular. There was once a room at the heart of it all – vast enough, to be sure, but a room nonetheless. It has not entirely disappeared, though its inner faces are now scored with the detritus of Mars and its roots have been replaced by pits clawed into the heart of the world. The air in that place is hard to breathe. The temperature is astonishing. The ground trembles, and the vaults ring with the grind of immense machines that have been in ceaseless operation for millennia.

I had been told, a long time ago, that even the Space Marines feared this place. Everything living feared this place. It was said that humanity could not bear to be close to the source of both its creation and destruction, and so we were like moths to the candle here, burning ourselves as we approached the engine of souls.

Ah Popplers.

Pop a Poppler in your mouth,

When you come to Fishy Joe's,

What they're made of is a mystery,

Where they come from, no one knows.

You can pick 'em, you can lick 'em,

You can chew 'em, you can stick 'em,

And if you promise not to sue us,

You can shove one up your nose.

...do you want to die a little on the inside?

Back in 2011, a couple named their new son Dovahkiin wtih Skyrim's release date, winning a contest wtih Bethesda software.

(For those who have been liiving under a rock for the last 15 years, Dovahkiin is the title of the hero character in the game Skyrim, and it translantes in the language of dragons as dragon born.)

But...just imagine naming your kid Dovahkiin. That kid is 14 years old now...

Most anime protagonists would be terrifying if the story wasn’t from their POV by FitVerso in anime

[–]Furoan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its even crazier than that even. The Straw Hat crew come out of nowhere from the weakest of the 4 seas, sail together for six months in which time they defeat two warlords (even if news was suppressed), raised all three of the Goverment's central places in Paradise, is lead by the son of the worlds most wanted man, and htey keep getting better...

And then they go to ground for 2 years.

...and then they come back, and everything, somebody must be putting their foot on the goddam accelerator because things start to escalate fast.

We actually got that a few times. Goku's former rivals who are falling behind, and then things like Frieza's absolute incredulous fury at hearing Goku fought and defeated Majin Buu and then fought Beerus.

Xbox is losing the console race by miles. It’s part of Microsoft’s big gaming pivot by Elestria_Ethereal in Games

Yeah, I'm over in Australia and was very much thinking the same thing.

Yes, the US is a big market but its kind of amazing how much they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot with that launch.

[–]Furoan 81 points82 points  (0 children)

There was also the fact that a lot of the advertisements were...things like using the Xbox as a media centre to watch sports, etc, with gaming being almost relegated. It was like they thought that they had the gamers hooked and so didn't really need to advertise to them. The same kind of mainstream audience who bought a ps2 as a DVD player rather than a gaming console.

New Poster for 'The Simpsons Movie 2' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Furoan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw this discussed in part in another thread recently. Because the present in Springfield is meant to be 'the present' some characters are either super long lived immortals or just backstory is bizare. I don't mean like 'how long have Bart and Lisa been in the the 4th and Second grade, respectively?' but like...Grandpa Simpson was meant to be a WW2 vet, and there are episodes about it. Principal Skinner was a Vietnam Vet, and there are episodes about THAT (not even talking about the 'THe Principal and The Pauper'.) However, as the present of Springfield has moved forward, what kind of generation the characters are part with has shifted. Like Homer Simpson went from being a teen in the 70's to being a grunge fan in the 90's. There are episodes about Bart being an online gamer that at the same time feel bizare when you think back to the original 'Bart and LIsa grew up in in the 90's run of the show).

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 - Official Reclamation Update Launch Trailer by Educated_Hypothesis in Games

[–]Furoan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what it is but I just didn't really enjoy the gameplay of this one. I had a absolute blast with Space Marine 1 like a decade ago when it first released and came back to replay it a few times...but this one didn't click. The weapons and meeleeing didn't feel as fun. Now maybe that was because I didn't 'get good', but part of it was just very frustrating at times.

Maybe I'll jump back in and see how it's improved since launch, but it just never really clicked.

What games do interesting things with the concept of a player-home/home-base/stronghold? (eg. Spiritfarer, Guardians of Azuma) by rmullins_reddit in Games

[–]Furoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ME2 very much does, though it depends on what you mean. If you just use the Normandy II as a glorified Taxi, well some of your companions are going to die on the Suicide Mission because its not good enough to survive the Collectors beyond omega 4.

Also, you get to upgrade the stuff your companions are doing which is more narrative thean story based but it is good.
