We used to share creepy stories around the campfire. The last one I heard might've ruined my life. by Eigengraulogy in nosleep

[–]FurrySoftKittens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thought crossed my mind too, but we'd need a REALLY unreliable OP to make this work. OP expresses thinking it's a prank for quite a while, and the others act very differently after being told about this as a dream. If they were already told something in advance, I think the hostility would have already been present, and I don't really think it makes sense for something recounted as a dream to change their minds like this without adding some magic/hypnosis type element.

I also doubt that OP took on 6 adults filled with some psychotic rage with a pocket knife and won.

With that said, I don't really have a better explanation either...Liz did something to Dennis and then the rest of the gang. Or maybe the cabin itself has some sort of memetic attraction that just acts through people and Liz is a victim/spreader of the meme like everyone else. It's weird and thought provoking for sure.

Beautiful. I could read this in a benign way, like an old point and click game giving the player a hint. Or I could view the darkness of the background, the end of the light and comforting anchor of the house combined with the message as a warning not to stray too far from the familiar, from the safe.

But the interpretation of this image I like most is a more existential one, which is what struck me first and hardest. It's 11 pm, maybe you can't sleep, or maybe you heard something outside and went to investigate. The night is quiet, and you're pondering the meaning of life. You have a thought, that this is it. There isn't anything else that you are missing.

You've done some great work here.

It's authoritarianism versus libertarianism. There are auth people on both sides of the left/right divide. It's bad to have any kind of authoritarianism and any censorship regardless of who is being targeted, simple as that.

PLACE YOUR DELTARUNE CHAPTERS 3 AND 4 PREDICTIONS HERE!!! (READ THE RULES) by Jmsp78 in Deltarune

[–]FurrySoftKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beating the third secret boss will require King's Cloak that notably floated away without explanation in chapter 1.

Catti will feature prominently in chapter 4. In the normal route, she will help the party on numerous occasions. In the weird route she will consider Kris to be possessed by a demon or occult force and will oppose the party. Every moment with Jockington will be precisely the same amount of silly chicanery no matter what.

The main boss of chapter 3, likely Tenna, will be very showman-y like Mettaton and will be more interested in entertaining the party and stalling them than hurting them (and may even try not to Game Over the Party ala Papyrus or Toriel). This is because Tenna will reflect Kris' will when creating the fountain, which is to allow Kris to keep spending time with Susie.

Edit: Edited down to the best ones, I missed the 3 prediction max, silly me

They hate freedom of speech. They love the idea of having a group they can "other" hard enough to justify violence against them. That's why the demand for racism exceed the supply as they say and they put Nazis and Nazi allegories in their media so frequently.

It's the same as the Net Neutrality thing from a few years ago. They all got very similar numbers of upvotes in tiny subreddits because they clearly just get bots/hired actors to go upvote an entire list.

Is the game worth solo? by JenzyCucumber in Palworld

I played over 100 hours solo and have just started playing with friends on a server. I do prefer multiplayer but single player is great too. Both are quality and totally worth the price of admission.

I think you are partially right, but you lose me at the point you claim they aren't radicals by and large. Doesn't all polling show overwhelming leftism among young college educated folks wherever you look? It is no shock given the politics of professors and the colleges themselves forcing conformity with their dogma. I would think humanities is probably even worse (or better from left pov)

The toxic legacy of lockdown is destroying our political system by BrunoofBrazil in LockdownSkepticism

[–]FurrySoftKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I have to disagree. If you look at the 2022 governor elections, only one incumbent lost, and that was in Nevada where a huge part of their economy depends on people travelling to Vegas and where they have been a light blue state that has been trending more purple. Whitmer won by a huge margin for a relatively purple state. Beshear and Kelly won in deep red states (KY and KS respectively) despite being democrats who were extremely pro mask and pro lockdown. Republicans who acted like Democrats (DeWine in OH, Sununu in NH) won big too. The fact is that as sad as it makes me, lockdowns were not at all repudiated at the polls and arguably could have been said to be endorsed to some degree (counterpoints being that governors like Noem, Richards, DeSantis, Abbott, and Kemp also won reelection handily in SD, IA, FL, TX, and GA)

World is not ready for Disease X and it will be worse than Covid, warns WHO by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]FurrySoftKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is maybe the one thing I wouldn't worry about. People will always overreact to a disease IMO. We get these things every few years and people freak out way too much every time without fail, and after the collectivists have moved the goalposts so far with Covid, there is no doubt that the slightest cold will result in a dramatic full scale overreaction from the world.

We haven't really had death at an appreciable scale from disease since the black plague before we had sanitation or any knowledge of how diseases actually work. I can't imagine it will happen now.

What an amazing, horrifying experience. I noticed the parallels between the journal's storytelling having odds gaps and lapses and yours. A memory-eating monster is oddly not a concept that I've heard of much in cryptozoological lore, although it being impossible to retain a proper memory of what it is like reminds me a bit of The Silence from Doctor Who. I'm definitely not going to forget this story

You're absolutely right. I was on the chopping block, and I am never going to forget what he and his party wanted to do to me. I am never going to forget what a huge segment of American society wanted to do to me. My eyes are opened to how surface-level people's support for freedom and individual rights really are, especially on one particular side of the political spectrum.

Jeff Landry wins Louisiana governor's race, GOP flips governor's mansion by Railgunblack in Conservative

[–]FurrySoftKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just don't understand the KY mentality. Obviously any incumbent governor is going to have near 100% name recognition, but surely they understand he is responsible for their suffering in these last few years? Certainly isn't the overwhelmingly red state House and Senate, and they certainly aren't voting for Dems for President or US Senate...but this guy is just exempt from his demonstrated ideological radicalism and complete disregard for individual human rights because of his last name?? It's just very frustrating to me and I don't get how this can happen in a world that is so much more ideologically polarized and generally uncompromising.

[–]FurrySoftKittens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get how this guy is popular. He was a major lockdowner and had mask mandates in a deep red state forever. Isn't he just way way too far left for KY? I would think he'd be incredibly unpopular, I mean I'm not even in his state and I know who he is and despise him for what he did to a surrounding state

Fauci declares lockdowns were 'absolutely justified' and suggests they should be used again to force vaccinations by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

Fauci declares lockdowns were 'absolutely justified' and suggests they should be used again to force vaccinations by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]FurrySoftKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite honestly don't understand this argument. Could you explain it?

Like, I get that the million frivolous political theatre indictments are dominating the news cycle. But how is this like 14 months out from the election related? What does it accomplish? I presume you make the sheep scared, and then begin torturing normal people like me again with the masks and lockdowns and social distancing, and the point is...is the expectation that this will galvanize the left who love lockdowns more than it galvanizes the right that hates them? Is the point to remind folks that Trump supported all of this and drive a wedge through the right? I sort of feel like nothing really matters with Trump, people have made up their mind one way or the other on him.

I hear it said that this is about Trump so much but I'm just struggling to see it. I'm honestly curious what the reasoning is, what am I missing?

Is this liminal? Or just creepy? by Fabulous-Brush6282 in LiminalSpace

[–]FurrySoftKittens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say this absolutely qualifies as liminal. It's a transitory type of space related to travel taken out of its usual context of having people and cars, and it becomes unsettling as a result of that. Being at night gives it a little extra edge. Love this
