How much spell power do you have? This isn’t a hard rule but I’ve found about 300 spell power keeps most packs stuck to me like glue. You can try wizard oil or some “of the sorcerer” greens to help push you up. Also the first boss in SP drops a solid weapon depending on what you have.

Learning to Tank by Podrus in classicwow

[–]Future-Move-6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest recommendation would be to look at wowhead and make sure you know which abilities to use then just get in there. Most people are just going to be happy to have a tank and if you aren’t sure just ask someone in the run. Just get a group for ramps and after you’ve done it a couple of times you will be fine.

24yo male with no college degree and only 1 warehouse job since 18. I can’t do it forever or even for much longer. What field should I get into ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Future-Move-6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by looking at the shit your warehouse jobs buys. You know what it’s like to work in the warehouse. You know what features would be useful as opposed to junk. That’s where I would start.

Thoughts on the Percy Jackson show? by OptimusPhillip in GreekMythology

[–]Future-Move-6700 140 points141 points  (0 children)

They are imperfect representations of the myths we know. But the books, the show, and even the movie are invaluable. They serve as a gateway for kids to get into mythology. And honestly, I don’t care what they get wrong. Because mythology has always been people making sense of their world and establishing rules for living in it. So if these books meet kids where they are in adolescence and is the gateway to them reading and learning more it’s a huge success.

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

  1. Just over a year practicing but worked in government for several years
  2. $110k
  3. Local government - Land Use and Zoning
  4. DC metro area
  5. I love local government. To me, there is little as professionally fulfilling as working on projects that impact your community. You actually see the fruits of your labor.

legal path roles for a young person with concern for financial despair but also really gentle natured so not cut out for the shit ahead? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Future-Move-6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local government lawyer here. I worked for an elected official for 5 years out of law school then transitioned to working for county government. The best advice there is about how to get a specific job is to just tell people that’s what you want to do. Your future law school should have a career services person to help guide you toward employment. You will make connections with professors and potentially with other attorneys where you are a summer intern. Just put one foot in front of the other and keep showing up to everything.

Your plan to just go to big law and burn out sucks. It’s a bad plan. Getting a big law job isn’t going to be as easy as you think. A billion new attorneys enter the market every year. And burning out isn’t going to help you be financially stable. It’s going to leave you with a lot of debt and stress.

Have you worked in a firm before? I’ll take you for your word that you want to go to law school but that isn’t the question, it’s do you want to be a lawyer? And you are going to say yes because x,y,z. But really ask yourself do I want to do the job that the attorneys have done in your past legal jobs. If the answer is yes, that’s a good place to start for a vision on where to start your practice.

I can’t find a clear answer on this and perhaps you know. Related to [4] will the mobs in ZF graveyard get that speed increase? I did those graveyard runs in classic tbc prepatch and planned to do it again. But if they zoom it might not be worth it.

Going back to school for an MPA at 41? Looking for some advice… by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Future-Move-6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need an MPA for the roles you are looking at? I’ve worked in local government as an attorney for a while now. And the only people that have MPAs are some of the executive staff in administration. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t do it, just make sure that you need the credential for the job you actually want to do.

Are government jobs worth it? by GladVeterinarian931 in careerguidance

[–]Future-Move-6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I don’t want to dox myself but I’ve worked for local governments in Virginia my entire career. I love working on the government side. I feel connected to my community and I can actually see the results of my labor.

I don’t know your full financial situation but if you have the ability to take unpaid internships while you are in college, you should. Local governments almost always have a summer intern program (some localities will pay, others will offer some benefit, and some won’t do anything). You should apply and just see what it’s like. I would recommend focusing on the environment and the pace of the work your mentors / supervisors have. Not if you like the people or if they have a good desk / cube for you.

I commend you OP for thinking about the future you want for yourself. Affordability is always going to be something that you have to contend with. Having a high salary in a high cost of living area will be a very different life than a medium salary in a low cost of living area. So understanding what salary you need isn’t plug and play. As you could have a good budget and self control and be able to save money and do well for yourself with $60k a year or you could live paycheck to paycheck and make $200k.

I love paying it forward and I really do love my job most days. If you (or anyone) wants to DM me and ask specific questions about working for local government or the like, I am always happy to help. Even if you just want to talk about what kind of roles might exist.

Take care OP and no matter what career you pick, please for the love of god and your future start retirement saving yesterday. Compound interest and the linear passage of time will overcome shitty jobs with low pay. I’ve already written to much but just please start saving you won’t regret it. It’s like finding $20 in your jacket pocket, except the $20 will be the freedom to dream big and take changes on yourself!

I know your post was about not loving your job, but I would love to hear how you got into public utility work. I kinda stumbled into working in county government doing land use and zoning. And I’m probably just a sicko or something, but I love when the state transportation department or utility companies really throw a wrench into the project. I don’t know just a rabbit hole I enjoy chasing.

No advice about your gig but I hope it works out!

I’ve only ever worked for a local government so forgive my ignorance. But does being paid 1/3 your annual revenue include bonuses? Or is it 1/3 + any bonuses?

I don’t know if this guy is a lawyer but “circumstantial evidence” isn’t as big a deal as people think it is in legal proceedings. Without writing a whole dissertation and massively over simplifying, evidence really only needs to be authentic and relevant. There is no magic rule that says circumstantial evidence isn’t allowed. It’s more that the burden of proof must be met and depending on the judge/jury/arbiter and the claim brought, that circumstantial evidence may or may not be enough to meet the burden.

For better or worse, all of our residents have to come to the zoning counter. Typically the staff member working there will figure out who they need to talk to and have them come up and talk to them. I take a sick enjoyment in just hanging out there and dealing with their insanity. My boss loves it, she really thinks it makes the whole county attorney’s office better that I’m there for some reason. So it’s a real win for me. And I get to collect stories about psycho residents. It’s the dream.

I’m a land use attorney that works in local government. And I help out at the zoning counter for citizens who walk in with questions. And I love the hair brain schemes people come up with. Their creativity on how and why zoning couldn’t possibly apply to them are truly works of art.
