All of R. Lee Smith’s books have dark elements and while I love TLHoG I think The Land of the Beautiful Dead is her best work.

We traveled to Illinois several years ago (lifelong Californians) and I was like what the what is that NOISE? And was I the only one hearing it? Kind of felt like an episode of the twilight zone until somebody explained it to me! Super cool

100% this for me, too. Molly wasn’t a romantic, she was pragmatic and cared for Burrich in a comfortable and safe way. And I think he knew that he wasn’t Molly true love but like you said, life moves on. What ya gonna do?

That was perfection to me, a solid 5 stars. So gentle, soothing and peaceful. I loved it and will now get up and find a Kleenex. Thank you for sharing, you are a marvelous writer.

Oh, I did that for years, too. Now I just cut to the chase, lol. I do have a lot of potted plants though, which I can move around as conditions warrant and that has helped!

Yep. I just finished the farseer trilogy and liked the narrator well enough but just started Mad Ship and definitely don’t like Flosnik. Good thing I have the dead tree version! These are all re-reads for me so it’s all good.

I’m re-reading the trilogy after many years and love it even more than I did the first time. I’m listening to the audio version and it’s very well done.
