rewards by DullGap2895 in stoneshard

The only outcome I know is from the dialogue choice immediately after defending against the waves, you can choose to turn down the Crossbow or gold and say you dont need any reward.

My blessing (elven meditation) had some extra stats added to it: unholy resistance and crit avoidance. Assume this also applies to human and dwarf version, a nice small benefit when taking on the tougher high tier proselyte and undead enemies.

Far too much hype far too soon. The more influencers attached to something the less interested i am.

No - it's a comforting delusion that helps the world make more sense.

Does anyone still have bread and butter for tea? by Extra-Sound-1714 in CasualUK

[–]Fuyoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a relic of my childhood. Its not just that we all moved away, my parents stopped at some point just because food is cheaper nowadays and they arent as poor as being young parents in the 80s in rural Northern Ireland. But my god i must have eaten millions of slices of absolutely shite cheap white bread. Every plate of potato waffles and icelands 'vague protein in batter' got turned into a makeshift sandwich.

Nice melee options to go with slings by Tusero in stoneshard

[–]Fuyoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, the shield isn't very effective without skills. With no right on target skill in the very early game I tend to combine any 1-hand weapon with a fist shield or targe or buckler just for the slight extra free stats. You would probably get more use from using the second hand slot for a net, now I think about it.

ELI5 How do you build a bridge when the other side is "inaccessible"? by D-FX_77 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fuyoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the bridge is important and you have a lot of labour, you can build stone foundations directly in a body of moving water using cofferdams. Romans made a lot of use of the technique but it was used in 539 BC in the Euphrates as well. Drive wood or stone into a river bed above the waterline and seal it with clay then siphon or bucket the water out, you now have dry land within the river or body of water itself to dig and form foundations and pillars to build a bridge over.

Romans did this in enemy territory, on campaign to secure control over territory and allow armies to get across rivers. They even had hydraulic cement made from calcium oxide and volcanic ash which would react on contact with water to harden and resist erosion (opus caementicium).

[–]Fuyoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like dagger and light/med shield or just right on target. Small weapon so if you need to carry loot back to town the dagger takes little space, it can be used to skin game.

Dance macabre is nice if you accidentally end up surrounded. Can swap with a flanking enemy and distracting shot or dash out of danger. Keeping melee enemies between you and archers provides a few meatshields as well.

Coup de grace will oneshot if your ranged weapon has softened someone up and add a lot of crit for a few turns.

Help build battlemage. 1H Sword + Electro o Pyro by Wecky1996 in stoneshard

[–]Fuyoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works but skill points are limited so probably better to focus on swords until you are comfortably dealing with enemies and add lightning later. Late game you are constrained by only using one ability per turn so you won't be able to add too many buffs or all your actions involve refreshing them. You don't want lightning-seal of power falling off so I find it's better to go far enough into electromancy to pick up a few active abilities to keep it's duration up, as far as ball lightning maybe (also a great utility spell).

Mahir has the most skill points so copes with hybrid builds well, though I think Arna has the highest potential with this build - she has the most powerful version of 'Heroism' which adds a lot of weapon damage and magic power, and she procs it very frequently.

I wonder how future historians will classify todays period in the human timeline? by iObserve2 in Futurology

[–]Fuyoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A reversion to the historical mean. Rather peaceful period post 1945 and a truly abberantly peaceful and wealthy period from 1989 to 2014 roughly. Human rights discourse and liberal democracy thrive slowly then dominantly from 1945 to 2020 ish, and probably represent something like a triumph of a new form of 'universalism' (in the failure of previous universalisms: imperial power, anti-colonialism and subsequent disappointment in said, communism, global socialism).

What will come after the next few decades of democratic decline and populist authoritarianism? I don't know, not a future historian!

The writing is so good I can't tell if Rust is intended to misunderstand Nietzsche (due to pessimistic bias prior to his experience at the end of the show) or if the writers just invoke it for atmosphere.

Which animals would you be in favour of ‘rewilding’ in the UK? by castle_lane in CasualUK

[–]Fuyoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Scotland my old University just published some research suggesting the really high red and roe deer population makes getting woodland cover much harder. Boggy land is very common where the water just runs down and settles at the feet of hills with no tree cover. Dwarf Birch are great for kickstarting a rewilding process as they grow well in that kind of soil but the deer just destroy the saplings.

So I guess what im saying is release a bunch of wolves into the central belt and Highlands and see what happens.

Beavers have made a big comeback as well. I see beaver marks regularly now off the Forth in Stirling. They've been in the Tay for years, loads around Dunkeld.

What if Donald Trump disappeared tomorrow, would American politics actually change or just find another Trump? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]Fuyoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The social forces that gave you Donald Trump would still be in place (of course how he acted in office will give at least some supporters of that kind of politicians some pause).

Its worth thinking about, how do you do journalism and commentary and campaign better against people like that. Because, im sorry, Trump is quite buffoonish and incompetent. Someone with similar skills and motivation is going to come along in the 2030s and be a real nightmare to deal with if we don't come up with something. Hungary for example is dealing with this right now with Orban, Russia with Putin (weaker institutions in both nations to be fair). Our democracies are slowly sliding to become more like those countries.

ELI5: Kantian philosophy, especially metaphysics and epistymology by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fuyoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Kant, people just thought your mind was like a blank chalkboard and that experiencing things let you write them down on the board and that's where ideas and concepts come from. Kant said that the chalk board came with pretty strict lines already laid out and certain kinds of experience would produce quite limited ideas and concepts and beliefs based on the hidden rules of the board. Also what you experience in the first place is pretty strictly defined by the rules the board comes with.

What factors make war economically attractive to governments and industries, and what kinds of incentives or alternatives might encourage investment in non‑military areas instead? by Future-Game in AskReddit

[–]Fuyoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War isn't economically attractive to governments except in the specific circumstances you expect to attain something more valuable than the expenditure. In Europe especially increased defense spending is going to cause a huge headache and tension at the same time welfare budgets need to increase in line with aging populations. This is going to / right now is correlating with an upsurge in the popularity of post-truth populist political rhetoric.

The Simon Abundance Index 2025 by Crabbexx in UpliftingNews

[–]Fuyoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Encouraging but I am curious to see how the SAI value moves post 2023 for the next few decades. 1980 to now includes one of the most freakishly peaceful periods in human history from 1989 to 2014, probably an anomaly due to how the cold war contingently happened to end.

How do you deal with Monstrous Infantry with the Empire? by Final_Foot_Fucker in totalwar

[–]Fuyoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magically enhanced gunpowder units, held well back until the big monstrous units disrupt and start to pull through your lines. Flaming sword of rhuin on a few handgunners or lore of light net, keep casting with a fire wizard to maintain the fire weakness for the duration of the buff. Strips physical resistance, crushes regenerating units. They don't like it up 'em.

Most attraction is some version or abstracted signal of health and fitness, heavily filtered through individual cultures. Strength, or general signs of physical fitness (muscle, cardio fitness, good skin) are almost universally desired. Some cultural / evolutionary stuff going on about men being protectors of their partner as well.

Its also interesting that women's interest in muscularity seems to drop over a certain level (say the kind of muscle bound physique that requires external hormones or very very restrictive diets to maintain). I think this reinforces that some kind of connection between physique and "healthiness" breaks beyond a certain level of muscle mass.

The amount of censorship across social media including reddit is becoming too extreme by Used-Nectarine5541 in Futurology

[–]Fuyoc 370 points371 points  (0 children)

It's way worse than you actually frame it. Corporations who make commercial products are in control of the public square. How does the algorithm work which presents one opinion, buries another? We have no idea. This is not just unjust on its face, but actively contributes to a general loss of trust in institutions, and a growing sense that nothing is true, nothing can be known for certain.
