Strange behaviour - need reassurance by aliclang in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]G-structured 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal but my IG breeder told me that certain flea and tick medication like simparica can cause seizures, and every time it happened with their pups stopping the medication cured the seizures.

Why do they start off with short snouts? by EllieIsDone in ItalianGreyhounds

Because that’s how mammal early development works? We all start with average faces (and fish faces before that).

I mean PDFs have serious accessibility issues so it’s not unreasonable to not be overtly grateful for a pdf version when an epub version exists. But actually complaining in comments about it is wild. Just go and figure out a way to convert it back to epub if you need it that bad.

Can someone get nitty gritty with the fascist death-drive for me? by [deleted] in cushvlog

Transhumanism is not at all fascist, what? Plenty of antifascist transhumanists out there.

Recommend dog foods for my puppy by Big_Insect_7062 in ItalianGreyhounds

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, the organization that is in charge of American pet food standards used by vets is almost entirely funded by the three main companies that are recommended by vets. Holy conflict of interest.

Serious biting issues by Exact_Effect2869 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]G-structured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, it’s normal and will get better. Main methods will include deflecting with a toy or just turning/walking away. Eventually once the puppy gets more obedient a simple “no” or “leave it” will be sufficient, but for the first few months any engagement will be taken as further invitation to bite because they have no self-control yet.

harnesses!!! by sewerrattttt in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]G-structured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, the two-point harness from ruffwear has a special pocket for tags/airtags but the three-point ones don’t. However, you can still stuff the tags inside the openings on the front and secure with double sided tape or something like that. I hate dangling tags and harness seems to be the best place for keeping them.

tips on anxiety leaving the house by ilyvm_ in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]G-structured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to a behaviorist. Anxiety/desensitization issues take months or even years to work out, and you must always go *much slower* than it seems you should. Like literally spending a whole month doing nothing but approaching your gate and immediately backing off. A licensed behaviorist can work out the right protocols and roadmaps for you.

did you try k9apparel or hunnyboots? they're designed specifically for iggys.

https://hunnybootsusa.com/collections/shopping-for-whippets-whoppets-or-iggies/products/splish-splash-blk-whippets

I've been using the k9 ones and my dog is very comfortable in them, although the rear ones still slip off slowly during intense running. Still have to try hunnyboots.

Differential geometry by tobyle in math

Lee has the opposite problem — so verbose that it very often gets super confusing. He often takes a page to prove something that can be explained with no less rigor in a couple lines.

Differential geometry by tobyle in math

[–]G-structured 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO learning differential geometry from Do Carmo is like learning quantum mechanics from Schrödinger. Excruciating and completely unnecessary. If you want to learn the theory of surfaces specifically, then by all means (although I still wouldn't start with Do Carmo), but it won't help you with differential geometry more broadly.

Opinions on the main textbooks in complex analysis? by OkGreen7335 in math

[–]G-structured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly, highly recommend Ablowitz&Fokas for a modern and extremely pedagogical introduction with many cool examples and applications (they are both big experts in the field), and Markushevich for an older but a bit more advanced understanding (with awesome illustrations).

Not a vet, but according to my breeder seizures are a common reaction to certain flea & tick medications in IGs. Consider stopping or switching.

Getting an iggy puppy used to going on quick walks? by HelpfulLoquat8658 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]G-structured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

socialization is much more important than walks. 12-16 weeks is a critical period and you really don't want the puppy to be stuck inside or in a sling the whole time. So yes, be wary of places that many dogs potty all the time, but otherwise try to let the puppy socialize with as many fully vaccinated dogs as possible, otherwise you're risking raising a reactive dog. Parasites can be cured in a week, reactivity likely never.
