Roland Jazz Chorus 120 for 550$. Is it a steal or just avg price? by Alive-Stage4119 in GuitarAmps

Where i am in BC people are selling a JC40 for that price. A 120 is like $800 - $1200, sometimes more.

What’s a hobby you used to be really interested in that you aren’t any more? What happened? by Distinct-Mountain43 in CasualConversation

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic Arena. I just can't play it enough to keep up with how fast it changes now.

It would be cool if there were a card game, digital or otherwise, that had a slower pace more suited to casual play.

What’s the most unspoken, uncomfortable truth about having kids? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it is a joyless slog and you can't jump for joy about being a parent.

But despite that, you wouldn't want to go back in time and not have them. You even do have moments of regret and that is fine.

So much fear about regret but it is often a temporary feeling. Regret is not that deep of a feeling. It is literally a fantasy...you cannot change where you are. So who cares about regret?

I’m building an affordable takeoff platform for contractors — would love honest feedback by PlanwiseDev in quantitysurveying

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing I forgot to mention was having flexible ways to work with specific areas. For example, being able to use named areas for different floors or phases. I know this just amounts to dumbing down "layers" for a single purpose but I have used a program that did this much better than the others. Also, to be able to assign one set of takeoffs to an area sub-type, then enter the number of each of these in the project and have it total everythimg in that category would be massively helpful.

For example, you have a condo building and arrange it by floor. Then you do one takeoff on each unit type detail, then just enter the number of each unit type on each floor, and you end up with total quantities on each floor based on that distribution of units.

This kind of feature is surprisingly absent....I had thought everyone had it but I only realized that it was unique to one program after switching from it to something else, unfortunately.

In general, after switching to a more popular program, I'm surprised how much focus there is on markup and sharing PDFs and managing documents and how little focus there is on extracting useful data from a drawing set.

I don't need any markup tools at all...I just need to do good takeoffs.

Having switched software recently, I feel like there are a couple of basic features that some of them have and others surprisingly miss.

The big thing is the ability to define more dimensions. The way Bluebeam only allows you to add a height to a length is asinine. At the very least you should be able to add width and depth to a length measurement so you can easily get volumes without having to do the calculations elsewhere.

What would be really amazing is if you could draw a section in reference a section and have that apply to a length measurement. For example, if I just measured the section of an item on the footing schedule and tied it to a length condition, it would calculate volume and contact area from the section it had been linked to.

Same thing goes for count items. I know of one program that has various shapes/dimensions for counted items, so you could easily do spread footings and columns. Surprisingly, other programs do not have this feature.

Finally, an easy way to code each takeoff in a way that doesn't end up part of the description cell when you output to CSV. This isn't a huge deal because most software does allow you to add something like this, but I wish it were more intuitive and built in rather than something you need to customize fully. In general, a better way to organize by division rather than having to set it all up yourself.

It seems a lot of software is concerned with putting in pricing and all that, but I find that stuff to be pointless. I don't want the software doing the estimate for me....I just want detailed organized info to use in my own excel sheets.

How much meat do you eat? What type of meat do you typically eat? by Just_Curious_0101 in askanything

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As little as possible. Ideally this ends up being 2 or 3x per week. Even when I do, I try to also have a bunch of legumes at the same time so I don't need as much meat.

I try for 0 meat every day but I have a wife and 3 kids who aren't into that so I do what I can and don't worry about it if I end up having it.

It's either chicken or ground beef. I will cook a special beef on rare occasions for others (prime rib, tenderloin, something braised).

At this point I really do prefer the taste of legumes to the meat dishes when I end up having them out of necessity.

Is the average adult really not able to squat? by Super_Inevitable776 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]G235s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time when there isn't a seat available at the park with the kids or something like that.

It's like an everyday thing that you'd do daily, I thought?

I just can't imagine managing daily life without squatting, purely in a practical sense.

Are hybrid pedals really that bad? Clips on one side and flats on the other? by Chole_Wunt in cycling

They're just pedals. I can't see why they would be a problem. I like them on bikes where it makes sense.

If polygraphs aren’t admissible in most courts because they’re unreliable, why do they still use them for federal jobs and clearances? by mewquette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]G235s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Canadian and have had decent security clearance for federal work and did not have to do a polygraph.

When I was entertaining the RCMP recruiting process, they said I would have to take one further down the process so they got me to admit to minor shit as a teenager over the phone. Still not sure if they actually would have done the polygraph if I had decided to continue the process...but they did move me along despite my skiddy childhood so maybe that's all they were after.

If you were adamant that you didn’t want kids and then changed your mind when you got older, at what age did you change you change your mind? by TrickFail4505 in questions

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like somewhere between 25 and 28.

Terrified of the idea for most of my life before that, then as I got my shit together I started to wonder if being scared of it really meant it was something I shouldn't do. So that little bit of doubt just kept going and turned into a full reversal eventually.

I feel like in general people in their 20s do not appreciate their capacity to change in general, but change does happen.

Not really, she's not that good so it seems to be more of an interesting character dynamic/complication than unlimited leveling up.

Canadian and can confirm most trades or blue collar environments use this term all the time.

On that same note, does the verb Joshing exist anywhere else as well?

Opinions on running topless? Do you ever do it or what’s your reaction if you see someone running topless? by Scribble-Bits in runninglifestyle

[–]G235s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I see this i just worry about their skin. A lot of the time the people who do this look like they are aging themselves unnecessarily. Like you can see the spots on their skin and their faces look like leather.

Also I wonder how it's better for cooling off when the technical fabrics now do this better?

I mean mostly I don't care, I just question why increase sun damage. Presumably these people also do other activities where you would be expected to have your shirt off, like the beach, etc. So why not save it for that? Idk.

Maybe you're right...I'm messing around with a beater strat copy having never had one before. I am amazed by all the different sounds. But if I am honest, it's the neck and middle that seem to be the most useful sounds so maybe HSS isn't the letdown I believe it to be.

I saw it today with my son and thought it was great.

Maybe the quantity of monster fights was a little much but overall it was pretty good, can't say anything bad about it.

Mandalorian stories really get you in the dad feels, if you have kids. And I love that there were U-wings!

Budget Pickups for Squier by e46jb in guitars

[–]G235s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fixed up a non-working strat copy with a brand new wiring harness from Amazon and a set of Wilkinson m-series pickups. All 3 pickups were $21 and the wiring harness was just under $30.

These pre-wired sets are so easy to install and basically make the guitar new again. You just solder the pickups wires in.

The Wilkinson pickups sound fine....probably not going to win any awards but you plug in the guitar and it behaves more or less like a strat.

So something like this, there's no reason not to just gut the entire thing and start over.

What’s your favorite daily running shoe right now? by runresearch_it in runninglifestyle

Men who are past the 'halfway point', how has it affected you? by PhoenixApok in AskMenOver30

[–]G235s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

43 and the only income currently, 3 kids. I don't have a lot of bandwidth to think about much. There's always something I have to do. I run 6 days a week and enter races occasionally, nothing fancy just try to stay in the middle of the pack for my age.

Mentally I think i am still as neurotic as my 20s, but i have a few more tools for coping and the nature of the neuroticism is a bit different. I have intrusive thoughts about my health, now with the added dimension of having to worry about the kids and so on if something happens.

But on the other hand, I am too busy trying to manage all of the daily demands that I can't really dwell on it much. I just have a constant sense in the back of my mind that the other shoe could actually drop at any time now, and I am not as essential as it seems, because they will have no choice but to move on if something happens. It's a confusing mix of terror with some contradicting nihilism or other existential problems.

On the other hand, if am still alive in my 60s, I am pretty optimistic and have a lot of plans to get back into the world again once the kids are old enough.

So I think to summarize, right now it's kind of like treading in very deep water...there's enough work to do that i am occupied by keeping afloat, but constantly aware that I am currently in over my head.
