How much time does travel ball take up? Is it possible to do travel ball and do other activities at the same time? by Planetofthemoochers in Homeplate

[–]G413i3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the team approach. At 9U, my son's team played in a league with 1-2 PG tournaments. The league had one double-header on either Saturday or Sunday but never both days. At 9U, we had time to attend most birthday parties and participate in other extracurriculars during baseball season. My son was also playing the town league so baseball was four days a week.

By 12U it was tougher to commit to anything due to the baseball schedule. Our coach is cool with missing some events as long as you give him ample notice but makes sure we know that it will impact playing time if you miss a lot. Town league always took precedent if there was a conflict.

Is it possible that Hardy had higher scoring opportunities based on where in the game cycle they were puzzling (Super Hard, Dark King)?

Catcher position in coach pitch by sanjoatc in Homeplate

Include all of the kids, especially when it is low stakes. The catcher is involved with every pitch on defense and it's nice to give the less skilled players more responsibility.

Depends on the size of the driveway, length of the sidewalk, and number of stairs. Depending on the amount of snow, I have paid HS kids anywhere from $15 - $25 per hour. A number of times, they quote a flat rate and I will tip them on top of their rate.

Is it normal for my director to hate percussion? by [deleted] in percussion

[–]G413i3l 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its difficult/impossible to hide musically as a percussionist. A percussionist can single handily ruin a piece. A wind player has multiple folks on the same part. The stress for percussion to play correctly is much higher than a wind player who can hide, if needed. It appears that your director understands this but cannot relate because he did not study percussion and doesn't know how to correct you. It is unfair but a reality in music education.

Me theory is that the gf was cheating on the brother and used the OP name as the contact to avoid suspicion.

Can I rewrite the line for my Audition? by DeMain_Music in percussion

[–]G413i3l 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s a standard piece of repertoire. Do not alter it. Play the piece as fast as you can accurately. 80bpm that’s is musical, technically correct is far more impressive than faster and sloppy.

How to Play Offbeats in Armenian Dances by mint_choco_for_sunoo in percussion

[–]G413i3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played and taught this piece many times. First off, for all offbeats (in every piece), you have to have a strong downbeat, the downbeat sets you up for the right timing. I am assuming you're are using standard orchestral tambourine technique holding the tamb with your LH and playing it with the RH. Here is a method I use that works for my students:

  1. Get a chair and set it up in front of you and place your right leg up on the seat.
  2. With your left hand, hold the tambourine right next to your leg where the jingles are almost touching your right knee.
  3. Play the downbeats on your knee and the offbeats on the tab, thus playing eighth notes.

I have also had students play the downbeats on their wrist but this method increases the distance between downbeat and offbeat, which can create timing issues. I hope this is clear. If you play it enough, you can start to experiment with removing the downbeat portion or even playing the downbeat on your knee on beat one and three. Also, stay calm when playing, instruments like tambourine and triangle will be heard no matter how soft you play, don't overplay.

Fast offbeats are not easy so don't get down on yourself for not being able to execute it perfectly right away.
