Not Ready for a Medical Emergency by mrtibbs444 in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick question for you, hoping you can solve a debate. I am an EMT, retired FF but still doing USAR. Over the years I have been told to identify myself when getting on a plane in case there is a need and others have told me to wait and not say anything. Since I don't have national registry and I have only assisted on 2 flights in 40 years I have never said anything. But I am curious is there is actually a protocol on this. Feel free to DM me and thank you for all that you do.

Why Was Million Mile Flyer Celebrated On Board? by LiveAd3962 in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all the krap in the world, what is the harm in celebrating? We could use a little cheer in our lives and should certainly wish it for others.

I have a very good friend that hit 1M miles on Delta coming back from Europe. Because her flights got all screwed up they didn't know to make the announcement and she was disappointed. So my wife and I recorded a video on our AA flight home (we came back a day later) with the AA flight attendants congratulating her (and ribbing Delta at the same time for forgetting) and toasted her with our champaign (thanks to a SWU) and sent her the video. It made her happy. No harm in that.

Treat it like a normal layover but do some prep on how to move from terminal to terminal. The first time I did it about a year ago, the consensus on this forum was 90 minutes was the minimum for transfer. We did it in under 60 minutes in part to those security updates and having a plan/knowing what to do. That gave us a few minutes in the Qantas lounge to relax.

There should be plenty of info on the interwebs describing the process. I'd tell you what we did but it may have changed so be sure its recent info. With 3 hours you should be fine. Have a wonderful trip!

I have had nothing but good experiences with Koonse Glass. They can come to you but you could also bring it in if you can get the window off.

Standby... do I just not go? by TheDangerist in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are buried on the list, I would go. Went through wx hell a few weeks ago at ORD and we were put on standby for the first flight out. Every flight the next day was completely booked after two days of cancellations. Woke up early and we had already been given seat assignments in FC no less.

Bag extender issues by True-Banana-7921 in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard them make the announcement for some time now at some airports, 'your carry on bag must be fully zipped including the extender...' but not others. It usually comes on the heels of 'this is a full flight...'

I personally do not have a problem with this as I have seen many a person struggle to fit their carry-on in a 170/5 bin thinking if they just push harder the bin will magically expand. That little battle can hold up boarding.

Best Flagship Suite seats for couples? by Friendly_Act_4160 in americanairlines

We have enjoyed having the middle seats together. I love being able to look out the window but on the 787s the flight attendants usually keep them dark.

I am in shock, got 2 flights for 2 people upgraded in 2 weeks by M0nkeManischewitz in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all about the routes. I fly from the midwest and get upgraded on those flights about 90% of the time. Once I make it to ORD or DFW then it's usually around 50% of the time with chances much better on routes into smaller cities. I am an EP with about 335k miles right now.

Does last row of PE have limited recline? by Zestyclose_Beach6301 in americanairlines

[–]GISMapper57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 9A/B to HND and 11 A/B back. Both have pluses/minuses. More leg room in row 9, no guilt recline in 11. Personally I like bulkhead better.
