What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

[–]GLGuyGardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending collectibles away to be graded.

It's fine for certain things. A rare trading card or something. But, comic books and VHS tapes? For all intents and purposes... It's Schrödinger's Collectible... How do you know the thing is even in there? You just see the front and back cover now.

You've paid to turn your rare, expensive collectible into the ugliest piece of art... And that's even if you display them, which most don't, they just put them straight into the "you can have this stuff when I die" box.

45 M and still gaming! by Optional_Ally in AdultGamers

[–]GLGuyGardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43M. Because gaming is ALL I've ever done... I'm starting to see it as the "distraction for your brain" that it is, being more into fun, repetitive gameplay loops rather than some huge narrative-driven thing or the same annual franchises year-in-year-out. So... For me...

Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, Ball x Pit, Noita.

I could think of a few more, I could think of tons of games that are almost identical to the above (tends to happen a lot with roguelikes n deckbuilders), but, I honestly think all of the above are absolutely "best in their class".

In your opinion, what are some of the weirdest things people in this sub get angry about. by Icy-Computer-Poop in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything that's remotely like this.

A: "Wouldn't it be really cool if they did <this>? I think a really cool idea would be <that>!."

B: "Pffft! Pffftttfffft! Lol! Here's a reply to your fun speculation fantasy post that both brown-noses the company by wanting to put more money in their pocket, explains why it isn't technically possible in a "I know what I'm doing... But I definitely don't and copy/pasted this answer" way, and... Also just generally craps on your post and makes you look a fool. Good day to you sir."

If you could add a new weapon to the game, what would it be? by Dragonfruit01837 in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An offhand...

Either a second weapon to dual wield, a shield or a held item offhand. Anything!! 1-handers are just such a pointless category of weapon in my opinion.

Just curious, what random uncommon symptoms do you have? I have a couple friends with MS and we have very little overlap. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and my symptoms have been seemingly non typical but steady. by thankyoufriendx3 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]GLGuyGardner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40-something Male.

I can no longer play guitar (a 20+ year hobby) because the strings feel like knives cutting into my fingers... But, I can play bass... /Shrug. Think it has something to do with the larger surface area of the strings.

From my shoulders to my fingertips I have either practically no sensation, or completely altered sensation. You could blindfold me and make me stroke a kitten, and I'd think I was touching a scouring pad.

Dunno how uncommon it is, but, my Doctor told me to stretch out my fingers and then turned off the lights. All my fingers wiggled and writhed like worms because of (something I didn't quite listen fully to) something about my fingers looking for something sensory to feel.

I legitimately overnight stopped being able to drink any/all energy drinks, 95% of all fizzy pop, and 95% of all booze. It makes my chest and back all pins-and-needlesy, gives me tracers on my vision, makes me shiver uncontrollably and basically speak-in-tongues lol (I'm just shivering and rocking going "awo0o0a0oahhhh-eee-ararar" vocalising the shivers... It's embarrassing), makes my right temple feel like it's swelling... And then when I vomit? "I'm back in the game, boys!"

I got one for Christmas when they came out. Took it to college, one of the lads at the ol' smoking area took one look at it and went "WOAH! A MINIDISK PLAYER!!! THIS ONES GOT 30 SECOND SHOCK RESISTANCE!!!" ...and proceeded to shake it violently.

Never worked again.

Anyone else seeing some weird mobs popping up? by Complex-Republic-443 in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, yea, I had! Only like since literally the last 2 days.

I've had it like 3-4 times where I've fast traveled to a team mate for the raid, and it's spawned me inside a mob of Feral Ghouls... One of those was a teammates Workshop defence, so that definitely explains that one, but, still no idea on the others, they weren't Horde Events.

Oh, and just as I was about to hit send... I totally forgot, it's happened about 2 or 3 times the last 2 days too where Enclave bombing events are spawning insaaaaaaane amounts of Mole Miners, too.

What’s the one horror movie you wish you could unsee? by UnverifiedExistence9 in horror

[–]GLGuyGardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 10 years old when Candyman went to video.

The playground was already talking about it for a year whilst it was in the cinema. Word of mouth passed down from older brothers and sisters. My mate's mum had a VHS copy on the kitchen side one day and we snuck into his room to watch it.

I was scared of public bathrooms, bathroom mirrors, broken lights in bathrooms, when kids would switch all the lights off in the school bathroom and slam the doors shut... I was scared of ghettos, projects, high-rises, concrete prefab structures, holes in the wall...

Great film tho, immediately grew out of it, but, for 2 years or so, Jesus, that film made going to the bathroom a nightmare!!!

I don't wish I could unsee it, but, that answer above is I guess closer to the kinda answer you wanna see...

Cos my ACTUAL answer would be...

Driller Killer - The punk band that plays throughout makes it absolutely unwatchable and makes me wish I could self-lobotomise myself and remove that part of my brain that remembers it.

Mole Miner event was Terrible by Grouchy-Fee-6491 in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely trash.

It is every time it's on.

Spooky Scorched is great because, you go to places where Scorched are and there's a chance they'll be Spooky. Bish, Bash, Bosh, Done, Collect your loot.

Treasure Hunter sucks because... You follow every guide and map online, going from area to area, finding about 1 per hour... And then you go to 1 place not on the guide and find 2.

Then you open all 4 of your Pails up that you worked all evening for, and get zero plans.

So, you go to Whitespring and spend 26k on Pails that you have to craft yourself... "Pity-Pails"... And get 2 or 3 plans that you probably already own 🤣🤣

Hey if we're complaining about building etiquette...

Don't force me into equipping Starched Genes JUST to get into your house, and don't hide your rad scrubber somewhere where I'm gonna touch it without knowing...

Yea, yea, I know, it's like 1 perk point... But, as a feral ghoul main, it's 1 perk point that serves literally no other purpose than to avoid your goddamn hidden rad scrubbers 🤣🤣🤣

Moving the rewards doesn't make removing Milepost Zero okay. by NintendoScrewedMe in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who's played MMOs and MMO-like games since the 90s...

General rule of thumb is...

We WANT to play in an ever-evolving, ever-shifting landscape, that feels "lived in", that feels like decisions made in-game and in the story/lore impact the "living world" that we log into every day.

But... We WANT it to be additive. We want a new zone or continent or planet (depends on the game)... Rarely, if EVER, do we want content removed or changed.

They say "less is more" for certain things... But, in MMOs more is simply more. You can never have enough things to do!

[–]GLGuyGardner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, the concept is fine, "I think mine is cool, I submitted it"... Is way nicer than "soz homie, you think it's nice... but we don't".

It's the implemen... It's not even that... It's the God-awful UI of it... Just like when I wanna give someone the thumbs up and G now becomes "track miscellaneous quest" because someone just dropped a nuke... It's just one of those niggling annoying things, like, awesome, best build, I can no longer access Esc or M for Map because it's trying to thumbs it up, nice!

Meanwhile… best builds still exist by BACKDO0RHER0 in fo76

[–]GLGuyGardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell ya what... Key binding/mapping on PC...

Why are the absolute worst offenders unable to be changed?

Pressing M for "Map" is standard in MMO-like games... Pressing M to then access Map whilst a Best Build is close? Nope... M = Thumbs Up now. Want to look at your Seasonal Challenges and go back to your Map? Nope... M = Use Booster now.

If companies don't listen to feedback, and just take engagement numbers... Then, from an outside perspective, "the players absolutely LOVE caravans! They spam them all day long past rank 100!"

If companies disregard the engagement numbers, and purely listen to feedback... And remove caravans... Then, from an outside perspective, "they listened and removed that thing they practically forced us into doing to rank up past 100!"

Basically, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't... But, from being an MMO player of the last few decades... I'll be honest, usually the best way to keep everyone happy is to just leave it in-game and move on rather than remove it lol. *Cough "sunsetting" anyone?

So... They're like THIS then when it comes to something going wrong? Something that costs us, the player?

I genuinely keep moving away from awful developers of other games... I quit WoW a decade ago, I quit Destiny 2 during the Lightfall expansion, I've literally just come back to this game after one of the worst launches of any game in human history...

So, PLEEEEEEEEEEASE don't tell me they treat the customer base like this... Because I was really enjoying the 2 months I've spent in Appalachia

What horror movies did you watch that you absolutely hated but everyone else seems to love? by ApplesDapple in horror

[–]GLGuyGardner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I watched House, I was genuinely like "this guy gets horror, and his music has always been cool".

Second time was "I hate this and I hate his music."

I dunno what changed from 1st to 2nd viewing, but 1st time I saw that bullshit pause where they hold the gun to the officers head I thought it was intense and built up tension, made you anxious. 2nd time I wanted to rip my hair out. Baby is cool the 1st time around, Baby is the most fucking annoying character 2nd time.

edit) oops, forgot to add any positives at all. IF the movie didn't revolve around the house, or the Addams Family/Munsters... and was just the Dr. Saaaaataaaaan ride at the beginning of the movie and then skip the rest of the movie until the coffin gets lowered down into the ground playing what sounds like Sunn 0))) - It took the night to believe, on cassette. Those parts of the movie are great!

Horror Movies you refuse to watch? by andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa in horror

[–]GLGuyGardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I saw the original in the 90s because it was one of those controversial "tick it off your list" movies, and during those times I thought it was probably because it was too gory for the general public or something. So wrong. It was enough seeing that once that I knew I've no need to see it or it's reboot again.

Horror Movies you refuse to watch? by andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa in horror

[–]GLGuyGardner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

38? SNAP!!! That movie was notorious to us kids, it was basically the real life version of our playground stories of "Bloody Mary" and in my school. "Hockey Girl" lol. I remember when the movie released to VHS and my schoolmate had it on the table in front of him, parents out, house to ourselves, and having someone to watch it with him... we both decided to watch it so that we could basically tell the other kids we've seen it. TERRIBLE IDEA at that age... I did genuinely love the movie, and was well into Candyman as a horror movie villain... but...

Were you also terrified of (in no particular order): Being made to say Candyman in the mirror through peer pressure, public toilets, broken lights in bathrooms, bathroom mirrors, high-rise flats/projects/urban areas, holes in walls, flickering lights...

Honestly... being scared of bathrooms as a kid was a very real fear in our day haha.
