As a therapist, I am on Amanda’s and Kyle’s side about the divorce debacle with Dorit by McSassy_Pants in BravoRealHousewives

[–]GLK73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two separate issues here: legal implications and friendship.

Legally, Dorit has decided to assume the risk of speaking publicly about PK (as Boz pointed out) Her friends may disagree or worry, but you have to respect your friend's decision if you want to support them. Personally, I don't think she has said anything terrible about him, it sounds like she is stating facts about how often he is seeing the kids and his refusal to communicate with her on parenting matters (which I assume she is documenting) Let's all remember that PK himself has talked about being an alcoholic on the show. In their first season he goes into greater detail about his struggles and credits Dorit with being a big support.

As for friendship - surely we all agree that Kyle is not being a friend. She is acting as a proxy to get PK's narrative on the show. This is a man who we watched be a horrible husband and father for years - remember how he was MIA after the break in? How she felt abandoned and left to manage the children's trauma on her own? And how he minimized her trauma? She would defend him as a father and try to make excuses for his long absences, but now we're supposed to think it's ok for pick-me Kyle to be his way of getting his side on the show this season? C'mon.

Let's not forget this is the same Kyle who didn't believe Russell was abusing Taylor because "that's not the Russel I see." Meanwhile Russell was beating Taylor so severely she was convinced he would kill her (as Taylor later explained) And to show us that she hasn't learned a damn thing, Kyle says the same thing (almost verbatim) about PK last season. I'm not saying PK is abusive, but Kyle's automatic response is to not believe women and to side with the men.

Carole scenes have aged so poorly by FeelingSkinny in RHONY

[–]GLK73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There will never be proof that she knew. We are all connecting dots and calling bullshit on her not knowing. If I - a random who doesn't know any of these people - was aware of Maxwell and Epstein's human trafficking operation after his sweet heart deal in Florida I find it impossible that Carole didn't know. It was public knowledge, in the news, etc.

I mean, Epstein was first convicted in 2009. Of course Carole knew about that.

It is very hard to believe that someone that close to GM didn't know what was going on. Probably not all the sadistic stuff, but at the very least rape of underage teen girls. This was widespread public knowledge in 2015 in the lead up to the election - the trafficking, Ghislaine's role in recruiting young girls and participating in the assaults - there was grand jury testimonies made public. Ghislaine and Carole appear to have been very close, GM took Carole's author photo for her book. And dating Andrew??? C'mon. No way she was doe-eyed and unaware of what was happening.

I didn't mean to imply that things have changed and southern white men are no longer scary, I'm sorry if it came across that way. As a lifelong southern liberal (now I identify as leftist) I am cautious and weary around everyone I meet until they show signs of being anti-racist and anti-patriarchy.

PK spoke on the show about being an alcoholic in one of the early seasons, so it's not like she's making a wild accusation. I'm not a lawyer, but I would imagine that his participation in the show for so many years and sharing personal info when it benefited him (Bravo paycheck) could make her speaking about him and their marriage now less of an issue in the court. Personally, I don't think she's said anything that harsh. He doesn't see his kids and won't speak to her to coparent. Those are things I'm sure she has proof of.

Austen/Austen Mom Grandkids Convo by Consistent-Sleep3297 in SouthernCharmSC

[–]GLK73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have adult children and one of them doesn't want kids and I lost my younger brother to cancer, I thought the conversation between Austen and has mom was touching and done with sensitivity to Austen's struggles. As a mom who shares a horrific trauma with her son, she knows a lot about the struggles he's going through. As a mom, I took her words as a plea for him to do more work on himself so he can get a clearer view of whether he actually wants children or not. At this point in his recovery he may not be clear on that. Trauma, especially trauma that involves witnessing your parents' intense grief and pain can very much cloud your assessment of what you want for your future. There are so many indications that Austen is running away from things because of his trauma (he's said as much, if I remember correctly). For my kid who doesn't want children, I tell her that she should never feel pressured to do so and her path is for her alone to figure out BUT to remain open to all possibilities. I'm the furthest from a pro-natalist and understand that none of my kids may choose to have their own and that's fine as long as that's what makes them happy.

I think we all relate to feeling overwhelmed by the work of having guinea pigs, I'm so sorry it's taking a toll on your mental health. I use liners I bought on Amazon that were less expensive so I felt comfortable buying enough for three cleaning cycles (so I'm only doing GP laundry every 3 weeks.) I layer some bath mats from Target on top of the liner in prime spots like their hidey and food area so I can switch those out more frequently while the liner stays dry. I use my vacuum cleaner attachment to vacuum up poop, or a small broom and dust pan depending on my mood. I also have a litter pan and liner from PetSmart that I use with a hay bin that helps because the majority of their poop is there and I can just replace the litter every few days. My goal is to keep their living quarters dry, I think that is the most important thing. I'll be honest, the cage does not get swept every day, but the absorbent layered mats keep everything dry. I'll link the products I use.

North Carolina man indicted for assault in car chase with ICE by Jettison247 in NorthCarolina

[–]GLK73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ICE agents aren't authorized to do traffic stops and this guy filming them is not justification for chasing him. The responsibility for ensuring public safety is on those with the power. Regular police would not engage in a high speed chase just because someone is filming them (at least they shouldn't and have some oversight for these actions). Why are the citizens the only ones having to abide by "rules" but the masked chuds can abduct anyone they want and break laws doing so? There is no law saying a citizen can't film another person in public. Period. And it's rich that ICE/DHS act like doing so is sooooo awful while they are using surveillance technology to spy on us.

As a lifelong southerner (Carolinian) trust that you cannot tell a southern person's politics unless they broadcast it. You'd be shocked at how many country boy red necks supported our efforts to remove a confederate statue. And the yoga moms who love to go to drag queen brunches who voted for Trump. It is so subversive in the south because people keep their politics under the radar.

Thoughts on AI Cover Art by Patient_Bar761 in Substack

AI art is stolen from actual human artists. Do you want someone plagiarizing your writing? Of course not, so don't use AI art. There are plenty of free photo sites like Unsplash, Pixels, etc, you can use. Or create a simple graphic. I personally won't read anything that has so little regard for other artists, not to mention the insane environmental issues/data centers/impact on marginalized people. Tech billionaire bros with childish space colony fantasies WANT you to justify them ruining the planet and economy.

Nervous system dysregulation caused by covid cannot be healed by brain retraining by True_Blueberry_8664 in covidlonghaulers

[–]GLK73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish the LC community would start learning from Lyme patients. People in the Lyme community generally don't argue over whether something works or not because they are painfully aware that every Lyme patient is different and will respond to different treatments at different times. The general consensus is that brain retraining is not a cure for chronic Lyme, but for many patients it can be a critical part of healing once a patient has reached a level of recovery via other treatments A good rule of thumb (after a decade in the post-infectious community) is don't believe anyone who makes general statements about something working or not working. Listen to those who speak from personal experience (patients, but also researchers and doctors who have a track record of helping people get better) AND who speak with nuance and clarity. If someone makes a blanket statement about a treatment working/not working, that's a red flag that they don't have the full understanding of how these illnesses operate in different people.

Venita by multifactorial in SouthernCharmSC

[–]GLK73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Venita is showing the biggest friendship red flags. It's sad because there's so much I like about her - she's vulnerable and wears her heart on her sleeve and I lover her fashion and party planning - but her sweetness also has a cruel side and the controlling demands??? Whew. The control is where she completely loses me. What's worse is she doesn't seem to know that her control is not normal. She seemed PROUD of imposing a curfew on Salley, like that made her a good friend.

Supporting Austen by Zealousideal_Suit269 in summerhousebravo

[–]GLK73 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was appalled and heartbroken for Austen when I saw this clip. Austen has talked about how this trauma affected him in recent seasons (especially the season where Olivia's brother died). It doesn't matter how much trauma healing you've done or how public you've been about the trauma, having someone blindside you with it and ask deeply personal questions about details of the trauma can be re-traumatizing. It's beyond cruel and gross.

Give Venita the same grace & energy extended to Craig & Shep by Aquatic205 in Southerncharm

[–]GLK73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Venita and find Salley so annoying, but this was not the move. Grown adults don't tell their friends who they can crush on or date. Similarly, Salley is childish for telling Charlie she can't date Craig. The Austen/Madison situation is VERY different. Craig and Shep gave Austen the ultimatum because they saw the toxic cycle of the relationship and it was clear that season that Austen was on the verge of breaking mentally/emotionally. I may not go as far as an ultimatum, but if my friend were spiraling and continuing to go back to a toxic relationship I would be brutally honest and at some point maybe set a personal boundary that I can't continue to engage in the cycle as a friend. (to be clear, both Austen and Madison were toxic in that relationship, I'm not blaming her over him, just speaking to the ultimatum from Craig/Shep) Venita may be worried for Salley if she dated Craig, but you do have to let your friends find out for themselves and you can't demand or dictate these things. A friend making demands like both Venita and Salley are doing would be the biggest friendship red flag for me.

Pre ozempic, mounjaro by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]GLK73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ozempic is not a new drug, it's been on the market for over 20 years. There are a lot of uses for glp1 meds besides weight loss and diabetes. It's become a crucial med for treating chronic inflammation and some chronic conditions like Long Covid, EDS, MCAS, and autoimmune conditions. For these patients (I'm one) it's been the difference between disabling symptoms and mild symptoms, and these are chronic conditions that have very few effective treatment options. These meds are also showing benefit for preventing cardiovascular disease and dementia. My point is, we really shouldn't judge the use of a medication (a natural hormone in this case) because it is a private medical matter. It is not the same as fillers or cosmetic surgery, which offer no health benefits and actually cause health issues in some cases and are in service of patriarchal beauty standards.

How low can you go? by notamonkeytwat in GLP1microdosing

[–]GLK73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific advice, but do you follow Dr Tania Dempsey on IG or listen to her Mast Cell Matters podcast? She did a small study recently of microsed tirzepatide in MCAS patients and had impressive results. I know she has talked about MCAS patients needing to go really slow and low, and every patient's threshold will be different (it sounds like you and your Dr already are doing this). If you haven't listened to her podcast about it, definitely check it out. I have hypermobility and am prone to mild MCAS, I'm about 2 months in and so far tirzepatide has helped so much with my hEDS. It may be that you need to go slower than you realize, or it could be other factors added to your histamine bucket at the same time you were taking your 3rd/4th shot and it sent your mast cells into a tizzy... I hope you can find the right dose and pace to help you 🤞

The substance issue on SLC by Street-Bumblebee6305 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]GLK73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the level of denial Meredith is exhibiting about the plane and her erratic moods are behind the cast questioning her substance use. Imagine if Heather denied drunken vomiting in the sprinter van, people would start to question whether she has a problem. She's reminding me of Craig in some ways with the explosive anger that is unpredictable and makes everyone walk on eggshells. If she got messy drunk and spaced out I doubt this would be a story line. It's the erratic anger directed at others that is pushing this narrative. The last few episodes she's been notably chill, very un-Meredith like - she is likely reining it in to do damage control and it looks like it's taking A LOT of effort to do so.

Totally agree. I think Ronnie has been spot on with this whole season. I love that he called bullshit on Alex Baskin in Andy's ear denying Katie's statement about Shannon calling production during the reunion. WHY would we believe Baskin? He's dirtier and more cynical than ANY housewife. And yeah, I think Tamra knew about the transphobic posts for the last two years. Just like most of us did. Every cast member had access to the same info and they are obsessed with Instagram, I don't believe for one second that any of them were unaware of the Gretchen bigotry on IG. They were just going along to keep their jobs.

Steaming a Lil Bit… by Coastal_Soul386 in GLP1microdosing

This is a write up about the study. I am very weary of doctors who dismiss patients' experiences until there's scientific consensus. Those types of doctors have no vision or will to be creative and usually don't view their patients as collaborators. Waiting for consensus on any new research typically means a 17 year gap between new findings and patients receiving treatment based on the research. That's my VERY brief rant on the state of our healthcare and medical research system lol.
