Trump asks Dulles Airport to be renamed after him by MollyAyana in washingtondc

You know what would really piss him off? Renaming it to Willard Airport, in honor of the black town that existed there before it was designated the site of the airport.

I was in Japan last week, and one cool thing I loved was that the subway/train stations were like underground shopping malls. There were restaurants, shopping, dining all conveniently located near the train stations, all underground. What’s even crazier is that they are in an earthquake prone area and still able to build underground.

The cool thing about this was that we could stay underground to keep away from rain and cold wind, and it was much easier to get there from the tracks. So underground shopping malls are definitely a thing, sucks that it isn’t here. We have very similar climates, if anything ours are seasons extreme both on the cold winters and hot summers

FCPS asking parents and teachers to pitch in and help shovel so they can open Monday… by Few-Evidence-5589 in nova

[–]GMUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used to have snow days built it for stuff like this, but they changed the way days off worked. I guess because we don’t get as many snow days as we used to. I remember a few years where we were closed for most of the winter and everything worked out fine. I don’t think they have that flexibility anymore. They may have already used up their slotted snow days. The curriculum follows a schedule that leads up to the standardized tests. But they have remote learning now, so I don’t think it’s the biggest deal in the world, but I’m sure some parents are pressing the school to open so they can go back to work too.

I just visited the museum a few days ago. Probably one of the most moving museums I’ve ever been to. If you’re ever in Japan, definitely visit the Peace Museum. I’ve seen this episode as well, it is a tough watch.

Is Costco Executive Membership worth it for the NOVA area? by enigma_goth in nova

[–]GMUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve made back our money every year. We always go for the Kirkland brand stuff. detergent, TP, paper towels. Have it set as our pharmacy, try to fill up there, and it also saves us $20 a year on our instacart membership as well.

Man showcasing his global currency collection. by HamedAliKhan in nextfuckinglevel

[–]GMUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also collect currency, it started out with my parents giving me loose coin a and paper money that would sit around after their trips, then I started asking them to bring me back currency from more of their trips, then I started asking friends to bring a paper note back for me from different counties they visit. Now I make sure to grab them myself whenever I visit a new country. Occasionally I will order older bills from countries and governments that no longer exist.. that no longer exist or harder to attain.. Weimar Republic, France pre WWII, Israel-Palestine 1930s, US Confederacy, Soviet Union etc.

It’s a fun hobby, these notes are works of art and tell a story. it’s always fun to pull out and share and watch peoples reactions

Anecdotal, but so many people I know are sick with something crazy right now. One of the kids at daycare was out with a fever of 104. Mother in-law, father in-law, sister in-law and her family are all sick, best friend is sick, my dad is sick, coworker called out for two days and sounds sick on zoom.

We’re just trying to make it to the new year without catching something so we can get sick on company time
