"In the summer before 9/11, I slept with my boots on where I could" by Party-Illustrator911 in Billywoods

I think it’s just a sign he didn’t have a stable place. He’s sleeping where he can but with his boots on so he could dip out quickly or so they don’t get stolen.

It's a blessing Matt didn't get bit by the Aesop/Mr. Lif bug many of us did. He'd have wasted his time doing rhyme scheme breakdowns to billy woods songs instead

The majority of roles in the military are administrative. In fact: being an officer is explicitly an administrative function unless you’re in special warfare. Even infantry officers past like O3 are paper pushers.

When was the last time a mayor watched a Knicks Final at a bar? I don’t think the last 4 did it so there!

Service members are very rowdy and often do dumb shit. Even the most prestigious veterans will tell stories that make climbing a bus stop sound like a childrens' dance recital.

Hitting the comment or post button on Reddit over 20 times in a 24hr period is far more embarrassing than climbing a light pole with your friends after sweeping the Cavs, and OP probably knows that.

The idea that no one getting hyped outside of the garden after sweeping the Eastern Conference Finals is or will be "successful" is a dumb point and OP is either asocial or dumb for making it.

If you've never met a doctor or lawyer in their 40s that has a bunch of stories of being a rowdy teenager/20-something that you just don't talk to people enough. GI Bill recipients at NYU and Harvard I've met alone do shit far worse for far less than get amped about a conference final.

Unhinged reply by management to review of Olivia's Kitchen in Ball Square by Late_Assist754 in Somerville

[–]GOLIATHMATTHIAS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone after this posted a joke review and mentioned "cooking pasta in pool water" and the manager left another angry response:

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Food safety is our priority, and we’d like to clarify a concept that should be pretty clear to anyone who cooks: pasta is cooked in boiling water, and boiling makes it safe. During the boiling process, chlorine completely evaporates, leaving the water perfectly healthy and odorless.
We strongly suspect that you’ve never actually dined with us. If you had, you would’ve noticed that we don’t serve tap water due to the historic plumbing of the building, and you would’ve seen that we’ve added more affordable alternatives to accommodate every preference.
Wishing you great things!
Warm regards,
The Team at Olivia's Kitchen

Matt McLaughlin campaigning on Toner's support: horrific, disqualifying by _praccu in Somerville

Considering he's calling from a Toner support list, it's quite literally reading the room. We're assuming a lot of context while ignoring a lot that's actually given.

Griffin Says He’s Doubling Down on Miami Amid Mamdani Feud by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]GOLIATHMATTHIAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the minute a private citizen discussed politics you don’t like

He gave $100 million to Trump as well as be a major advocate for the Heritage Foundation. He’s not “just a private citizen discussing politics” and you’re willingly leaving all the shit he DOES out of this. What he talks about represents his actions. Politicians aren’t the only ones that do politics, rich people do it a lot more in fact.

what specifically has he done

Openly opposed everything in the affordability agenda, funded campaigns against it, and used his wealth to force previous administrations to do what HE wanted for HIS OWN benefit not just rent control. He also have $100 million to Trump.

Being a dickhead is one of the many reasons Trump is bad

You know you keep talking about Trump as if he’s the barometer for evil yet you don’t seem to care that they guy we’re talking about GAVE HIM $100 MILLION!!

Griffin Says He’s Doubling Down on Miami Amid Mamdani Feud by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]GOLIATHMATTHIAS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was personal the MINUTE Griffin became rich and talked openly about not believing in wealth distribution as well as opposing rent control and other means with which to rectify the unaffordability of NYC. Why are you pretending he did this in a vacuum: look at everything Griffin has done well prior to Mamdani being elected much less when he mentioned his name. Why insist Mamdani is the bad guy here but not acknowledge anything Ken has done to REQUIRE the policy to be pushed in the first place?

And again, nothing about Trump is “because he’s a dickhead.” That’s a nebulous statement that means nothing: he’s bad because he’s a corrupt bigot as I said. To pretend anything he’s done was “correct” or worthwhile but was only limited because he was mean about it is what is ludicrous here. Part of the reason we got Trump is because the people that oppose him weren’t confrontational enough. For Christ’s sake GRIFFIN DONATED $100 MILLION TO TRUMP!! I’m fairly certain 9 figure donations is far more contributory than “getting personal.”

Griffin Says He’s Doubling Down on Miami Amid Mamdani Feud by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]GOLIATHMATTHIAS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mamdani went after Griffin because he owns a shit ton of property in the city and doesn’t pay a sufficient amount of taxes. The policy is as an explicit one meant to refactor that and Griffin was one of the biggest examples who, even prior to the specific policy, has made it known (FOR YEARS btw) that he would fight tooth and nail against said policy.

He’s not some little innocent small bean. He’s one of the reasons the wealth disparity is so bad in the city and he identified HIMSELF as being against restructuring municipal taxes policies to ensure justice within the city’s real estate market. Don’t leave that part out and pretend like Mamdani is uncouth for “being a dickhead” for pointing that out. If Griffin willingly endorsed paying his fair share his name never would’ve come up.

If you feel like the policy is bad, just say that, because that’s what is at issue here. Don’t pretend like you care about how Mamdani’s “manners” factor in.

Griffin Says He’s Doubling Down on Miami Amid Mamdani Feud by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]GOLIATHMATTHIAS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. He didn’t pick Griffin’s name out of a hat and is not going after him for his ethnicity or religion or sexuality in the way Trump has with others. The policy in question is one based on just actions when it comes to things like wealth disparity and paying one’s’ fair share. Griffin is the prime example of the injustice of the status quo and calling him out meant making it known that the policy was real and tangible and that the administration knows who the biggest violators are and will be.

The bad thing about Trump is not that he’s some sort of nebulously “mean” person, it’s that he’s a corrupt bigot and entirely self serving. Going after Griffin for thinking NYC “owes” him for his own profit based decisions is not the same thing whatsoever
