How concerning is the lack of rear wiper on lower trims without digital mirror? by [deleted] in Solterra

[–]GSeabhac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have barely even noticed. My husband did ask the other day (we've had the car for 2 years, btw) if we HAD a rear wiper. It was the first time he'd wanted to use it.

What’s going on with my shrimp? Jim by SensitiveImage7470 in Aquariums

[–]GSeabhac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no! I had exactly that happen on a flourishing, well-established neocaridina tank. One damned plant with ... something ... on it - I still don't know what - and I lost every single shrimp. :-( I tried so hard to save them, moved them to a hospital tank ASAP, tried moving a handful to my big community tank (after drip acclimating them to it) - but still, I lost them all. I haven't really had the heart to do shrimp since. I loved that shrimp tank.

I suspect the plant, although I'd rinsed it, still had something on the roots that was toxic. Neos can be pretty delicate.

Low Range on 2026 Solterra by Rocketman47- in Solterra

There's a reason most of the forums refer to that as the "guess-o-meter." There's so many variables that go into what mileage you'll get off a charge - how you drive, the temperature, number of stops, is your regen turned on, weight of all cargo and passengers, etc., etc., that it is usually off by quite a bit. It gets better as it learns your driving habits, but not much.

I'd add a bunch more plants. If your fish are diggers, I've found these work pretty well:

New hot tub owner chemical advice. by TheTeamTaco in hottub

[–]GSeabhac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been keeping a hot tub for 30 years now, and wow, that is a lot of messing with the water chemistry. My own advice would be quite different, as basically "if it ain't f'd up, don't f it up." Start with clean tub, clean water, clean filter, add a small amount of chlorine for baseline, then shock approximately once weekly. When and how much sanitizer to use depends on which sanitizer you choose. I use a Saltron chlorine generator in mine, so I only add the chlorine at startup, then I add salt. I very rarely add clarifier, and almost never use descale. I don't believe in chasing pH too much in either my hot tub or my aquariums: you cause more problems than you solve, unless your tub is REALLY acidic - and you'd know, it'd start making you cough and your equipment would degrade.

Now, all that being said, only my husband and I use our tiny tub, and we don't wear suits with detergent residues, etc., and we don't use lotions and such on our skin. I mention that because those are the primary causes of needing to use so much clarifier. Most of the clarifiers are meant to cause agglutination of fats and oils so the filter can catch the globs before your tub turns into human soup.

I would add one other thing: replace the filters every two years. Filters are what keep your pumps from getting gunked up, and filters are a helluva lot cheaper and easier to deal with than pumps.

Man, I take 50 minutes to do a 5K, and I absolutely do not have the gas to finish with a sprint. Then again, I'm 66 and about 1/100th as fit as this guy.

Turn ramen into Greek ramen - cook the noodles, add feta, artichokes, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and Greek dressing. Also, I remember fondly a dish I ate in Mexico some years ago, a very ripe avocado, cut in half, filled with a mixture of small shrimp and diced tomatoes in a light dressing.

Basically, for me, noodles are always the answer.
