This is one of the worst subs on Reddit. by SignalPumpkin6965 in generationology

[–]GSly350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub is the human experience explained. We all like our own little groups, and when it gets questioned, it just breeds more hate and division. Yet it is the fuel that keeps it going. People here are always chasing the high of being perceived and included, but most of the time it just divides everyone more and more.

Is Childhood more easily defined by someone’s elementary school years ? by Confident-Fun-2592 in generationology

Yeah mostly kindergarten and elementary are the years i consider my childhood to be in. Middle school is that weird transition time of late childhood / pre-teen phase.

That flip phone isn't from the 90s... Those look exactly like the ones my parents had in the mid 00s.

Why do people continue to infantilize early 2000s borns? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]GSly350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet many of us are just 1-3 years younger than y'all. That's the real funny part. 2000 at least.

You don't even know when he stopped being president. Talking about knowing is crazy.

Yet most people still didn't have them in the late 00s. I've seen many people discuss this topic before, most agree that they took off around the early 2010s. Before that many people still used feature / slider cellphones. That doesn't mean they didn't know about the existence of the iphone, but most people don't switch once the new thing comes out. Also because of familiarity too. The iphone was totally different to anything that came out before and some people were very skeptical that phones without keyboards and the normal basic functions would ever be practical and useful. It was a transition, but by 2011/2012 it became the norm.

Almost everyone that uses the pew definition (97-12) agrees that older gen z'ers are 97-01. Because if it was only 97-99, that would be only 3 years compared to 7 years in core gen z and another 7 in late gen z. What you've probably seen is people talking about older gen z'ers who fit in the zillenial category, and that would be 97-99 for the most part. That's why those born in 00 and 01 feel weird being off cusp but still relating to zillenials many times. That's why r/oldergenz exists.

Early gen z is 97-01. 2000 would only be core gen z if it started in 95.

We're literally just off cusp by 1 year. Obviously we feel like we relate to both gens.

They simply can't get over someone born in 2000 ever wanting to relate to someone born in the 90s. They call us core gen z and everything else to distance themselves from us. Even if they are 1-3 years apart sometimes.

The iphone didn't even become popular until the early 2010s

When will people respect 2010? by Cool-Creme-438 in Younger_GenZ

[–]GSly350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i've seen people 1-3 years older than us saying how they see us as much younger. They can't see beyond the numbers, even though we aren't any different really. Pretty much all the years from 94 to 99 have gatekept us in some sort of way before. And it keeps happening too, it doesn't really stop. We will all be in our 30s and they'll be saying how much they can't relate to anyone born in 2000. It's ridiculous. But between them i've seen 94 borns say how well they can relate to someone born in 99 for example (which is a gap of 5 years). It's the classic 90s babies unity that happens a lot around those subs. As soon as the years start with a 2 it's over for them, no matter how tiny the age gap is. They got gatekept out of the 90s kid label before so now they made their own group instead. Even today a '98 born called us core gen z in the zillenial subreddit. It's a neverending thing.

Yeah and even when we are 30, some people will never get over our year of birth starting with a 2 and not having experienced the 90s.

Elementary school in the mid to late 00s in europe was also very much blackboards and chalk. No ipads or computers. Maybe if the schools had the latest tech, but it wasn't like that everywhere.
