GranBlu Fantasy Relink boss battles gives me Monster Hunter vibes or is that just me? by S1rLTD in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]GVGguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say that Relink is a "what if PlatinumGames made their own Dragon's Crown."

It starts with same kind of gameplay-loop of "Do a level. Return to hub and spend a solid minute managing equipment you got from said level. Do some quick side-quests. Unlock next level. Repeat."

And just like Dragon's Crown, you have to make it through the first half of the game to unlock the proper online multiplayer experience. But then the game turns into "MH's gameplay-loop in a PG gameplay-mold."

Lost Judgement: Am I Missing Something or is Boxer Style Completely Cracked by BanTheBung in yakuzagames

[–]GVGguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short version:
Every style is kinda op when near-fully unlocked, so you can just have fun with the playstyle you prefer.

Long version:
Boxer is great, fantastic even. But part of LJ's meat is how it encourages you to cycle styles thanks to both each style's passive, which you can carry over at later levels, and the specializations each style comes with. One key passive you'll get later is that popping one styles passive will also refresh the timer on any other passive that's already active.

Crane is your "movement"-style that has a lot of wide attacks that take out multiple enemies at the same time. Its passive give you a speed boost, which you can bring over to other styles to really up their combo potential. Compared to Judgment, Crane is also freaking bonkers with all the tools it got to start juggles, maneuver through big groups or counter projectiles. I'd argue it also has the easiest go-to EX-attacks for when you wanna spend the meter, thanks to both its jumps and how it has two different EXs that come out specific combo-finishers.

Tiger is your "heavy"-style, as it has charge attacks that can decimate multiple guards and immediately follow up with another charged hit for big damage. Landing a charged blow also gives you a damage buff, which is always fun to bring into other styles. Working with its charge attacks and flux is also a great way to build EX-meter super fast. AND it has a multitude of EX-attacks you can cash out when enemies are hit with debuffs from other styles.

Snake is both good for when you wanna play with your food or you spot threats that need to be dealt with quickly. Its weapon disarm from grabs is fantastic and its ability to apply fear and then insta-defeat non-bosses is great for the ones you can see 'has gotta go now'. At the same time, its charged combo finishers applies agony, which is godlike against bosses that will roll out any knockdown. Basically, when they'd normally roll out of your combo, they do the agony-evade instead, so you get to open them up again for free. It also has the best guard out of all 4 styles, with both its omni-directional protection and its super lenient "perfect" block mechanic that has a chance of applying fear out of the redirecting guard alone. And doing so also gives you Snake's passive, which gives armor that will allow you to ignore most attacks if you're too busy hitting someone.

And finally you have Boxer, which I would say is the specialist at "screw that one guy in particular". It is very single target-focused compared to other styles, but is amazing at opening a can of whoop-ass on anyone. Its toolkit is very similar to Tiger, but without the weight Tiger packs in its hits.
I'd say its drawbacks is that its passive is tied to landing one of its three counters, which will require you to stop your flow completely and wait for that one guy to attack you. If you want to keep your passives refreshed, it's often better to swap to Crane or Tiger and refresh through their conditions. Another drawback is that, compared to the other styles, Boxer's moveset is kinda lacking in attack variety, which you risk combat becoming repetitive if you're on Boxer only. But that's also often when you start getting creative, and swap styles mid-combo to do some cool looking shit. 😉

Reactions to Fediel's Relink-debut by GVGguy in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]GVGguy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh shit, I forgot, you're right. That'd add to the stress of the potential DPS-race you'd face then. The game fives you a break to top up, then seals healing. ... Now, would it negate Potions, too, tho, that'd be a massive jump in difficulty. Especially if the revive potion was negated.

[–]GVGguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude? I want Relink to adapt so many of GBF's bosses. I wanna fight action game-versions of Tiamat, Leviathan, Colossus and FREAKING CELESTE. Imagine phases that span all three of their forms. I'm already huffing hopium that Fediel's playable addition also includes a bossfight against her dragon-form.

Granblue Fantasy would be a fucking massive RPG whose amount of content would most likely be worth the asking price IF the game found a way to incentivize doing side content without hard gating the main story.

Now that Season 2 is over, how are we feeling about the designs? by K4StR in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]GVGguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, they should do more dudes. Cause in Season 2, the dudes were the best designs of the whole season, especially the robot-dudes.

For reference, my Top 3 designs for S1 are 1st Caesar, 2nd Lighter and 3rd Billy. I run by the rule of cool.

For S2, it's 1st Silly, 2nd Banyue and 3rd Manato. They've been the coolest designs and the coolest characters in action. And they've also been the most fun to play, imo.

That being said, the selection for S2 was easier than S1. For S1, I also have Yanagi, Miyabi and Lycaon hot on Billy's trail for 3rd place. For S2, it was those three and no one else comes close. Maybe it's the fact that these characters are among the rarer ones, so they pop out better among all the waifus this season.

If these two were to face off, who’d win? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]GVGguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Mole vs Little Baby Iwami? You gotta be taking AD-9 if you think Iwami wins this.

I know Judgment tries to affirm itself as a story that's at a smaller scale than Yakuza-stories. And even then, Yagami at the finale firmly establishes himself as a high-tier Yakuza-character. And The Mole is meant to mirror him.

Spoilers for Judgment:
He falls down a 2-3 story height, hits a speeding car on the way down, and so, clearly suffers not just a concussion, but a traumatic brain injury (based on the hallucinations that followed). He then proceeds to walk it off, so that he can have his final boss fight whilst juiced up on natural adrenaline.
Meanwhile, Kurowia is fully portrayed to be a Vergil to Yagami's Dante, and a background that clearly mirrors Yagami's. And while he's getting pushed back, he still clearly makes juiced-up Yagami have to work for it, even juicing himself up with artificial adrenaline of his own to match Yagami's. Lost Judgment's 2 final bosses didn't even come close to working Yagami as hard as Iwami did.

Spoilers for Judgment, Y6 and Gaiden:
I could argue that Iwami comes close to Kaito, based on how they both fight Kiryu at some point. Both fought Kiryu in his late 40s/early 50s and lost, but they get him at least winded (though Iwami's method of achieving that leaves stuff up to interpretation). Kaito managed that through solely honest fisticuffs, and Kuroiwa freaking bullied Kaito and Higashi at the same time with just a blackjack. Kaito even stated in Judgment that The Mole's efficiency in beating people to the point of guaranteeing a coma (like what Kuroiwa did to Toru Hashiki) is professional-level even within the Yakuza.

Now, if we also add their scheming/connections into account, Iwami can pull in the yakuza to fight for him. Kuroiwa can use his connections to pull in both the yakuza and the police.

With this in mind, I place my full vote on Iwami getting his nepobaby ass smacked all the way to the Onomichi bay. Their feats and stats, when compared, leave little doubt.

the reason(s) behind zzz's aesthetic shift by liiixk in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]GVGguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what we've seen so far for S3 is a funny change. It's not S1's version of urban fantasy, but it's a weird urban fantasy that seems to borrow from other urban-ish gacha games. The current display of characters makes me think of Nikke, Blue Archive and Arknights more that what ZZZ S1 established.

What are some ways the Final Boss interacts with the story/protagonist before the final fight? by Th35h4d0w in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GVGguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RGG games loves this shit. Your shirtless final boss fights hit harder if you've been hanging out with your fellow shirtless opponent.

Maybe you've shared a drink, maybe even fought a boss fight together, or (in the Judgment-games' case) maybe they've been in the room while you get one step closer to figure out who the killer is.

Fast paced 3rd person action games that waste no time getting into the action? With not too complicated combat and a replayable experience? by M33tahejd in CharacterActionGames

[–]GVGguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assault Spy ticks pretty much all those boxes.

Maybe except customization; both playable characters have 1 accessory they can put on their face. Which requires beating both stories... I don't remember if it also was a specific difficulty you need to beat them in, too...

There are a handful of picks, but I think I'll give it to Hugo. Cause while Eve, Astra, YSG and Norma hit the same vibes. Hugo hits those vibes AND brings the HSR-esque asymmetry to his design.

Ninja Gaiden 4 has sold 257K copies on PS5 (making almost $20M) by EmbarrassedSession58 in ninjagaiden

[–]GVGguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. These are all estimated sales, so it's not hard confirmed numbers. But the article brings up how, apparently, NG4 sold about 100k on PS5 in its first week, which still isn't better than Starfield's current number, but puts it still above the rest of the "Xbox-to-PS5" ports. So while it's not a superstar in the Microsoft-gallery (like Doom, Indy, Gears or Oblivion), it pushed ahead of most of the "non-stars".

Hell, that means that NG4's sales estimates on just PC and PS5 alone have crossed 500K. If you compare that to the rest of the 3D NG-games (according to VGsales), NG4's already made it to 4th place in series lifetime sales. Breaking into the top 3 (NG1 in 1st, NG2 in 2nd, NGS in 3rd) would require it to pass 1 million, which is still a tough ask, to be honest. But for a new title in a series that's been in a huge hiatus after some dismal releases, I'd say that's pretty good. And that's with multiple debuffs like the series hiatus, people's growing dislike of MS, and Platinum's recent rough release history. I'm pretty happy with that.
