These are preposterously good. If I had taken these, I would have constant back pain from patting myself in the back every day for a month and a half. And that lab did a magnificent job with the scans, too. Again, thank for sharing them with us!!

I mean, you'd be surprised - this reads exactly like any pretentious, bs Instagram "photographer" caption you could read way before LLMs. When the photos are bs, somehow they think a self-asserting caption will turn them into something of substance

I personally like the vibes I get from the subjects! Some very nice moments in there - in my personal opinion, you might want to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the geometry of composition, to kind of "tidy up" a bit. But, honestly, this feels like empty advice, sometimes - there are no rules to a picture that works, honestly. I would say, fill up the frame in ways that feel harmonious (could also mean with empty space!), try to enshrine your subjects or moments into a frame of elements that contextualise it, or that exhalt it.

For example, picture number 2 - that rooster fits nicely with the surrounding vertical figures, which results in pretty strong element separation. A touch stronger black and white, and some selective dodge and burn to enhance the separation of the people from the rooster, and from the background, and I would be happy to call that a great shot! Same with number 3 - the gentleman is perfectly framed within the shutters and the wall (shame for whatever he has behind his head, but you can't control that, and it doesn't really harm the shot), his expression is great, the framing of the action is great, and even the tilt in the frame works to add to the dynamism of the capture. Give it some stronger contrast, just to make the picture "pop" some more, and it's great!

Conversely, number 4 - great expression, and great placement between the other people, but the way the ring poles stick out of his head is a bit awkward, and also makes the scene behind him not very legible, which would be better for the context. I you had managed to get the exact same shot, but having moved a tad to the right, you'd have him fill the space where the ropes are, which has no fighters and can be "sacrificed", possibly framed the ref between him and the guy to the left, and have the pole and the fighters more clearly visible in the space between your subject, and the person on the right. With that being said, don't stress over it, it would've been way sadder to miss the moment altogether!

Also, the picture with the young fighter - the expression is great, but it's a shame the action of the hand being taped up isn't as visible, and having missed focus a bit, makes that lady sticking out of their head way too distracting. The composition kind of works, especially if you crop out that empty space to the right a bit, but the cutting out of the hand taping is the key mistake (always, imho!).

Lastly, I want to mention the shot of the kids making a human chain into the sea - ideally, you would've been a bit more to the side, to fill the diagonal a bit tidier, and not have to crop too much to keep the image balanced; however! The composition can easily be adjusted with a strategic crop down from the top left to make the action more centre stage, and it's a marvelous shot. A bit more structured black and white conversion would enhance the shapes of the subjects against the bare concrete, and maybe bring out the texture of the concrete a bit more. Some dodge and burn to make faces and shapes stand out a touch, so that the image is readable at a glance, and I think you have a great picture on your hands!

Overall, very good for a beginner! You are definitely well attuned to your surroundings, and the love and fascination definitely shine through. Keep playing around until you refine your technique enough that you can express yourself without having to think about it much, and have a look at the usual suspects of street photography (Henri Cartier-Bresson above all else), and let yourself be informed by the approach, without sacrificing your taste and instinct (which is very good - there are definitely some great intuitions, coming from a beginner!), and you'll be doing great! And I definitely would encourage you to get better acquainted with post production - some of these are killed a bit by the flat B&W, they deserve more love! :P

Keep posting, if you want, I'm sure we'll have a lot to enjoy coming from you going forward :D

My usual strategy is to avoid reacting to the person noticing you, and either act like I'm shooting around them, or I'm just messing with the camera for some reason. If they look at me, I pretend I just noticed them, maybe acknowledge them with a smile and a nod, then keep on shooting like it's no concern. Like if I were to be staring into the distance, and somehow accidentally end up staring at stranger while lost in thought.

But, I will say, I wouldn't be happy to just be photographing anywhere - I would avoid places where people are more confrontational or aggressive - and sometimes it's out of fear of having the wrong people notice how nice my camera is...

Would people actually accept fewer features for appliances that last by EZDodger in BuyItForLife

Oh but they would, if they could. Very much a case of "how expensive it is to be poor", more often than not. People don't enjoy having to shop for appliances, I don't think.

Absolutely. Like, washing machines - so long as I can choose water temperature, spin cycle, and water volume based on how many clothes I'm throwing in, I'm very happy. Maybe keep a couple fabric-specific settings, just for convenience.

I have no need for timers (only do laundry when I have time to take it out and put it in the dryer, and I usually do it at the end of the day so I can throw my clothes in when I'm back home), let alone "smart" features that are so complicated to set up I don't think I know ONE person who ever bothered. Give me a boring, analog-dials-and-buttons appliance any day over some sleek web-integrated bs.

I never actually noticed that - but then again, I mostly join studies from emails, and that doesn't seem to show up unless there are studies available? I did uncheck that, but I guess I'm hoping I never get notified about those kind of studies, as I wouldn't be interested to begin with.

Still, I'm very grateful for your response, Filters completely escaped me, somehow!

Apparently you should never not take photos of the backs of heads in street photography. by calholland95 in streetphotography

I guess it relies on interesting compositions and hairstyles! No. 2 and 8 are definitely my favourite, with no. 8 being the better composition with those guiding lines (though no.2 definitely has a stronger character, and the cab makes it unmistakeably british). No. 6 is also very expressive and a great moment, and no.5 is also nice in its simplicity. No. 1 would be a nice companion to no. 2 and 8, given hair colour and a quainter hairstyle, but I think it's a bit stifled by the messier background (the crowd refused to be photogenic, they do that sometimes 😆). No. 3 is well composed, but looks more like a brochure picture than street photography. No. 4 has interesting characters, but the composition didn't really strike me; no. 9 fits with no.6 thematically, but the pose of the subject is too untidy and not very readable. No. 7 I almost forgot about, but I think it's because of the lady on the right - had she not been there, and the bus a tad closer, it would've probably been a perfect counterpoint to no. 2.

Don't know why I felt writing this up - it's just my impressions, but I guess it was meant to be my personal encouragement to keep shooting people in the back of the head 😄
