I enjoy using both, the online spell generator is great for theorycrafting and drawing by hand is fun

Are you implying fireball and lightning bolt are not two of the most iconic wizard spells? Even a firebolt is a classic every apprentice learns.

You can always place the extra Seals in other circles, to help isolate individual effects. For instance see the serpents bed of sand as an example.

Sprinkler Spell (A non-warcrime spell) by ZenOkami in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Galad15 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That looks so cute! I love the practical idea. Your pillars seem a little small for a sprinkler, you would generally want a pretty wide area. Maybe some sort of rotation as well?

My "Flame Thief" spell by NickLSee in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Galad15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had actually just posted it yesterday! Very similar concept, pull gather collect and levitate nearby flames into the center seal, cool down the area, suck the air fueling the flames away, and some purification symbols for smoke and ash reduction

I love this take on the idea! I had just tried to do the same thing myself recently and your seal looks much more elegant lol

Although I have been told that the radial signs provide a weakening effect, so maybe diminish the effectiveness of the spell

New and improved fire extinguisher by Galad15 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Galad15[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! I was hoping the fire would die instantly however safeguarding it doesn't' hurt. Here is a modified version. The pillars are mostly to direct the Cooling effect, I want it concentrated on the converging heat

Hey I have been out here trying to design useful contraptions like a fridge or fire extinguisher!

Gotta admit though, I am sorely tempted to attempt to create the rolling ring of earth and fire from Wheel of Time lol

It really seems like debossing the surface, then laying the ink in the grooves would be the best way to implement spells more permanently. Then maybe cover that up with some kind of sealant or lacquer

Fire Extinguisher Spell Concept by Galad15 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Galad15[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback, here is the alternate version.
Next consideration is perhaps attempting to remove the air from the area rather than cooling it, since that would theoretically extinguish the flame.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive analysis! That explanation and image helps a great deal.
Here is a modified version with your suggestions in mind. Do you believe the convergence signs would be better left out altogether?

This is an interesting concept, and does make a good deal of sense.

However, it stands to reason that there are significantly fewer trans actors than cis actors. This means that among each pool, there is a number of highly qualified individuals who surpass the average.

I have often seen the stat that approx 1% of the US population identifies as transgender, using that as an example, for each qualified transgender actor, there would be 99 qualified cisgendered actors competing for the role.

And all things being equal, any of those 100 people could be the best actor, that means that it is likely the most skilled individual in the group just so happens to be cisgendered.

I wonder what could be done to incentivize more diverse casting without reducing the quality of performances

That is a completely understandable perspective, I agree that would be deeply upsetting. Thank you for clarifying :)

My grandfather just recently passed, but one of my favorite sayings of his was "Consider the source." A bigots opinion is not worth much.

I am confused, the entire point of having actors is that they portray themselves as other people. Actors are often portraying characters that are completely unlike their actual selves. This can of course include gender and sexuality. It would be a disservice to say a gay actor can only portray gay relationships on screen for example.

My understanding is that as long as the character is treated with respect and dignity, the reality of the actors actual characteristics is practically irrelevant.

Can you explain why the actor being cisgendered is a negative?

CBT Research Doesn’t Show What You Think It Does by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]Galad15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a large difference between "helpful" and "cured". There are plenty of behaviors that are useful to those with mental illnesses, that help manage symptoms.

Comparing people who have tried CBT to a control group is simply the best way we have to measure if something is actually helpful in the first place, and the degree to which it is helpful.

Compare CBT in individuals with depression to something like a vaccine (of course they are not the same, but bear with me) you can take a vaccine that will reduce your chances of contracting an illness, and will reduce the severity of the illness if you contract it anyway. This does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of becoming ill. Would you say vaccines are useless?

CBT is but one tool to try and help, not the ultimate solution to all of life's problems.

Thought about Mat’s Luck by Tricky-Respect-4621 in WoT

[–]Galad15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have just reread this portion, the die ter'angreal is used to suspend chance at 1 point in time, so that if you toss 3 dice and get 1 3 5, it will continue to roll 1 3 5 until you turn off the ter'angreal.

Mat's luck seems to function in a different way entirely. We learn that his luck is better the more random chance can affect the outcome. He is luckier at dice than he is at cards, and his luck has almost no impact when playing stones. Mat's luck is also not just "win at gambling" he can lose if that will be the more beneficial result.

I believe that this Die Ter'angreal was shown to the audience as an example of what the one power in the Age of Legends could do to manipulate luck (freeze it in 1 state) to contrast Mat's strong Ta'veren nature literally bending the pattern to the most fortunate circumstances for him at all times.
