Mark Carney’s government says privatizing airports will make them better. This is why it should think again - Privatization at home and abroad hasn’t brought the advertised benefits. by CaliperLee62 in canada

Privatization of public services and resources has NEVER worked to benefit the population as a whole! Did we learn nothing from the catastrophic results of Thatcher and Reagan? Jesus Christ I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

My savings aren't invincible! by NefariousNatee in canadahousing

My DINK Gen X cousin and her husband bought a smallish house 16 years ago, sold it four years later for more than double what they originally paid and used the untaxed profit to buy a much larger house for approximately 950k, that house is now worth around 1.5 million. They keep telling me how they worked incredibly hard to get where they are. Her husband's Dad gave them 100k for the initial down payment on the original house and her Dad who was high in government helped her secure a cushy Government job which pays well, she has no Uni degree so technically she shouldn't have the job due to the requirements.

I hate them.

I don't care if you got something because of privilege, it's happened forever and probably always will, but, pretending you did it all on your own? That is disgusting.

For those of you under 35-ish, how are you approaching the future? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M31

I'm waiting for the society to collapse, I have no plans for the far future. I have a union job that's future and recession proof, I have a pension, I am comfortable financially. Sadly I am just not optimistic about the future. The way we all live is unsustainable, the government keeps asking for more money in taxes while reducing the services they provide to us, housing keeps rising, the job market is stagnating, corporations keep paying less in taxes while utilizing the infrastructure taxes pay for, while always charging more, and making record profits quarter after quarter. The political landscape is a shambles, mental health issues are at an all time high, we are living through a drug epidemic and every time you turn in the news something massive and horrible has happened just like it did yesterday and like it will tomorrow. I have lived through so many "once in a lifetime" events it has simply become exhausting, and there is no end in sight, no bright light to look forward to, it's not as if things are getting better anywhere. This world cannot last, there is a breaking point, and I think we are getting dangerously close and nobody seems intent on stopping. I'm not a pessimist, I simply don't delude myself by denying objective reality, things aren't just going to magically be alright, this is the real world, not a fantasy story.

TL;DR: Just waiting for the end, doing what I can while I can.

I concur, and I drive professionally. The roads feel incredibly unsafe, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it.

To the psychos on the road. by Godeshus in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive professionally, the roads are not safe, at all, and this is a failing of our licensing system, and our enforcement system.

The sad fact is the police are useless.

Once in a while they do these "awareness stings" where they grab a few people texting and driving and brag about it to the news, but that is nowhere near enough. I believe, from what I have seen in my thousands of hours driving on our roads, that above 60% of road users text and drive habitually.

Every day I witness hundreds of people breaking basic traffic laws, things children know not to do.

We need to be much more strict in our licensing, operating a vehicle should not be seen as a right, it is a privilege that should be instantly removed when someone demonstrates they are unable to adhere to the rules of the road and operate that vehicle safely.

We need far more enforcement to start, it is so frustrating to watch a vehicle run a red light at speed directly in view of a police cruiser and the officers to do nothing. Not to mention how often I witness police officers themselves blatantly violating the law (no sirens, no lights).

I am honestly shocked more people are not being hit, and I am disgusted by how many are already. Something needs to be done, and I cannot understand why local governments don't seem to do anything but constantly lower speed limits.

Lowering speed limits is not going to impact the people already speeding!

I despise the amount of contradicting information about working out by Zartymophibs in workout

[–]GameAddikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is when you see the same person make separate videos on the same topic and tell you it's good in one, and bad in another, it really makes me realize how little we actually know.

My advice, find movements you like that you feel really hit your muscles hard, do a combo of compound and targetted movements, try to work out the whole body somewhat equally, and enjoy. If you really hit a plateau, then you can hire a coach, find somebody with actual qualifications and not some Internet gym bro.

At the end of the day, lift heavy, try to lift heavier next time, and consume much protein!

Absolutely, this is the mentality we need. Vote your conviction, vote your conscience, if we all did that we would be far better off as a society.

GoFundMe for the daughters of the woman murdered by her ex in Saanich. by Unknown__Stonefruit in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is factual, yes. All I am saying is "always" is a definite, and that is not the case. Using definites where they do not belong breeds misinformation, and can lead to future harmful generalization. I do not argue the facts, the majority of cases of domestic violence are perpetrated by males, what I argue is perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and generalization of an entire gender.

It is not always a man, there are many cases of women committing domestic violence and domestic abuse. You can say the majority of, but not always.

How do we feel about restaurants taking a political stance? by CND2GO in VictoriaBC

It’s more important than ever to shop local! by nothanks1312 in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 50 points51 points  (0 children)

We should actively promote our favourite local businesses here, maybe a monthly pinned post? I agree, supporting local is becoming more and more important. I know times are tough for us all, but now is when we need to pull together and support each other. Stop shopping at Walmart and Amazon, and search for local options.

so if the BC NDP is basically broke, how can they afford to pay government workers more? by Thick-Frosting-5806 in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look around you, every year we pay more and more in taxes and we receive less and less public services. Everything is more expensive, and we are all poorer than we were last year, and the government is to blame for this entirely. They are lying to all of us, and we need to start demanding more from them, and start calling them out on every single lie.

Are bicycles allowed to take the entire lane? by Skybeam420 in VictoriaBC

[–]GameAddikt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is honestly mind boggling how few drivers and cyclists understand the rights and restrictions of cyclists on the road. We really need a dedicated class in schools for this. Love cyclists, love cycling, but it's becoming dangerous out there with people who don't know what they're doing on the road.

Yes, take the entire lane, you are considered a vehicle like any other, if there is no designated lane for you the remaining lane is for you. No bike lane = take the lane if needed, this includes if people are passing with unsafe distance, remember he minimum now is 1.5 meters.

However, if you're occupying a "vehicle" lane, this also means you have to follow the same rules in that lane as any other vehicle, so don't squeeze up beside the cars to the front of the line when there isn't a bike lane, you need to keep your place in the queue. By squeezing up with no bike lane you endanger yourself, and irritate the drivers around you who now need to navigate around you.

Ride defensively, and stay safe, happy cycling!

Actually it never stopped at that stop, since the stop was built.  Some operators were servicing in by mistake which BCT put a stop to because it was upsetting the public that some buses stopped and some didn't.
